  • +2

People are signing up for an AMEX CC to save $100 on an XSX?
Now that's some next level shit.

    • +6

      Well $100 is $100.

    • +3

why? first year is free. buy and then discard

      • Taking a hit on my credit score would be the first thing that comes to mind.

        • +2

credit score won't impact much it will rise back in a short time

          • @RichardF89: Might affect home loan applications if the number of cards you have add up

            • +4

@WhiteEvo6: yeah but you can cancel all your credit card before you apply home loan

              • +4

@RichardF89: Firstly, I doubt “home loan applications” are as common as buying groceries.

Secondly, the bank isn’t going to simply bat you away just for your “credit score”. They will give you options on reducing your credit risk - such as closing some of your credit cards or reducing their limits.

        • +2

not much of a hit if u keep a couple of cards don't go for every card deal

        • +6

there are many other offers, microsft just happens to be one this month?

people do not sign up just for this.

        • +2

          This isn't America

        • +3

I can’t believe in this day and age, this myth is still prevalent.

It does take a hit - but a minuscule hit. Not enough to even lose sleep over.

Tons of credit card churners on OZB with very good or excellent credit scores even after churning through half a dozen credit cards a year.

          • -6

            @proudwanderer: I'm a finance and mortgage broker.
            It's not a myth.
But, whatever it takes to save $100, right? LOL.

            • +2

@Maths Debater: Well I have a good friend working in the credit card department of a big 4 bank.

So I have it on good authority that credit card churning is a “variable hit” on the credit score but not a big hit.

Holding many credit cards active at the same time will be a bigger hit and not paying the statement on time is an even bigger hit.

Also, credit score is only one factor in assessing someone’s risk profile when it comes to lending, amongst others.

The “myth” I am talking about is the fear mongering that simply getting a credit card prevents you from being able to take a loan.

I would argue that having multiple credit cards and always paying them in full and on time is a “positive” towards one’s credit/risk profile and not a “negative”

              • +2

@proudwanderer: This is me, always paid on time… Multiple cards one a platinum so a higher minimum credit.. Never had an issue with home loans, car loans, crap tonne of refinancing over the years… I always pay them on time and in full.. And gain about 300-400 a year in vouchers from points.. Not including these types of cash backs or credits.

        • Honestly these comments crying bout credit stores should be marked as spam at this point with the amount of times they have been debunked on here. Have family and friends that work in banks. No one cares as long as you make your payments on time with bnpl accounts or reduce the amount of cards you have before applying for a loan. Most people plan on using these temporarily just for the deal as you stated and will cancel later on. Stop spreading misinformation and brainlessly parroting this silly myth.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: What are you on about?
You just confirmed it's not a myth by stating how you can fix your credit score.
I already know this, but thanks?

            • -1

@Maths Debater: Oh, you realised you were wrong and are trying to backtrack to save face now. Good to know. Keep your out of date financial advice to yourself and your unfortunate clientele.

              • -1

@[Deactivated]: Lol nah mate, you're the one who got wrecked. You have no idea about the financial system.

                • -1

                  @Maths Debater:

I'm a finance and mortgage broker.

The only people getting 'wrecked' are the ones gullible enough to pay for your services, lol.

                  • -1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, like the people you claim to know who work in banks lol. Move along.

                    • -1

                      @Maths Debater:

                      Move along

Maybe collect your thoughts first so you can follow your own advice instead of coming back to this thread to edit the same comment multiple times. Obsessed much?

      • +1

        There's no annual fee Amex.

    • +4

Most of these people already have a card

American express always does these kinds of offers, honestly it's one of the best cards to have and it's one of the most difficult to flip because for 18 months you miss out on all these kinds of offers

      • +1

        This!

Already had the card, been wanting to cancel it for the past two months, but haven't spent the $450 travel credit yet and then this offer came.

        • Not to mention smart phone screen insurance - I missed my cancelling opportunity this year and probably won't end up cancelling

          • @badonde: if it's the same card as mine. Might as well make use of the travel credit

    • I got points for $1200 too.

  • is that any amex?

  • +1

What's with the Twitter bots not tweeting this?

  • +2

Got this offer … but don’t need a new Xbox … gah, hurts me a little to not take advantage of $100 cashback haha

    • +1

Got this offer … but don’t even need a Xbox … bought one

    • +5

      Me too!

Only reason hubby is getting this is cos I didn't want to 'waste' the amex offer. Prefer to waste $650 instead.

      • +2

        peak consumerism kek

      • I'll buy it for $650 then it's win-win-win?

Lol. /s. Your hubby would be pissed ;)

    • -1

Buy and resell ? Scalpers were going nuts at one point

      • They’re still going for $950+ Inc post on eBay by the look of it. Would have thought that had calmed down.

  • Still think I had a bargain a year ago, bought X from Ms for 573 using gift card.

    • How can you get this bargain mate?

      • +5

There was a JB promo 10% off sitewide, but they forgot to put Xbox gift card into the exclusive list. Basically I used 15% off JB gift card to buy 10% off Xbox gc. Make it 100x0.9x0.85=76.5.
When it was in-stock, just buy it at 23.5% off.

        • -1

Thanks for sharing the info. Is this trick still working?

        • +1

This is a mind-twistingly curious discount stacking hack; could there be a third level, I wonder…

  • Used $499 amex because added $250 gc. What's $1 to buy on the store with amex to get the minimum $500 spend?

  • Purchased Swap Entertainment Card back in April:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/695152

Redeemed to MS Store to basically get 20% off. $599.2 delivered is not bad.

  • +1

    Don't forget 5.5% cashreward

    • +1

This isn't a Movie or a TV Show.

    • +2

      *1.5 percent

  • +1

Just checked. Not sure if the amex offer is still available. I have a Sony offer but no Microsoft offer…

    • +3

I just called AMEX and they were brilliant. I didn't have the offer on my card and they stated the spend $500 get $100 back is capped but spend $750 get $150 back still available. They added it to my card and I've just checked the app which has updated it as valid and offer claimed.

      • Awesome

      • Bad luck for me. Following your advice I have called them as well. Was told that they could do nothing to help me with either offer.

  • +2

OMG, it is still there!!! after 2 hrs!!!

    • In general, seems to last longer from Microsoft compared to Amazon, Big W, Target, etc.

Maybe less people shop with them, and also maybe being Microsoft, they have more stock.

Another reason is maybe less people buying in general - scalpers may have moved on to other things too. The console was released 1.5 yrs ago afterall

  • +1

Sweet. My nephews birthday is in a few weeks and his mother was saying he couldn't have one because it was sold out everywhere and she isn't willing to put much effort into buying it.

I sent her the link and she bought it. Nephew owes me.

  • Can Microsoft make more controllers, out of stock in most places. Seriously

  • Finally!

But, I'm very happy with the series s, so I'll pass on this deal. Would have jumped on it for sure though, so easy to get ms money at a discount

  • I just got one, so still available

  • +1

wow still available after 4 hours

  • Are the Amex offer random? I have about 10 offers on my ultimate card but no MS offer?

    • +1

Limited to the first 9500 cards that saved it

  • How much time does it take to get shop back gift card? Should I risk waiting or pull trigger with Amex offer and cashback only?

    • +1

Took about 90 seconds for me.

But others have said up to hours in previous deal.

I ordered a small gift card amount a few weeks back in preparation for this as I figured maybe the first purchase needs more verification?

      • +1

Thanks. I got it within few mins as well. Pulled the trigger, 524 with Amex and 225 with GC. Thanks

  • It temporarily comes in stock but the payment is failing

  • Can someone point me to this Amex card thanks

    • It’s not any particular card. The rewards/cash back offers appear from many. Mine is on an AMEX Essentials card, for example.

  • +1

    Mines coming tomorrow.

  • Anyone else find that the Amex Credit hasnt appeared on their account yet…? By memory, its usually pops up straight away!

    • No, sometimes could take couple weeks.

    • The credit appeared for me 3 days ago

  • -5

Microsoft not able to sell enough Xboxes this early in it's lifecycle, now trying to push offers through amex but still no one except fan boys want it. Sad.

  • Got this offer on my Amex, dont know if I need the xbox however

  • I don't think i'm going to use it, but if anyone wants I have the Amex offer and I can buy for you for $650 (not going to bother using the gift cards and everything)

  • It’s a pain not being able to use my Amex offer, but I don’t see how I will have much use for the new Xbox given my Switch is largely collecting dust, and I still haven’t got around to play any game in my PC game libraries yet. Still frustrating though!

Anyone in the same situation and managed to talk yourself into buying it anyway?
