Man the reviews on Amazon aren’t exactly glowing..

I've had two of them for over a year. Admittedly I haven't used them a stack nor have I used them with a home assist, but when I have used them for simple functions like timers for lights when I am away, monitoring computer power consumption or turning a heater on/off in a childs room, they have worked without issue.

      • Do you know the power consumption? Because I wouldn't mind getting something like this to schedule turning off things like my TV and computer overnight, but if the plug's power draw is more than the TV on standby, it's kinda pointless.

        • TV would use more I suspect in standby. I have the TV plugged into a Powerboard with other related devices, Media Player, Light, Chromecast and so on. The Powerboard is connected to the Smart Plug so it is not just the TV that is turned off.

Not sure about this device but here are some numbers on a couple of other similar plugs for what it's worth!
          - Meross (Model MSS310): Off = 0.35w On = 0.96
          - Kogan (Model KASPEMHUSBA): Off = 0.7w On = 1.2w
          - Bauhn (Model ASPU-1019) Off = 0.4w On = 0.9w (no power monitoring on this one)

I expect the difference between on and off is the LED light

Well description did say to plug it into a lamp.

    • +1

This is silly for any lamp that takes standard bulbs. Much better to get a smart-bulb. Get dimming control, warm/cool if you want, no click, no blocking adjacent outlets.
And nobody cares about the power use of an LED, unless on battery.

It is useful for an aircon, to monitor heating/cooling cost, though most aircons seem to be hard-wired these days. I'm struggling to find a use for these.

Great deals on smart power boards would be awesome 👌

Cygnett Smart Wi-Fi 4-Way Power Board currently half price at Big W
      https://www.bigw.com.au/product/cygnett-4-outlet-smart-power…

      • I have two of these and they have been great!

        • Does the Power Board also have energy monitoring? Either single outlet or all outlets?

          • +1

@ganjadeals: Did you click on the link to read the page?

"Let your appliances do the thinking for you. Control multiple appliances at once with 4x individually controlled smart outlets, plug them in and you’re set to control it from your phone or voice using Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri. Or create schedules for portable heating and cooling, lights, TVs and more to turn-on/off at set times. Plus, track the power usage of any appliance connected to the smart plug."

            • @PeppaPigDidNthngWrng: Thanks for pointing that out. I was on the lookout for energy monitoring (use too much of the the TPLink stuff) and missed this part.

            • @PeppaPigDidNthngWrng: It’s interesting they say that. I don’t see any energy monitoring on the app. Mine must be an earlier model, will have to check.

@pitufon: Can anyone who owns the powerboard confirm that it does have Energy Monitoring? As noted in my post further down I suspect it might be misleading and only shows energy "if you have connected to a Smart Plug"?.
No mention of this on Cygnett's product page. I am sure they would note this as a selling feature if it indeed had energy monitoring.

                • @Borg: What's weird is that there is no support page for this power board. I was going to look the manual up, but… nothing. The wifi plug, lights - everything else is there. But not this board. Strange.

      • That looks brilliant! Thanks for the heads up!

So squarely oversized. Would take three socket places on a power board to run one off these.

I have two from a previous deal (two for $19 i think). They are huge but I’ve used them a lot and they work fine. They work with HomeKit which is a bonus. Only reason I wouldn’t buy them again is because of how huge they are.

  • Works fine for power monitoring (using for over a year now 24/7), but like others said footprint is huge

These are trash, they need to be within a meter or two of the router to maintain connection. Basically unusable for me

I have 3 and always have issues with them. 1 of them I cant even connect to at all anymore.

Beware, if you have android device it may not pair/setup, I tried for hours… in the end I had to first use an apple phone to setup using the Apple Software as the cygnet smart app is shite, once setup my Android can control it without issues & they only support WiFi 2.4 channel so if your router doesn't use a separate SSID for that band it may not setup at all…

  • They were a bit painful to set up, but I've had 3 for over a year, and once it was all set up with Homekit it's been rock solid

  • +1

I’ve used the same plug, in my office it was to far from a HomeKit hub, moved to a more central room and rock solid, responds instantly to voice command

  • Thanks OP, this is as low as it is likely going to get for a while. Bought 6 of them in the previous 50% off sale and deployed 5 of them at this stage (1 spare), this is the only HomeKit-compatible smart plug that provides power monitoring (albeit via Cygnett's own app). I am in a HomeKit environment with Android phones in the home wifi
2 out of 5 are 24/7, one as energy monitor for the fridge; second one monitors computer energy WFH
3 are on-demand, mostly lamp and lights or powerboard

11 months in , I had one died out of the blue in the middle of the many lockdown, received replacemnt in the mail.

Cygnett's own app can be quite slow to establish connnection and allow control, you will get faster response via Apple's Home app

There are smaller smart plugs out there if you don't need the energy monitoring, esp. if you are not tied in a HomeKit environment,
If you are in HomeKit ecosystem, this one has the edge over meross' HomeKit smart plug because it has energy monitoring, once again, there are smaller smart plugs as soon as you are willing to give up energy monitoring feature

  • How hard is it to program one of these power monitoring plugs to switch a device off once kW consumption has passed x value?

  • The IKEA Tradfri smart plugs are not the best quality (I've had a couple fail), but they have warranty so you can just swap them.

And with those ones you can have a remote switch (additional to app, etc). Having a remote switch makes all the difference for me

Cygnett's app for these is really very horrid. Its nice to have homekit for such a low price, but that's the only good thing I can say about them.

  • +1

OK, I’ve read what other people have said.

I have around 20 of these and they work flawlessly. Range is excellent and response using HomeKit perfect.

It wasn’t always this way and here’s what you need to do:

    1. Make sure you install them using the Cygnett app. They will be added to HomeKit in the process.

    2. Update the firmware using the Cygnett App.

I had issues like other people have described and I had installed them directly in HomeKit. Drop outs, failures to operate etc. now they are perfect. The only way to update the firmware is in the Cygnett App.

I’ve just bought more of these and they are brilliant. The four point power boards they make are great too and currently on sale at Big W.

    • Assuming this is the 4-point power board you were referring to?:

      https://www.bigw.com.au/product/cygnett-4-outlet-smart-power…

This is noted as also having power monitoring. Does it do so for each plug or for the entire board?

      • I wonder does this actually have Energy Monitoring. I know it says Plus, track the power usage of any appliance connected to the smart plug, but wonder should this say "if you have connected to a Smart Plug"?. This is a power board,
