  • Looks nice, soldered ram it seems tho.

    • Yes, from the older posts here it seems like RAM can't be upgraded

  • Great battery on these - 10+hrs. Shame about the keyboard impression being left on the screen when you open the lid.

Only charges via barrel and not USB C PD either :(

1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)

      • +1

Is that to charge the laptop or other plugged in devices?

        • Both

      • -2

Not necessarily charges the laptop otherwise why are they including a 65W barrel port?

Hardware Canucks did a video on the exact same model here: https://youtu.be/6K6WAuo9kPg

        • You're wrong

          • -3

@[Deactivated]: Am I now? It's the same laptop they reviewed in the video at the 3:20 mark.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad laptop that has a thick power brick with a USB-C end that charges at 65W. I have no barrel port for charging.

If I'm so wrong, tell me why would they include a barrel port for charging? Only low end laptops include a barrel port if they're not charging via USB-C.

            • @adrianhughes1998: I have no idea why they included barrel port but this laptop is happy to accept charge over USB-C. I have the laptop and can confirm it. I've tried HP dock and also standalone 65W charger.

Maybe time to full charge is different, can't comment on that.

I have one, same model, can charge via Dell USB C 65W charger

cant upgrade is the killer, ant to future proof my next laptop!

  • thinking of buying the same. 2 things i am not sure 1. wifi dropout issue 2. keyboard imprint on screen noticed by some users

  • I can't see anything wrong with this laptop for the price.
Maybe the lack of RAM upgradability and the colour, but I'm really nitpicking now.
Put a thin foam sheet between the keys and the screen - it may ship with one.
400 nits is surely enough for anyone. Wifi 6, BT 5.2. good, good.
Would have bought this for offspring if I had not bought the Lenovo on Boxing Day from Bing Lee.

There's a silver color available for the same price and same specs.

      8 GB of RAM isn't ideal but it's 2560 x 1600 which I'd take over Full HD.

Add to nitpicks - no backlit keyboard. This may be a bummer to someone.

      • +3

Wrong - it has a backlit keyboard

      • +1

        I stand corrected. Thanks.

      • Just got mine from HN can confirm backlit keyboard

    • +1

On the reviews they mention the screen will have an imprint of the keyboard. Huge red flag, I didn't buy it from the last deal because of this very reason

  • This or LG Gram? No deal on the later yet though =/

For anyone considering this - ordered this yesterday, got it today - very happy with it. Backlit keys are great, mag alloy casing is rigid and feels high quality, PD via USB works fine, no issues with WiFi and absolutely no sign of key imprints on the screen (note I got the silver one not the white ceramic one). The best thing about the unit besides its sub kg weight is its screen - 100% sRGB, not HDR but the the colours absolutely pop (believe it might have Dolby vision support but not certain) and the brightness is crazy high - probably closer to 500nits, also discovered that it is a variable refresh panel (nothing dramatic, just between 40 and 60 hertz). The 5600U cpu is plenty fast. Definitely great value for the money even with a non upgradeable 8GB ram. Best of all the battery virtually lasts for ever.

    • Can it be charged by any regular usb c charger?

      • Sort of, I assume there is a minimum power requirement and charging times might be longer with lower power USB C chargers but my generic 30W charger works fine.

I've got mine yesterday, can also shout out HP for their quick delivery.

Backlit keyboard has two brightness levels and off, no WiFi dropout issues over 2-3 hours of sporadic use.

Didn't notice the imprints on the screen. I assume it may occur over time when the laptop is carried around a lot.

CPU is just fine for my basic tasks, 8 GB is ok too.

The screen is just great, bright vivid and hi-res. I also had it set to render on two more monitors with no issues (one via HDMI another one via USB-C to HDMI hub)

PD via usb works fine for me too.

is this the same @ HN $998 + $300 GC

        • +2

          Yes, same laptop

        • Wow - seriously super deal at $698

          • @r0nmac: now the mission to try & get HN to price match HP

            • @RogueWolf: I tried price-matching instore and online they just won't do it, ended up paying $940 for mine with company gift card and got the $300 HN gift card, bloody good deal I'd say
