Xiaomi Smart Wi-Fi Socket Plug Standard Version USD $7.89 / AUD $10.19 Delivered @ GearBest

790
11.11GBPeter

EDIT: Hi everyone another 100 units have been added. Go get them!!

Hi everyone,
I have been working on this deal with the Rep for over a week now. This is the Non-Zigbee version of this plug so can operate with the app on your phone and does not need the Home Gateway. My original code was posted previously by another user, but I didn't think the price was good enough before, hence why I didn't post it myself. I got another $2 USD shaved off and is now possibly the cheapest we have seen on OzBargain.

As always it is limited to first 100 (99 now!), 3 times per account, AU, NZ only!

Main Features:
• Original Xiaomi mi smart WiFi socket for daily use
• Mobile phone remote control, you can switch power supply optionally when not at home (Mobile phones must be connected network)
• Overload protection, safe to use
• High temperature resistant, 750 degree high temperature fire resistant material, safe to use
• LED indicator: Hidden lights, with downy light at night, easy to notice
• Timing switch, close some home appliances in long-term standby state, also can make some household appliances intelligent, east to control
• The case is made of 750 degree high temperature flame resistant material, interior is made of 0.6mm high quality carobronze, plug is made of 1.5mm brass, very safe
• Easy to use stand-alone application: Xiaomi smart socket can use phone APP available to implement its action, which not only has a simple interface, but it is also easier to set up
• It is small and light weight, intelligent and safe, you can take it along during your travel
• Suitable for phone, charger, kettle, fan, TV, lamp, cooker, etc.

Edit 31/10 8am: New code 11.11GBPeter (thanks team teri)

Can you use with Google home?

  • guess I'm confused. you save energy by turning off using app while away.
    but it uses wifi 24/7.
so how much energy will it use just idle?

    • +15

I wouldnt think it would use much, just enough to hold on to a wifi connection. I dont use them to save power, i use them so i can be lazy. Connected to a fan on the other side of the room, so i dont have to burn any calories to turn it on or off

    • Interested to know this too.
We bought an Arlec remote control power point and the idle power use is listed as 2 watts. Dunno if that's "good" in the realm of a receiver on standby but it seems like a lot given that's almost half the power use of an LED light globe.

      • +10

You can do some math around this - something I'm now doing when I think about adding computing equipment to the house..

2 watts over an hour is 2 watt hours. in a day that's 48 watt hours. In a year that's around 17500 watt hours or 17.5 kWh.

A kWh costs around 30c (for the purposes of this exercise) - which works out to around $5 a year.

If you used this for 5 years, you'd spend around $25 (again, just as a rough number)

So the original cost being around $11, you'd have a TCO of $36 on this, per device, for 5 years or about $7 a year for the convenience of turning things on and off remotely..

    • given the existence of BT for low power, I can only assume wifi is 'high' power.
Plus next to a wall socket must need more power than a phone in the middle of a room.

  • Bought one for the smart scheduler function :)

  • I finally got it to work with home assistant, so may as well get another

  • +1

can u get a deal on the zigbee version?
much prefer that as it tracks actual energy usage

    • Did you get any last week from Yoshop for US$9.00?
I could use another couple if Gearbest could match this price of US$7.99 for the wifi ones. As I understand it, zigbee also uses much less power than wifi and, for those that might be worried, less electromagnetic radiation.

  • +6

Any connectivity to Alexa, Google Home or IFTTT?

    • Keen also if it support the above, anyone?

  • Can I use this as a Korean to AU plug converter?

  • Guys can I use this when Im away from home? Or do i need to be connected to same network(wifi)?

    • +2

You don't, I use it to switch my garage light on when I'm on the way home. So can use with WiFi and thru LTE.

All looks good. My personal experience with Gearbest for the last couple of months 8 orders none of them actually DELIVERED. 5 orders from ebay all get delivered.

    • All mine eventually come through, but after about 6 weeks

    • +3

8 orders from gearbest and 2 orders from geekbuying haven't come? Do you live in the forest?

      • +9

This guy is either the unluckiest guy in the delivery world, prone to exaggeration, gaming the system, trolling or living on a boat in Melbourne.
Have a look at his posts
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/198645
First thing I would do is talk to someone who can help. Ie gearbest. Funny thing is he added another 1 from yesterday’s post. He said 7 yesterday it’s 8 today.

        • Didn't get first order.
          Didn't get second order.
          Didn't get third order.

Yet continues to buy from them?!

          Doesn't sound at all suspicious!

        • @psy: We're professionals. No grudges in business.

  • +3

Just be careful with this item, it doesn't comply to Australian/NZ electrical safety standards.

    • Please explain for those of us that aren't technical….

      • +2

just a guess from my part, may technical specs you cannot unless you request the test certificates but the elephant in the room would be the image of the power prongs unsheathed, Live and Neutral https://gloimg.gbtcdn.com/gb/pdm-product-pic/Electronic/2017….

Australian standards require all power plugs to be sheathed, you can check for yourself, find an item in your house that has been manufactured in the past 5 years and you will see the prongs are sheathed.

If they have not bothered to comply to one of the requirements, then its obvious they have not designed this product to meet Australian standards.

        • I can confirm all my Aussie products from the last 5 years have sheathed plugs.

What's this supposed to do for safety?

Is it bad if I'm using the power cable from my old Macintosh Classic II, to power my monitor right now? It'd be a good 25 years old now…

        • +1

If your venetian blinds fall down and one of the metal slats slips down between the plug and the socket you will not get electrocuted

        • @Matt88: This standard came about with children and some adults getting shocked when fingers get caught between the wall socket and plug.

Your old products are still safe as long as things dont go pear shaped, new products will remove more hazards if things do.

  • +12

Oops I see a lot of questions unanswered Anyways this item is good here’s what will happen as with all the Xiaomi products.
It’s realeased for first 100 ozbargainers
And then it will go “OUT OF STOCK” or “Expired”
which seeen by other ozbargainers will think deal is good
And they would wait for the deal to be posted again
Of course the deal will be posted again
May be for fifty next time
Again “OUT OF STOCK” or “Expired”
People who missed again would curse them self for being slow and not catching the deal quickly
Next realse would be 500 stock
And 500 ozbees would pounce on it not realising if they actually need it or not but assuming that this has always gone “OUT OF STOCK” so it’ should be good
    Please think before you buy
I am soon coming out with a self help checklist to make sure what we buy is right for us
If you think this is a good idea reply Yay or if you think this idea is just a waste of time reply Nay
    Cheers
    Happy spending
And don’t forget when u spend u get cash rewards

  • oh no!!! new code??

  • +1

damn, missed out…Do you reckon you could get anymore added to this deal ridecwb?

    • +1

Trying to get some more stock added to the deal, will let you know here once it happens.

      • thanks mate

        • +1

Another 100 units added, get onto it!!

      • thank you

  • Got 10 from eBay for $7.70 each then 10% off. These things work just like a wemo plug if not better.

    • Link please, dont think you can get a Xiaomi smart plug for that price.

    • I did see that on eBay yesterday, but I was unsure if they were going to be genuine. Can you confirm?

      • Haven't receive it yet. How do you tell if it is not genuine? What if it still works with mi app?

        • No idea tbh, i mean if it works then that's all the matters, fingers crossed!

  • For people who have purchased this - the website reviews seem to imply the following:

    • The wifi version requires you to have working internet access to be functional - as it is managed through the cloud (?)
    • The Zigbee version will work all the time as it connects to a local gateway (which presumably can be managed/connected to locally?)
    • Only the ZIgbee version will monitor power usage in addition to being able to remotely switch power on and off

    Is that correct ?

    • I believe it is only possible to access the wifi version via the MI Home app - when connected to the servers in China - if I use the MI Home app connected to Singapore (or other places), it doens't allow me to add the wifi switch….

      • +1

I've been using mine for a few months now, and have finally got Homebridge running on an old, outdated Raspberry Po. I'll let you know if I get it working with Siri. It's already pretty amazing to turn on the coffee machine from bed, even if I have to use the Mi app.

  • +1

Bought the ZigBee version a month back from Geekbuying, 4 for US$47 (including shipping).Works perfectly in NZ with Domoticz and Mi Gateway.

i have my home theatre setup plugged into a similar one..
set to turn off at 10pm and on agsin at 6am..

so the tv, dvd, playstation, amp, assorted other shit plugged in, all turn off

its only standby power, but I think it has worked to lower my bill somewhat

  • does it waste electricity on standby?

  • I wish Xiaomi had a smart outdoor irritation controller..

    • +2

What are you wanting to irritate?

      • +2

Er.. water drippers and sprinkers in my garden?

        • That’s better than irritating the neighbors

        • @zebra: lol I just noticed my typo.

        • @visionistnz: haha 😂

    • There is one on Gearbest, but I made my own. I got a Wemo maker and wired it to a sprinkler solenoid from Bunnings. It works beautifully.

      • How do you keep your maker weather proof? I am haven't figured out how to keep the plug and the maker itself water proof.

        • Wemo maker is in my ceiling cavity, i run long wires to the solenoid

        • @Burnertoasty: Thanks. I'd hate getting into my roof space, especially near the outside wall it would be very tight since that's where my roof meets the top of the wall!

        • @schwinn: long cable

      • Thanks for the info, found a Youtube video:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QLhNIq6p7o

    • Use a Wemo Maker and connect your sprinkler system bro.

  • Expired :(

  • Edit 31/10 8am: New code 11.11GBPeter (thanks team teri)

  • Is this site dead?

  • I wish i understood what this actually does…….

    • haha but you bought one anyway?

      • No, not yet, but i did buy this brands pen, camera and fitbit clone

  • Just got 1 code still works. Thanks OP!

  • word. thanks

  • +5
  • but is it safe to use?

  • So I've got the Xiaomi hub - are these the way to go for automating for Hass? Or should I be getting the zigbee alternatives?

    • +1

I have the hub too and got one of the Zigbee ones already. The reason I wanted a few WiFi ones (other than slightly lower price) is that I assume that the range will be better. I plan to use one of the WiFi ones for the bore pump for example, that is in a pit in the garden, a little too far away for Zigbee.

      • Thanks mate. That makes sense!

      • What is the actual range for Zigbee ? I'm having a hard time working out exactly where I need to locate the gateway.. in relation to where I'd like to use the zigbee devices..

        • Around 10m if there aren't too many too solid walls in between.

        • @team teri:

Thanks TT. Is there a concept of a Zigbee 'extender' ?

I am figuring the gateway is the 'zigbee access point' - so how do i build a bigger network to get coverage into other buildings.

For example I would love to put a Xiaomi Zigbee plug out with the pool pump - so I can see exactly how much power it uses but also use it to program a schedule and turn it on/off remotely.

However it's > 10m away from the gateway..

        • @jason andrade: People say that any mains powered ZigBee device works as an extended. For example the ZigBee version of this plug. I haven't verified it for myself, still waiting for some more ZigBee plugs to be delivered.

        • @team teri:

Hmm, that's interesting. So basically if you have a Zigbee plug ever 10m then theoretically you can keep extending your network.

A bit of a problem when the next point is 10m away or you need to span an outdoor gap that is more than 10m across your two indoor points..

    • What other good stuff can you do with the hub?
