Don't we all already have one?

    • -2

No, this is a different model (WIFI only) and no other deals with other provider, etc. attached.

      • +2

So it's a cheaper model, doesn't come with 30GB data a month for a year, and only costs more than double! ;)

        • Other deal was a glitch, usual pricing is $399 although Amazon have had them in the low $200's.

          • @Spendmore: What makes you say it's a glitch? It was available for several days.

            • @eug: A few people had their orders cancelled so assumed this was the reason, certainly not Optus business model to lose money.

              • @Spendmore: Have a look at the comments in that post, the vast majority got theirs. The theory is that some people who contacted the support team to find out what was happening just happened to reach some clueless support employees who couldn't get any definite info or ended up with incorrect info and tried to sign them up for a more expensive plan instead.

My friend ordered on the 24th of April, never contacted them at all, then last Monday it showed up.

From what I see, the glitch is the small number of people who got their orders cancelled.

                • @eug: I sat and waited. And it eventually arrived. I ordered on the 26th April.
For around $220 with the data on top, (128gb model) I absolutely can't complain at all

From that deal, Mine got cancelled 😡

PS: Cheaper from their eBay Store - $276 Delivered with eBay Plus code 'PLSAVE20'.

    • +1

Apparently, the code "PLSAVE20" works for eBay Plus members only.

      • +1

        Yep, updated my comment.

Still, signing up for eBay Plus for a month ($4.99), still works out cheaper than purchasing directly from their site.

        • I agree, I ended up doing so, thank you :)

          • @Shahram: It's being listed as $345 on their Ebay page - assuming $5 for Ebay plus sign-up, are we talking a $64 discount here? Doesn't seem right.

            • @jjtav: Once you apply the code "PLSAVE20" as a ebayPlus member, you get 20% discount.

              • @Shahram: Thanks, will give it a go. Do you happen to know how many OTA upgrades the A8 will be getting? I'm guessing it's one more after Android 12?

  • Mostly, I wouldn't pay that much for one either. It's so so.

These were on sale on Amazon in March for $194. I suggest setting up a CamelCamelCamel alert so you know when the price drop happens again.

    • Love my one from the Optus deal, as a newly recruited tablet user, I prefer it immensely for lounging around than my laptop as I’d used my whole life. At sub 200 I’d very much recommend it tbh.

      • I got one from the Optus deal also, really struggling to get used to it tbh lol. It’s quite heavy and can’t naturally hold it well/no S pen support.

Bought it to learn how to use android (apple and windows user) , have no idea where to start lol

$150 for 4G version or no Deal!

  • -5

I got this tablet with the Optus deal, and trust me when I say this, this tablet is worth no more than $150. It's an overpriced piece of shit.

    • +9

I think that's a bit exaggerated. To me it's a decent entry level tablet that's only let down by a blueish screen.

What other better 4G alternatives are there for $150?

The wifi model is probably worth $200-250. You get a 2-year warranty, wide range of cases, and software updates.

    • If you gave some examples of why, I'd be more inclined to believe you.

      • 1) Horrible display
        2) Quite slow. Chokes a lot of the time with basic stuff like switching apps.
        3) On the heavier side for a 10" tablet.

  • -2

Fot the quality and spec of this tablet.
I wouldn't recommend to pay for this price

  • +1

Not worth the price. You can get better spec'd tablets off Aliexpress for cheaper (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/701420).

    • The key selling point for me is that whilst the Xiaoxin devices have better specs, they don't have Widevine L1 support. Even Lenovo's not supporting customers, despite Xiaoxin being branded as a subsidiary / local CN version -> https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Android-based-Tablets-an…

My gripe with these nicely spec'd CN devices is mainly what's the point of having good hardware when you're streaming from Netflix / Prime at 480p? They all tend to blame each other and customers lose out. The A8s are not going to be de-listed (it's the OEM's responsibility to ensure the security certification is retained during OTA upgrades). Moreover, Samsung's promised 2 more OTA upgrades, which implies that there will be support for Android 12 and beyond.

Question is whether this is worth the extra $100 or is it worth waiting for another deal similar to Amazon or Optus ones.

  • Not bad, but used to be cheaper couple of months ago…

$289 at Bing Lee , price match at Officeworks

    • +2

Just caught this. Multiple retailers are pricing it between $289 - $299 incl. Amazon, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks. Is this the lowest it's going to get before EOFY? I think we're not going to see the crazy $150 - $194 Optus / Amazon pricing in the near future.

Officeworks has the same tablet for much cheaper price: $297

  • is there a cellular version on sale anywhere?

    • Check Facebook marketplace and gumtree. Probably tons from the optus deal

  • Think this has expired cus I clicked the link and its not working.
