I have this car and can highly recommend it as an entry to the RC hobby. This car is a basher, so it's best suited to off road driving. It's fast, brushless and really tough. Almost impossible to break compared to more fragile competitors like the WLToys 144001 (which I also have). The down side is that it doesn't handle as well on road. This car does it's best work on dirt, gravel etc. It goes well on short grass, but being a relatively small RC car, isn't the best in long grass. It's also great for kids since the throttle is adjustable and it's super tough.

Spare parts are readily available through Banggood, Ali, Ebay, Amazon etc, but I'm yet to replace anything on mine except the wheels. Note that HBX 16889a Pro parts are all compatible.

Good price for this car with 2 lipo batteries included. Note that this car is exactly the same as the HBX 16889a Pro but with a different body. That car is also on sale, but is slightly more expensive (US$108.99 ~ AU$159.15) and with only one lipo. https://au.banggood.com/HBX-16889A-Pro-1-or-16-2_4G-4WD-Brus…

The included charger is rubbish. Good charger recommendations here: https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/a-better-charger-for-…

Hit me up with questions.

Edit: Coupon code BGRCT10 gives an additional discount of about A$4. Thanks d4devil.

Man I haven't owned or operated an RC car since I was a kid. I can imagine them nowadays with lithium batteries to be in a whole other league of power.

    • +1

Yeah mate. These cars go hard. Stacks of fun.

      • I can second this! Bought it last Christmas and still in one piece. Is there an opportunity to load a bigger capacity battery? If not what would be your recommendation for extra batteries?

        • +1

The 1500mah 2S WLToys lipos that come with 144001 just fit and offer great run time (20-30 min), so I'd look for those. Anything bigger than that you have to get creative to fit it in. There is a 3D printable custom battery tray on Thingiverse that allows larger lipos, but it also raises the centre of gravity which isn't ideal since these things roll pretty easily already.

  • This is crazy fast and great value for a bit of fun.

I’ve got the 1/14 scale and it’s better for handling

  • I got this bad boy last time. Awesome fun. Think it can go around 35km/h on road and the oil filled suspension works amazing.

I just tried this promo BGRCT10 and was able to get it down a little further ~$5-$6.

    • Cheers. will update.

  • Any code similar to this past deal?

    • +2

That was unicorn stuff. We can only hope we see that deal again. That's how I got mine.

  • Wouldn't mind getting an RC car, any you guys can recommend to drive mainly on the road?

    • +1

Depends what you're aiming to do. But generally speaking, the WLToys 144010 (the brushless version of the 144001) is a good value choice that goes quick and handles well on road. If you wanted to spend a bit more you could look at a Losi Mini or a LC Racing EMB-1 (which the 1440xx cars are a copy of).

  • Awesome car my 4 year old loves it

  • great durable car esp for young ones who go 40km/h into gutters! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmmjGlP-21Y&ab_channel=MyRCF…

  • How do these compare with a Tamiya? Been looking to get an RC as a hobby car but it would be my first (and maybe last if I don't get into it) so don't want to spend too much money. This looks ideal.

    • +1

I don't have any experience with Tamiya but I do know that they're a very different beast. From my understanding Tamiya cars aren't particularly powerful (they can't handle brushless motors AFAIK), they're fairly fragile and they're more expensive. Possibly only 2wd too?

This car is a great intro to RC, IMO.

      • Thanks, this thing looks indestructible!

        • +1

          Yeah it's tough

  • Great car - pro tip: it can't outrun a greyhound

Thanks OP, been waiting for the next unicorn deal but this is close enough - bought

  • Does the ISDT Q6 Nano BattGo 200W 8A Pocket Battery Balance Charger need an adaptor to charge the batterys if not using the usb charger?

    • +1

I have the Q6 nano. You need a 240v adapter for it. I made one out of an old laptop charger.

      • Ok thanks, are the usb chargers really that bad?

        • Yes. They take hours to charge a lipo and they don't balance so they'll damage your lipos over time.

  • +1

Genuine question, if I want to buy two of these, one for each of my boys, would I have trouble with frequencies on the controllers?

    • +2

Nah mate. Just binge the first one before you turn the second one on and it'll be fine.

      • +1

        Binge = bind

  • Says code is expired

    • Yeah looks like it's finished
