Changed from Bitwarden to this and couldn’t be more happier.

I use Bitwarden, can you elaborate on what make this better?

    • +3

Care to explain why you're happier? I'm a happy Bitwarden user but always keen to understand why someone would switch to paid.

    • Sorry for the vagueness. Here are some pros I have notice thus far:
      1. It’s UI design is arguably better and less intrusive. I always find the pop up save password prompt of Bitwarden to be very distracting.
      2. If you are in the Apple ecosystem, it integrates with Safari very well. If I’m not mistaken, it is one of the only password manager at the moment where you could save passwords through the browser itself in iOS devices. In short, it has a native plugin as that works just like the desktop versions.

Justifications not good enough to ditch bitwarden for this especially since this one is an annual sub when bitwarden is free for personal use and 2 users.

If you are in the Apple ecosystem, there is Keychain. I keep all passwords in local KeepassXC database, and copy passwords for frequently used websites to iCloud Keychain.

        • forgot to add, I'm also in the Windows ecosystem. I know icloud works too but it sucks.

That's funny because I dumped 1Password (used since 2007) as far too smart for my own good and went to Bitwarden which is simpler (like 1Password before it got too fancy) and actually works. 1Password became a nightmare when I swapped from the simple standalone version to trial the stupid annual licence fee (basically just an excuse for them to charge more). Once the trial was over, getting back to my standalone one was extremely difficult and even their tech support took ages to work it out.

Then a discount (which would have made the expensive subscription version bearably priced) they had going just would not work. When it works it's fine, but it became a PITA.

I just emailed them asking for a deal before my renewal and they gave me a loyalty credit on my account.

I see that you've been a loyal 1Password customer for a few years, so I have added a $20.00 USD credit to your 1Password account as a thank you. The credit will automatically be applied to your invoice when you're charged a subscription renewal on November 16, 2021.

      • Thanks for the idea. We've been using 1P for 12 years (!) (just looked) and decided a few weeks ago to see what happens if we stopped our subscription.

Result: surprisingly okay leaning on Keychain… for now. Everything in 1P remains available, just nothing can be added or changed.

Of course, going Keychain means losing a huge amount of organisational ability: tags, notes, multiple vaults, and individual accounts + shared vaults available in 1P family.

        • Update: Got a discount, thanks rpb for raising it as a possibility!

      • Thanks, I've just contacted them to ask the same — discounts for long-time existing users. Hopefully they are able to give us something!

What I ended up doing a few months ago was buying a gift card (US $125 for US $99) and applying it to my own account. Saves a little bit on the annual renewals.

This seems to be an ongoing sale: https://1password.com/giftcards/

  • 1P sucks on Android.

  • OP, how did you get the pricing of ~$40 AUD Individuals / ~$66 AUD Families?

On the sign up page, the pricing is:

    • Individual: $1.50 USD per month billed annually or $18 USD / $25 AUD (+ GST)
    • Families: $2.50 USD per month billed annually or $30 USD / $42 AUD (+ GST)

Why not just use the password manager built in to Firefox, it's fast, simple, open source and free and works just fine.
