depends on where you use it though, I have issues with Telstra at some locations which Vodafone network works like a champ. also, it’s FREE with this one :)

      Am I browsing OzBargain.com.au or ProductReview.com.au?

    • +1

Except their data speeds in congested areas.

They literally own more of the spectrum thanks to acquiring 3mobile back in the day.

Im using this to replace my parents 25mbps NBN plan; much more reliable.

    • It's currently saving my business with our nbn down for weeks.

  • -2

Only issue is the list basically only covers expensive or outdated phones. For a clear reason to avoid being used as hotspots, mid-ranges are not in their approved devices list.

    • To be fair; they cant train their service team on every midrange phone.

Id suggest calling the manufacturer, or supergeek or such if you need help setting up a hotspot.

      • You're avoiding the topic: they only included the old devices before 2018 and entry phones with almost all the flagships.
Thats weird but effective to avoid being used as hotspots. But, that also reduces the value of such plans.

        • +3

I think your confusing 'not supported' with 'wont work'. Just use whatever device you have, and dont ask for support.

If you need support, try google instead of felix.

None of my devices are "supported", but work fine.

Even my hacked telstra technicolor failover modem.

    • Not every device supports eSIM hardware wise.

Used this for a few months while I moved house, initially had the sim in an iPhone 6S, worked well in hotspot mode and then moved it to a Vodafone 4G dongle. Again, worked quite well, was probably in a good area though because not everyone has the same experience.

Whilst you’re not meant to put it into a dongle and use it for home internet, they didn’t really notice I guess.

The price is right, you do you.

    • Whilst you’re not meant to put it into a dongle and use it for home internet, they didn’t really notice I guess.

Its a marketing thing voda resellers arent allowed to advertise, is all. While the overview tool does let them see what device connected, there's no active monitoring/banning (or, wasnt, very recently).

      • -3

Actually they do monitor the devices you use. But that mostly happens if you used over 50gb per month as far as I've seen in the forum.
That makes the 3-month half price discount not competitive as this one month free one even being cheaper over long term…

        • It was a few months ago but I was using around 150gb/month, as always though, may not be the same now.

          • +4

@nuts: haven't done anything less than 250GB/month in a portable modem with a peak of about 400GB never had an issue over the past 7+ months

            • @callmechicky: When I tried using the Sim in "Vodafone Pocket WiFi® 3 4G" the speeds dropped to a disastrous 3mbps.

Can you share some details regarding the:

              • speed using google speed test
              • modem model number
              • battery capacity for modem in hours if applicable
    • hmm where did you get the dongle

      • fb marketplace or gumtree for around $30-40. Has to be a vodafone one though because the telstra ones are locked and trying to unlock them is such a waste of time, if it is even possible.

    • I've been using Felix for quite some time in a 4G enabled mobile as a hotspot. Great speed both uplink and downlink of 20mbps.

However, when I tried using the Sim in "Vodafone Pocket WiFi® 3 4G" the speeds dropped to a disastrous 3mbps.

Can you share some details regarding the:

      • speed using google speed test
      • modem model number
      • battery capacity for modem in hours if applicable
      • Hi there,

It's been over a year since I was using this with Felix, I decided to go with a more expensive internet service provider and from what I remember reading its very dependant on your Vodafone service coverage, it does seem strange to me that you were getting such great speeds hotspotting the phone and now don't get that with the dongle.

        • I can't give you a speed test because I don't use Felix anymore but I was getting pretty good speeds, definitely more than 3mbps
        • I pulled my dongle out of storage, it is a Vodafone PocketWifi2
        • No idea about battery capacity, I kept it plugged into the power almost all the time.

As I said, its been a while since I used Felix for my internet solution so things might have changed, they might have cracked down on the dongle use etc, there was a very big thread on whirlpool about it that's worth reading.

        Goodluck to you.

        • I've been using hotspot at home with a dedicated mobile.

Definitely great speed of close to 20 mbps up/dn

I suspect using a dedicated modem allows them to throttle the speeds knowing you are not on mobile.

I have been with Felix for 10 months and have been very happy with this service. I have always used hotspot through a mobile phone and have never had any issues. Im considering moving my main mobile phone to Felix also.

  • +1

For those needing 100GB/200GB data per month, belong now has $35/100GB data only or $45/200GB data+voice plans. They don't limit hotspot I believe.

  • Been using this plan for a few months now, hotspot works well 99% of the time, sometimes the devices connected will just have no internet until you wait a minute or so or until you turn the hotspot off and on again. This happens so rarely, it's basically a non-issue. Been using it with my POCO X3 Pro, basically no problems at all. Overall pretty happy with it.

  • Do you have to port in to get this? Not that I could be bothered, but is it theoretically possible to get a new number each month and have this plan for free? Assuming theres constantly a 1 month free code.

    • I didn't port, got a new number.

    • +1

From memory you pay the first $35 up-front then you get a $35 credit (making it "free") except you would need to stay the second-month to use the $35 credit.

Therefore this method you speak of wouldn't work as a 'free' method.

      • Thats refer a friend, which is completely different from using the $35 off code.

    • You can, it is both theoretically and practically possible. I saved hundreds of dollars.
P.S. The used 10% off gift card from Coles (with $1 remaining) may help you.

      • The Mastercard Coles gift card didn't work with Felix, but a virtual Revolut card did the job.

  • It is actually free forever with iPhone, Samsung and Pixels. I don’t think I need to tell you how and why (you are smart guys). Free service is always OK regardless of the service and signal. But I won’t pay $35/mo for it.

    • How? Can you DM me pls?

    • I want to know too, how do you get it free with iPhone, Samsung and Pixels?

    • Hi GiftCardHunter, could you please DM me about how to make this free? Please! Does anyone know how a new customer is defined by Felix? If I port in and out, will it detect me and not allow me to use the first month free promo?

      • also interested, did you get the info?

      • nice trick but if you use the same email you will fail but little know fact is [email protected] is = [email protected] in that they all end up in your email box but are treated as unique (you need to keep track & password/s for felix of this and you can use filtering to seperate into folders in gmail)

but the best way is to signup with the code and get others to use yours. I help one oldie a port over a month to save money and I get that month then free ~ its easy!

    • Dm?

    • Also interested to know.

  • There's also code FLX1 which I came across in an app notification. "Expires 30/11/22"

  • +1

Spotted code GREEN, active until 31/12.

  • Can I register to port to felix esim on the same day that I'm going overseas and then get the roaming pack? will it be instant if I switch to esim ( from boost )

  • I was on Felix with a SIM received a while ago. The nature of the Felix account setup is that it is not possible to stop the second month charge on your card, so you must port out before the end of the month to avoid it. I ported out to a different service and then was able to re-use the same email address for a subsequent activation.
You must login into Felix app with an email to activate the service. During activation process, you need to scan the bar code of the SIM that you want to activate.

    • +1

Can't we just activate the first month for free, and then cancel immediately (or after a few days)? Their website says that once we cancel, we will still be able to use felix subscription till the end of the 'current billing cycle'.

      • Hmmm. Yes. I wasn't aware how to do this. Help Bot says: To Cancel, follow these steps in the Felix App
Settings > Phone and service settings > Cancel my service > Yes, cancel my service

Pausing is also possible, although this only happens at the end of the billing cycle.
Settings > Phone and service settings > Pause my subscription > Pause my subscription

International roaming add on packs are still valid while the subscription is paused.

You can only replace a payment method with another payment method. I used a digital card with daily changing CVC to activate with, so I won't need to remember to port out this time.

        • which provider is it if you mind sharing, please? Tried Revolut doesn't accept :(

  • Anybody put in modem, use it as like broadband before?Any problem?

    • See my comments from previous threads - nil issue using it in a dongle at home as a defacto wifi

  • Been using for 2 weeks now.Speed varying a lot. Most of the time i only get download around 10 and upload 8. Somtime i only got 3 for download and upload

  • Looks worth a try
