Penrite 10W-40 6L Full Synthetic $35.99 (Was $75.99) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Supercheap Auto

810

Penrite Full Synthetic 10W-40 is a premium non–friction modified 10W-40 engine oil featuring Penrite's Full Zinc Technology. Penrite’s Full Zinc additive package creates a sacrificial layer on critical engine components to protect them from metal to metal contact and cold start wear. With a combination of a low shear rate viscosity modifier this oil provides additional protection against wear, corrosion, oil oxidation, piston deposits and sludge formation under higher ambient temperatures and severe operating conditions.

Suitable for use in modern multi-cam and multi-valve petrol, LPG, E10, and diesel vehicles without diesel particulate filters (DPF). Can also be used in four stroke motorcycles with wet clutch assemblies and E85 fuelled vehicles providing more frequent oil drain intervals are adhered to.

    Thanks OP. got one

  • Can i mix this with nulon full synthetic 5w30?

    • +2

      can you , yes.
      should you , not recommended.
It will be messing up the viscosity.

      • +17

        Whats wrong with 7.5w35?

        • I prefer 8.3w37.51 myself, I really notice the extra smoothness in the valves compared to 7.5w35.

    • never mix, full drain and fill

      • How about mixing 50/50 with Penrite 5W-40?

    • You can mix with whatever you like, as long each oil is suitable for the car

    Thanks! Got 2

Whoa, leave some for the rest of us!

  • not on ebay ? for more discount ?

  • Can someone please explain the difference between this and HPR10?

I usually put HPR10 in my swift (probably overkill I know)

    • Here's a description I found in a marketing PDF:

Penrite HPR premium quality engine oils are a
performance range of engine lubricants designed
for Australian conditions. The Penrite HPR range
has been engineered with a unique DOUBLE
LAYER of engine protection with FULL ZINC
and Penrite’s advanced EXTRA TEN technology.

It's basically the Penrite equivalent of Castrol's 'EDGE' oil.

Think HPR10 is semi synth which makes it a blend.

This is fully synth which theoretically means it would break down more slowly and retain it's properties under more extreme conditions.

If you're just looking for a good quality oil for your Swift in the ballpark pricerange this would be fine. It's a technically a better oil than HPR10.

Edit: I'm wrong HPR10 is fully synth as well :/

      • +1

HPR 10 is actually made from a mineral oil but refined to the point where it can be sold as a synthetic oil (so if you own a rotary you can use HPR as it will burn off in the combustion chamber…)

    • +5

The only HPR10 that is 10W-40 is one designed for diesels, plus it is only a semi-synthetic as 0jay said.
HPR5 5W-40 and HPR10 10W-50 are both really good oils - better than the one in the OP.
The HPRs have more additive (maybe zinc) in them which keeps the oil more stable at higher temps.

      • Yes I use the HPR5,very rarely on special these days.Only a couple of years ago it could be had for $30 - $40 with CR…I need a time machine.

I stocked up back then. My supplies are running low since its not been on sale for ages.

          • @stumo: you're right the last good sale was in Jan.

  • So close to 5W-40…

    • +3

Unless you live in very cold places. I doubt 5W and 10W makes a difference in Oz.

      • -1

Just prefer a slightly lighter oil for VTEC although idk if it'll make a difference to wear or performance. Am considering moving from 5W-40 to 5W-30 this year. 10W-40 is moving the other way.

        • +2

Depends on how much load you put onto the car and how old the engine is. If you drive it hard / track the car or if it’s an older engine you’re better going thicker oil (5w40)

I use 5w-40 in both my cars (IS350 and R33, when I tracked the R33 I would go 10w-40 because it, in theory, is a more stable oil and the car would be running consistently at higher RPM’s (and therefore hotter)

  • is it bad to mix engine oil i have a lot of left over 10 - 40w 5- 30 etc can make the 4.5L

    • +3

I personally will not mix different viscosity oils and oil from different brands (same viscosity).

      If it's a lawn mower then I wouldn't care as much…

      • what do ozbarginers do with the leftover then?

        • +2

Use as a top up in between services.

Use as a 'flush' oil with dirty engines.

Use in other engines such as garden equipment, motorbikes, go karts, pressure washers…

Or just recycle with the dirty sump oil at your local waste management centre.

        • +1

What leftover ? Use the remainder of the bottle on your next oil change 🤷🏼‍♂️
You'll always use some of the new bottle, and the last of the old bottle.

Are you just using a fresh bottle every change or something ?

          • @Nom: I swap between magnetic and ultra clean or Valvoline depends on which one comes on sale.
I just have a lot of random different weight left over from every combination between 5 to 40w

    Obligatory cash rewards 2% comment..

Just bought. Very limited stock in Sydney.

Great value compared to my other go-to motorcycle oil

    • The nulon or penrite?

      • +2

Full synth MC oils are over $100 for a 4L bottle…

Hence either Nulon or Penrite synth car oils are a relative bargain.

  • Is this any good for Holden Vectra 1998 patrol engine?

No leaks but It burns oil and my son has to top up once a month, at which point the level is at very low level or below the low mark.

    • +3

      Yes this would be fine.

It's a nice oil though, be a shame to waste it on top ups! Better to do a full change with it and fix the oil leaks.

      • Thanks. Fortunately there is no leak.

        • Not sure "fortunately" is the right word. If it's burning oil in quantity, then the engine is stuffed. If it was just a leak, then it could be fixed…

  • Anybody using this in a pre dfp CRDI Hyundai / Kia engine?
I read of many that experience cold vibrations. Since Castrol got bought by BP I think they make you use more fuel to their own benefit.

  • +4

I might get neg for this, but idc.

After Supercheap stood down their manager for preventing a shoplifter from stealing brake rotors in a pram, I am not going to step into a SCA store again.

    • +1

good point, other stores are having good oil sales too.

    • +5

      I don’t understand.

Confronting a thief outside the store and stopping them from leaving is a very dumb idea.

Every major retailer has policies that you don’t chase a thief out of the store. Being a hero and stopping someone shopping lifting is not in the job description and is actively discouraged.

Had the person had a knife or a gun and injured or killed the manager or other employees Supercheap would be in a lot of hot water.

As a manager he would have known the policy and procedure and if you’re a manager and break that, then you gotta expect some consequences.

  • Called an out of stock store in Sydney and was able to get one (they had 2). Great way to spend some loyalty credits. Thanks OP!
