Free Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II for Citizens of Australia by Request to Your Federal MP

23328

Considering it's Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee this year it's an opportune time to remind everyone that all citizens* of Australia are entitled to a free portrait of the ruling Monarch from their local federal government member. If you're not sure who that is you can go to the Parliament's web site and search by your postcode. Contact them by email, phone, or drop in to ask how to get yours.

Portraits can usually be collected in person from either your nearest senator or MP's office. I'm not sure if they'll post one to you if you're not nearby, but if you ask nicely you never know your luck. If memory serves me correctly they're roughly A2 size and printed on reasonable quality photo paper, ready for framing.

*I'm not able to find anything on the Australian government web sites that it's restricted to only citizens, but previous articles on the Internet suggest this is the case.

To paraphrase Malcolm Turnbull, even if you're not a Royalist you can at least be an Elizibethean.

What do I do with a portrait of the Queen? Frame it and put it on my wall? It would make interesting gift wrapping paper.

    • +10

One of my old directors have one (not sure if it is the same as these) professionally framed and it had pride of place over his main couch in his living area. So why not? If nothing else, it would create a talking point.

What a waste of money. They should feed the homeless instead

        • +122

I dunno if the homeless want to eat photos of Her Majesty either.

        • +5

          "They…" ????

          • +10

@GG57: I think he is referring to the transgender community

        • +12

what do YOU do to feed the homeless?

          absolutely nothing.

          • +2

@quog: That's not true. I have seen WallybR partition other members of the community about the value of spending money on feeding the homeless instead of supplying people with Queen portraits. Grass roots campaigns have to start somewhere.

          • +1

@quog: I actually give between $150-$300 worth of fresh food to the homeless shelters everyday…

          • @quog: Well nobody takes my portrait so… Removes my portrait from the running really…

        • +8

I hate communists who tell people what they should and should not do with their own money!

          • +5

@tm001: These days? Less against socialism, more against blatant virtue signaling. But is internet, and we're on a bargain site, so.. karma capitalism ho!

          • +2

@tm001: You mean like the government spending taxpayer money to produce a portrait of the Queen?

        • +1

Such negativity! Just smear one with a really thin layer of chocolate across it and hand it to a homeless person. They get a portrait of the queen for their sleeping bag, they get exercise from all the exertion required to scratch the chocolate off, and the chocolate itself is a meal. This basically is like a world vision sponsorship for homeless people without the ongoing effort.

        • And in France……………..Portrait de Foie Gras!

@quikstix: What does that have to do with the fact that the media and politicians stopped pumping the virus narrative?

                          • @Ghos7: Why do you think they stopped? I'll give you time to collect your talking points from your handlers.

                            • @smartazz104: why don't you answer my question instead of posting rarted non sequiturs?

The comments in this thread say otherwise…

            • @Nom: There are sides. One side wants the ped son of the queen and the rest of Epstein's client list to be brought to justice and you're siding with the other side.

Stencil the word "THEIF" on it in white paint, chuck it in a $15 K-mart frame and sell it on marketplace or gumtree for $100 as modern art, netting you a profit which you can use for indulgent, hedonistic purchases.

      • +2

Did you intentionally mis-spell that? Is that the artistic nature of it?

    • Send it to John Howard.

Since 6 February 1952: Her Majesty The Queen

      • +3

Just bizarre, going by critical thinking of the meaning of the word, how is she majestic? She has 4 limbs, a torso, a head with 2 eyes just like anyone else.

        • +4

She's majestic in that she controls Australia.

        • +5

going by critical thinking of the meaning of the word

This is going to be fun…

          how is she majestic?

Well if you want to apply some thinking, first start with the definition of the actual word in question; Majesty (not 'majestic' as you seem to have been confused by with your question).
'Majesty' is a title bestowed to the highest ranking monarch. The Queen is that therefore she has that title. Simple when you think about it.

      • +1

        You forgot:
The ONLY rightful Queen of Australia (or what is left of it)
oh forgot: also formal head of the Anglican Church

      • +2

Self proclaimed titles, call it whatever the —— they like.

        • have you found her surname? Hint: Her dad might not been a dentist but some dentist son has just about taken over her influence.

      Waste of Australia’s money

      • +5

        https://www.ictsd.org/does-australia-pay-taxes-to-the-royal-…

Aside from royal visits, Australia does not contribute to the upkeep of the Queen, and when its taxpayers are asked to help pay for the Governor-General’s and her rep, those expenses would be the same for a President as well

        • Why would you even need a president
