If only it has Binge and Kayo apps without the hassle of side-loading

    • +1

Side loading isn't that hard with Aptiode TV.

    • +1

I got Binge working on mine with a bit of mucking around, but it's crazy that Binge still isn't officially supported.

    • If this is hard, I can’t recommend living. I guarantee you’ll die of it.

Can't beat the last expired deal.

  • Are the current remotes meant to have an led light or something in the top right corner?
Images online seem to suggest they do however the 4K Max I purchased doesn’t have anything in that corner of the remote.

    • +1

      No led on mine.

      • Cheers.

        • +3

I gave you a bum steer.

I just hit the Alexa button and a blue flashing LED appeared under the plastic in the top right.

          Well I'll be ….

          • @MS Paint: Thanks for the update. I just tried it and there it is. I’ve never pushed that button before.

            • @mapax: Same and I can't see myself ever pushing it again.

  • Only dealbreaker for me with Fire sticks is no cast support

    • Yes, but AllCast works fairly well as a compromise.

      • does that allow me for example to cast youtube to the firestick? Thats my primary use case.

        • +3

Just use the YouTube app directly?

        • You don't need AnyCast, the Fire Stick does cast to YouTube natively, but it is a bit problematic. See my other comment.

          • @bio: FireStick can't do cast only mirroring not the same.

            • @superforever: YouTube app will automatically detect your Fire TV and cast the selected video. It has nothing to do with screen mirroring.

              • @bio: Thanks, didn't know it can do cast, just tested also work with Netflix app and PC chrome browser but not Prime video

                • @superforever: Weird, it worked for me with Prime as well, but it was so inconsistent that I had to return the device.

                  • @bio: It didn't show up my firestick only google chromecast TV

                    • @superforever: That was my problem too, it's basically a hit-and-miss. ChromeCast on the other hand is fairly stable.

                      • +1

@bio: This time suddenly appear, for $39 I will keep it.

    • I’m using AirScreen on my Firestick which works well for both casting and airplay.

$79 with code SALE10 @ Mydeal + 20% cashback from Shopback, take $20 off with new Latitude Pay customer.

      • Thanks, got the chromecast with google tv for $59!

  • Nice!

  • It’s well worth the price. I use it for streaming device + smart features for dumb tv. Very responsive almost comparable to apple tv or Nvidia shield tv.

FYI I bought this from the previous deal and returned it to Amazon and bought a Google TV with ChromeCast from JB Hi-Fi instead.

It kept disappearing from the network and neither the remote control app nor YouTube/NetFlix/Prime casting worked. It only "woke up" after I launch an app using the (physical) remote, which was annoying. I don't know if the device I got was a lemon but that was my experience. Otherwise it's a great device (Google one is great too).

I liked Google TV a bit more since you can cast anything via ChromeCast and Play Store is better (Kodi can be installed from the store instead of sideloaded).

    • +1

I got same, previously had an old firestick then went raspberry pi then foxtel now box, so far the chromecast is miles better, impressed with speed of response

    • +1

      Had same issue.

    • I can open the YouTube app on my phone and it will then wake the Fire TV which turns my TV on, the app on my phone will then show the video I was part way through watching on the Fire TV.

  • I never can side load Google Photos it sucks.

  • I’ll share my $0.02, if that helps someone.

Purchased from JB at the last offer $59, wish if I purchased from Amazon so I could easily return.

I have plugged this directly to BenQ W2700 HDMI 2 port. When the projector wakes up it doesn’t show the fire stick, says no input. Need to physically disconnect the power to fire stick and reconnect to get the input to the projector. It is a real bum, climbing on chairs to plug power cable.

Worst case is the wifi. When the speed test done it shows over 100Mbps, but takes ages to load a movie (with any app) and often says poor speed.

I’ve got Chromecast with Google TV, which doesn’t have any wifi or speed issues.

    • If you haven’t had it for an excessive period of time take it back to JB and tell them it’s faulty.

      • Yeah, should give a try.

    • You can always go back to the manufacturer for warranty. Have you spoke to Amazon about your problem? Maybe they will send you a replacement unit?

    • May need a new router.

  • I’m having similar issues, using a wifi analyser app on the stick itself it shows great speeds, but Plex just continuously buffers and the bandwidth shown in Plex is terrible. I don’t recall having this issue on another firestick I have. In comparison I have no wifi / bandwidth issues with my Nvidia shield. Is it a dodgy unit, or a universal problem all Firesticks?

    • Sounds like a dodgy unit, I got the Firestick max in the recent $59 deal and have no issues with Plex content or with streaming 4k from various providers.

But my plex server pc is cabled to my wifi 6 router which is about 2 metres from the Firestick. So maybe that combination is just avoiding the issues you are having.

  • So any benefit to this vs a googletv? I guess if you are heavily tied into the prime eco system maybe?

    • Google TV definitely has the better UI & Chromecast support. Fire TV has a way better remote, wi-fi 6 support, and a more powerful processor = a bit snappier.

  • $67 at Target and should be able to combine with $10 off by signing up to newsletter.
