        In Sri Lankan Airlines, where I had a stopover of 10+ hours at Srilanka, they offered a free hotel stay. It depends from airline to airline. I wasn't aware of it, but they emailed me a few days before the flight that I was eligible.

      Bought a RTW the world with Swiss few years ago. Awesome airline, great food.
      Zurich airport is an architectural gem of zen.
      Outside the plane though, no freebies

        I'm surprised they didn't carry across Lufthansa's program to Swiss, since they are all owned by Lufthansa group. Did you book direct or via a 3rd party?
        Out of interest also have you travelled long haul on both Swiss and Lufthansa? If so, do you have any feedback about which is better

      I have heard Luft (also Swiss which they own) doing it for 24hrs+ stopovers, but personally I am not a member of their program and have never personally tried to get free hotels from Luft group. I do know they have a great stopover program (Allows you to alter your route) and add a max of 2 stopovers (if you are keen for a break and want a few days in say Hong Kong) but be warned tickets not booked direct will likely have none of these benefits. I suggested checking the prices on the Lufthansa website (or their group website), as I find a lot of the time it's around the same amount of maybe an extra $50. You can get a lot more (service and flexibility wise) when booking direct, hence if it's only a small difference it might be worth it for you

    Got any deals in mid December or is that out of the question? I wanted to go to Rome but one way was going to cost $2,350 from Brisbane

      No deals unfortunately. That price is probably as cheap as it's going to get, so perhaps book ASAP. Do you have any points you can use? Use it to fly to Asia (Denpasar, Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Manila etc) and start your journey from there. Makes a big difference

      There was a good selection of flights to many EU destinations leaving 3rd week dec and return 3rd week Jan 23 (I looked for myself) listed on Skyscanner. You might also find flying to places like Athens, Paris or London might save you a heap. I have almost always in the past flown to London (LHR) and then buy a business ticket and still save cash

        Yup. If you are not picky on airlines, I find Turkish, Finnair and Gulf Air offer some really cheap flights to Europe from Asia (especially in business class)
