If you're using Android or a handheld with Android like the Retroid Pocket 2 or Odin Lite I seriously recommend that you check out the AetherSX2 emulator. Surprisingly it can run a lot of PS2 titles really smoothly.
Very locked into apple ecosystem unfortunately :(
Time to buy a handheld. Casomme's recommendation of the Aya Neo is the best, but super expensive. This video shows the AetherSX2 emulator on some budget Android handhelds that you can pick up quite cheap.
Time to buy a handheld.
Haha I bought a rg351mp at start of year - sunk nearly 100 hours into Pokémon unbound (fire red rom hack) so definitely got my moneys worth out of it already.
@Jimothy Wongingtons: 351MP is my fav.
@electroarc: I can’t seem to find any reviews of this 353 vs 351, wouldn’t 353 be a better buy at similar money? I’m fairly sure I paid about $200 from you guys ages ago
Edit ooof 231 for case bundle
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Yes 351MP has the same screen size as 353P. But 353P adds android/touchscreen, faster processor, 1GB more RAM and stacked shoulder buttons.
It's a bigger plastic body compared to MP's metal body though, so really depends on the visual appeal to the individual.
Here's a super summarised comparison across the latest Anbernic devices; https://electroarcade.com.au/blogs/arcade/anbernic-handheld-…
Most PS2 games run terribly on the Retroid Pocket 2+.
Everything from Dreamcast and older run quite well.Did you use the AetherSX2 emulator? It runs well by the looks.
@Clear: Yes, unfortunately the frame rate of the PS2 games I tested were all over the place.
However overall for the price, I'd highly recommend.@pitoui: Uses a UNISOC T310 I see and that's pretty weak so it makes sense. I'll have to try it on something more powerful. Powkiddy do an Android handheld with the T618.
New handhelds can already emulate ps2.
I would recommend something with a 6600u or 6800u like the aya neo 2022 models coming soon. Also the intel model $269 USD:
https://youtu.be/Tg9WYqrUxA8WIll be interesting to see what actually makes it to market and the final price point by the close of this year and early next, but definitely an exciting time for tech.
The steam deck has changed the market. The only good handhelds were over a grand before it arrived.
@Casomme: True will bring the competition prices down, but sadly no steam deck in Oz yet. Have read they will lose $$ on device sales but make their money via software licensing/sales thereafter.
Smooth PS2 emulation on an affordable handheld is probably another 2 chipsets away I think.
The ceiling is PS1, N64, Dreamcast. This should run them better with the newer chipset and more RAM but there will be titles that will be too demanding even with tweaking and changing emulators. Android will run N64 better and hoping improvements with aethersx2 emulator brings us much closer to PS2.Never on this class of CPU. PS2 emulation is already fairly performant on flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors, as seen here (12min). GameCube and possibly Wii emulation can work well on the Odin Lite. Those are running A78 cores; GC seems perform well down to A76 cores.
If you're looking for an X86 based handheld like an AMD 5600U powered unit, this isn't an issue.
Yeah as you mentioned Odin lite is a good start and a smartphone with Snapdragon processor is by far the cheapest option with a good controller. Price/availability must be keeping it out of handhelds.
Have been considering bringing in the ONEXPLAYER Mini 5800U but at the resell price around 2k not sure if enough demand is there. Interesting to see how the AYANEO Next goes selling locally for more than the ONEXPLAYER…
The Anbernic win600 is out next month and could be an affordable step closer - https://youtu.be/xyLpsmeorZE
Looks nice, but screen is too small imho
Screen size is a nice step up from the 351P/M but yes a tad bigger screen would have nailed it.
Same price but FREE SHIPPING direct from the manufacturer: https://anbernic.com/products/anbernic-rg353p
This deal seems to be an extra ~$14 for shipping.
Yes around $10 more, but very likely you'll get it faster from us than from China and with a local warranty.
Agreed and yeah local warranty less risk of shipping damage and you deal in same county better overall
Yeah, I'm not a fan of having these little packages with no padding smashed around for up to 30 days as they make their way via international budget post.
Do you already have these in stock and are just holding on to them for the release date?
Im waiting till I can play Wii games and switch games smoothly (non android OS) with the rate of handhelds a reckon about 3-5 more years and it may exist
+ OLED/IPS screen
+ good hand fit comfortably button set
+ 2gb ram (Linux build) /6gb (android )
+ dock mode up to 1440p (1080p standard 1:1 of original consoles to scaleMiss playing the Wii but I want the on the go experience without having a switch as I like the classic Wii games better, but also the easy pull out and stat playing experence, with all the roms at my fingertips
While not perfect, for home use, you could always stream from your PC to a lower spec handheld.
Or spend the $1,500 on a killer windows-based handheld.I did look at that but thair is a little delay on it and I can't stream away from home whenever I want, at that point I may as well play my PC than stream.
Good news is this is a hot space right now with a fair few doing it over the 1k mark, so only a matter of time..
Have had confirmation Win600 isnt too far away - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfWv14WL-sU
One of their better reviews.
Here's a quick size and processor comparison.

I won't be purchasing this model but it's good to see some Australian stores popping up with these Android/Linux emulation handhelds. Are you thinking about expanding to some of the other brands and models in this market?
We do Pandora and working on android TV unit. Looking at a few but was super keen on some of the leading handhelds but are over 1k. Which ones have you been following?
I just follow the scene generally.
I have too many handhelds, including a RG351V, GPD Win Max and even an Ayn Odin Lite ordered on the IGG campaign. I'm a sucker for collecting these things though so no doubt I'll jump in and get something in future!
Hanging for Ayn to open up retail so we can sell their products. What's your fav console?
Custom Firmware JELOS is out on the 353P bringing enhancements already
