These cameras have been retailing for $800+ post-corona (used to be lower $700). Really great price, got an extra one to expand my home security.
Great cameras if you are into Ubiquiti hardware.

Optical zoom I assume pushes it up
Because they have their fanbois that will pay.
Just because it's Ubiquiti and their ecosystem.
I have a few of these and the quality is good, but a Reolink/Hikvision camera is better for 1/10th of the price.
For 1/2" 8MP Hik Pro/Dahua Wizmind IPC5 would cost about $600 with better quality in nearly every way.
Brand name mostly.
Between the outsourced development mess plaguing their network devices and Ubiquiti’s lack of any real support lifecycle (how about the last range, Unifi Video for instance) I don’t know that I’d be ponying up those sorts of dollars for these cameras.
It’s a shame because they really led the market and there’s no one else competing, I assume that and name is what they’re still trading on
I couldn't agree more. Absolutely ridiculous considering their support and life cycle.
Checkout Blue Iris - runs on Windows and is 1000 times better than Unifi Protect - it works with all cameras including the Unifi range.
I used to run v4 and it was indeed a great piece of software. Unfortunately these days I don’t run any Windows machines, so I’ve been using “great for the price” Shinobi and ZoneMinder
why are they so expensive ? just curious.
