Baccarat Damashiro Mizu 7-Piece Knife Set

Unsure if good knives, but the set looks good. I'm considering getting this, or one of the several other Baccarat knife sets on sale at eBay.

Baccarat is unmitigated junk. Don't waste your money.

Baccarat is the in house brand for House. Their knives look nice but they're pretty much equivalent to a cheap Wiltshire knife

  • We have the Damashiro kit. It's serviceable. Very sharp when new!

Unfortunately, these are not as good as the set that we "upgraded" from. Edge doesn't stay sharp long and the blades have chipped if you accidentally nick a bone, for example.

The price is good though, so too the single piece steel which makes them easy to clean. I'd say the serrated edge knife and the 2 larger knives are the best in the set.

If money were an object, I'd recommend the set. Otherwise, spend a bit more ($450ish and above) and get something better.

I would rather spend that amount on global 🤷🏻‍♂️

Better off buying Wusthof - buy it right, but it once.

I bought these years ago and they aren't Japanese steel, the folding pattern is printed on, the edge is sharp when new but soft, they're made in china junk with the implication it's Japanese steel on the packaging.

The set is worth about $100-150 so even discounted they are overpriced but if you can score them for $100 and you know your way around a stone they're worth buying.

Sorry for the neg OP, more just warning others not to buy these knives. Better money to be spent just purchasing 3 blades. In my personal experience you will never reach for more than 3 blades - a chef (gyuto), a smaller santoku (for veges) and a smaller paring knife and even then i don't use it too much. If you are just starting out a 3-piece Global, or spend a little more a go for a nice Shun set. Even a nice Wustof will get you going. These knives last a lifetime. Go into a shop and get a feel for blades, some people prefer the weight and heavier handle of a German blade as opposed to some Japanese blade. Now this is not necessarily the best price, but this is a good little set before you start looking a higher quality blades:

these are pieces of junk. Any one wants a decent but cheap knife should go to IKEA. Their BRILJERA range uses VG10 steel which is in par with top brands. And their price is very reasonable.

  • Go Zwilling. I used to think Wiltshire was a good knife and I never knew what knives were until I started using these. We've had them for 15 years now if not longer $150 for a set of five, was expensive in the day but willing to spend double now knowing what I know now.

These knives are really bad, if you want cheap knives I’d just go with their cheapest series.
    In terms of Japanese knives, I can recommend;
Kiwi knives, the ultimate budget set
Shogun knives which are pretty good for the price (Cheap VG-10), Tojiro DP3
    Global G-2, a workhorse
    Or Mac professional series knives
Typical brands are extremely overpriced now due to covid and Japanese knives hype

    • 100% with you

KIWI for cheap but still great knives.
      GLOBAL for great bang/buck knives.

    • FYI Kiwi isnt japanese.
      Its from thailand
      Dalstrong Shogun are from China

      • I was referring to Japanese styled knives,
For people testing out Japanese knife shapes, Kiwi has a Santoku, Nakiri, and Bunka for cheap
While the only knife offered in this set is a Santoku with a mystery made in China high carbon steel…
