280

Just found this when looking at deals for the boom arm. $30 off regular price ($179) and seems to be the lowest price for the PSA1+ right now.

People, instead of just negging, give a reason why you disagree with canberrascooter's comment

      feedback as below is useful

      • -1

        The negs are the feedback.

      • If read their previous posts and comments, you would know why

    • been using mine for some 6 months now with Shure MV7. Never had any base wobble issues, even on the cheaper PSA1

    • +2

Ive been using these arms for 10+ years with no issues.

This particular model is the better version which i also own and its one of the best arms on the market.

If you have seen a base wobble that bad, maybe they did not tighten it enough to start with.

Also remember that Rode is an Australian brand. You have issues - call the number and they will look after you.

      • -2

"Better" because it has a cheap fabric wrap. The OG is $20 cheaper.

        • the fittings, mounting points are different; more refined. My PSA1 started squeaking when adjusting both the arm pivot and mic pivot. Been using the PSA1+ longer now, havent had the same issues.

        • It is different, not just fabric wrap.

  • +6

Just got one of these for 179 and they are fantastic. Silent arm movement, holds in place well.
The wobble comment above is bs, the base is solid, the grommet mount one especially so. The other one is the same as the psa1 with extra rubber padding and a deeper base, so it's stronger. It even holds its position well when fully extended horizontally.

  • the mic arm costs more than my mic o.o

    • Some mics are thousands of dollars too.

nice stand, decent price but not a fan of the branding on this one

    • +1

      same, any suggestions for alternatives

      • I didn't end up buying one, as yet, but the Elgato Wave LP was the one I liked the best from looking through youtube reviews https://www.amazon.com.au/Elgato-Wave-Mic-Arm-Professional/d…

        • +2

I own this stand and the Elgato wave LP. The Elgato design is flawed - dont get it. The arm tightening system does not hold well and if you touch it slightly it eventually drops.

My personal opinion- get the Rode.

      • if you are a cheapo like me and want the best bang for buck i recommend this for $40 https://www.swamp.net.au/isk-sksd009b-desk-mountable-microph…
not as easily adjustable as the $100+ ones but does the job well (what i mean buy this is to make any movement you cant just move it, you have to loosen the bit you want to move by rotating the swivel then adjusting it and tightening it once done, there are like 4-5 of these swivels in total)

sure there are very adjustable cheap ones for the same price but those are usually poorly built and made of cheap, flimsy materials that dont last (i had a neweer one and that was awful in comparison), this is simple yet solid so i would rather have less maneuverability as long as it moves well (the build quality is great for $40, plastic feels very premium and the metal has a nice black finish so the only non-black part is the swivel which lies under the table)

same price on amazon and ebay but swamp seems more local so i went with them

I have a Samson MBA38 and have been happy with it. Can hold over 2kg of mic and shock mount https://www.amazon.com.au/Samson-Technologies-Mounting-Arm-M…

    • Not that having to do this is a perfect solution but at the YouTube vid timestamped below, there is a solution for removing the logos without having to cut the sleeves off.

      https://youtu.be/SX_zS0hk-_A?t=1091

He mentioned in a reply to a comment that he removed the rest of the logos with better technique than the first since that video was posted. I had a flick through a somewhat recent Q&A stream he posted and you can see him using it with the sleeves sans logos and it looks pretty good to me.

Might be worth considering at least if the branding puts you off it completely.

fun fact: if you use google street view, you will see that Mannys Fitzoy North and Storedj Fitzoy are literally in the same store front. Whatever Mannys doesn't have in stock, same as Storedj, and vice versa. I wonder if they're under one company.

      • Ah right. Lol

    • +1

Both shops are owned by the same company.

I have the previous model which has less branding.

AFR had an article recently on the Australian owner of Rode: https://www.afr.com/rich-list/the-high-school-dropout-who-bu…

      • I bought the old model for $40 second hand and thought I scored a bargain. Oh man how wrong I was. That thing made creaking noise even when I touched the table which it clamped on.

        • no such problems with my old model.

        • +1

Sounds like the previous owner over stretched the arm of something in the wrong direction.

Look up a disassembly video and check the joints. Also try some 3 in 1 oil or WD40 ( only a little ) and that should clean if up a little.

        • I bought the PSA1 after I bent the cheapo Neweer arm at the base where you mount the arm to the table clamp since January. No problems for me even with the constant movement of going up and down when in or not in use for voice calls.

Ozbargain truly is a broad church

  • Got one from Amazon yesterday for $152.15, excellent boom arm if a little pricey upfront. Moves silently, solid base, it stays where you want it to, the clips for cable management are great and all of the mounting points are extemely solid. Plus it comes with a 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch adapter.

  • Our company bought one of these and it doesn't hold a K2, the weight limit seems just under what the mic weighs, so it's been in a box doing nothing since, if anyone is interested I'll make it available.

    • It holds up to 1.1kg with the shock mount- shoot them an email! It's an aussie place after all

      • Yeah rode are great and it is rated at 1.1 and we asked Digi Direct before purchase if it would hold and were told it would, however, it sags slowly until the shock mount hits the table and then you're transferring all your vibrations through negating the point.

It was a shame and it does work well for every other mic we tested in it, great product for a lighter mic.

We're in Melbourne, we'll put the arm and shock mount on gumtree in the coming days.

One last thing that you probably have tried already - there is a tensioner, and by default it's about mid way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM_Cl-hHZtQ&t=92s random link for the psa1, I think the Psa1+ is the same location. Give it a crack anyway?

          • @superroach: Interesting, will definitely give that a shot, thanks 👍

    • Yes Bob. Let me know if I can buy yours?

    • Where are you based?

  • -2

It's the PSA-1 with a 50 cent fabric cover on it. Save $20 if you don't give a damn, lose the giant rode branding, and get the near enough same product from the same store.

    • It was remade, not just the fabric cover.

    • The mic mount is completely different and much better - it's well thought out. The grommet thing as a mount option is a great idea if you want to go that way

  • +2

A big benefit of the new one is that it holds microphones as little as 100g. The lowest for the previous model was 700g.
