I think the last 3 are new models. Not too big at 41mm, and quite thin at 11.3mm for a diver, even thinner than the Land Tortoise. Solar and sapphire. The bezel looks like grooved aluminium. There's a crown guard. The fauxtina isn't OTT and I like the hands and inidices. Date window is small and integrated well with the dial. Overall design is nice and inoffensive.

Seiko auto divers—Samurai, Turtles, Sumos etc— are f'king huge in comparison. The only other comparible ones are the new mini Samurai which is still too expensive even on sale, the Land Tortoise, and the older SNExxxP which are share similar dials and hands, smaller and thinner at 38.5mm and 10.6mm repectively, and also solar and sapphire. Don't buy them at Shiels because they are much cheaper elsewhere.

I think I prefer the old SNEs because the case design smaller and more interesting, and has better cws. I have the rose gold, PADI and Night Vision ones. The new SNE cws are too safe and boring, but I'd buy one if they come out with something crazy looking.

All 3 SNE models are currently $100 more at SB and WD, and the 2 tortoises are $399 ($379) at WD

I keep telling myself I don't need any more seiko's….

    • I've been buying more Citizens lately. Get a Fugu for $329. Great specs for the price and some very nice cws.

    An excellent choice for diving

says Shiels. Yep. I can see that compass bezel being totally useful when you're submerged in the briny deeps.

says one of the 99.99% whose collection of divers will rarely if ever see water, never mind water immersion requiring breathing apparatus

Still, it's a good price if you like the style. The green lifts it a lot compared to the black versions (although the US-only SRPJ33 beats all of them)

    • Hehe yes. Most people aren't divers, and most divers aren't down there wearing a silver watch. White collar workers have created a weird cosplay world for themselves. "Oh that one's only 100m water resistance…. that won't be enough for when I have a cheeky cool-off in the resort pool between daquiris".

Even if I had a 200m watch I'd take it off to go diving. Everyone has a digital dive computer, why strap extra stuff onto yourself that you're not going to use… just because the instruction manual says it's possible? Ok I'll take my pet rock down there too, just because I can.

    • Same with the 24hr bezels on GMT divers. At least with Seiko, when they say it's 200m, you know it can go down to 200m.

The SRPJ33 is dope, reminds me of the Dawn Grey sammy and turtle.

    • Yep. I can see that compass bezel being totally useful when you're submerged in the briny deeps.

gotta be able to know which way you're going

  • I've been enjoying my Steeldive SD1970 and been eyeing off replacing it with a Seiko turtle but I really can't pick which one. Land Tortoise, Mini-Turtle, King Turtle, Turtle.

Was set on a King Turtle as I really like the waffle style dial however after reading a bunch of reviews the cyclops is a bit jarring now.

Here is my Save the Ocean King Turtle with an Uncle engineer bracelet. And no cyclops.

      • Yeah - had thought about the mods but then the costs are adding on.

Need to practice replacing the glass in one of my old orient divers as it's very scratched and beaten after 10 years of wear.

  • I think I prefer the old SNEs..

Yeah that black night vision I got fits perfectly so will keep, must be 38.7mm or something, solar, sapphire, daytime lume.

These new ones seem pretty expensive but would be ok if had another $150 off (haven't seen any vouchers yet just another 10% off).

  • Green Land Tortoise coming my way.
