I get "This code can't be applied to some of your items."

      • +1

Code was removed from my account.
Looks like I killed the code by broadcasting it…

Oh well, looks like I'm not gonna buy after all…

  • Yikes, I bought a 7390 for $3k-ish

  • Would've bought one if it weren't for the low res display.

  • Could I possibly play CS go on this?

    • Most Definitely can play Doom

      • Most definitely can play Wolfenstein

    • Yeah it would actually run semi ok at 720p

      • Running at native resolution

    • I get a sub 60fps lowest settings on my laptop with an i5-8250u which has the same integrated graphics (UHD 620). Pretty inconsistent framerate, I wouldn’t recommend

  • -2

OP you mentioned you replace batteries with new if you find swelling. Can I specify new battery pls?

  • Any I7 cpu 7290 s ?

  • Damn! Not a bad deal. If only I had eBay plus

    • What will Ebay Plus give you on this deal? I think the PLSMAYY7 coupon is for everyone and shipping is free

      • PLSMAYY7 is only for eBay plus members.

        PLSMAY5 for non-plus. ($379.05)

  • +1

Rep can you do a similar or better price via your website - https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/dell-latitude-7…

We can then all avoid the eBay tax

  • Definitely 12.5" 1366 x 768 screen is not a deal-breaker but I am genuinely concerned about the battery unless it's replaced already.

    • 45ish bux for battery n 10 minutes to change

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164563641045?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

      • -5

Okay, let me explain. I've been using top spec business laptops (non-gaming) for more than two decades now and over time, most batteries required more frequent charging than when we got the laptop first time and it always went down hill from there. So I don't think this particular model is an exception. I am also not too concerned about 45 bux or 10min to replace it. Just flagging that simple fact here.

        • +2

Yes, thats a problem with the battery, not the laptop. Thats how batteries work in nearly all devices today. This can be fixed by simply changing the battery for a NEW ONE.

Batteries are consumables. Even built in ones.

  • +2

Is the Windows Version Home or Pro?

    • YMMV, however every Latitude I've owned or seen is Win Pro

    • Hi OP would like to know this as well.

    • +1

      Home sorry

  • Hmmm this or a Thinkpad L380? I can't make my mind up.

  • -1

There drawback is: no thunderbolt port even no usb 3.2 gen 2 support. and no type-c power charge support.

    • -1

      Yes there is?

      • -1

No, USB is 3.1 Gen 2 and Thunderbolt 3 is an optional extra from the factory (which we have no clue if these units have thunderbolt at this stage).

    • -1

Here the manual I shared above. It states, "2 x USB 3.1 Gen1 (one with PowerShare)" and "DisplayPort over USB Type-C (optional Thunderbolt 3)", but the seller has not confirmed if there is thunderbolt with these units as they have just copied and pasted into their eBay listing. Hopefully they will confirm this at some point as a few people have asked.

  • What sort of output do these have? Can I use it as a htpc for 4k60 to my TV? I'd wanna use my TV as a monitor as well for Web browsing

    • +2

It has an Intel® UHD Graphics 620

      4K Support Yes, at 60Hz
      Max Resolution (HDMI) 4096x2304@24Hz

      • +1

Late to the party but the GPU being capable of 4k60 doesn't guarantee it'll work. I have a Lenovo with a 4k60 capable GPU (i5 1165G7) but with only an HDMI 1.4b port, it can only do 4k30.

Not saying that's the case here, just that further investigation is necessary.

  • +3

    such a crappy screen though

    • 12" screen. How good are your eyes?

    • 200 Nits of joy also :)
Seems alright for those that don't want a good screen and simply a cheap production device

  • +1

Looks like it has 4K output at only 24Hz via HDMI port which might be a deal breaker for many who wants to connect it to 4K TV. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    • Intel® UHD Graphics 620 can do 4k(3840 x 2160)@60Hz, 24Hz is for 4096x2304 over HDMI which is higher than 4K.

      • Ah, I see. Good to know. These lines might create some doubts in one's mind though.

        Max Resolution (HDMI)‡
        4096x2304@24Hz

        Max Resolution (DP)‡
        4096x2304@60Hz

Max Resolution (eDP - Integrated Flat Panel)‡
        4096x2304@60Hz

      • This laptop only has an HDMI 1.4 port, which is limited to 4K @ 30Hz.

From the listing it's not clear whether it can do 4K @ 60Hz with DisplayPort over USB-C, but definitely not by HDMI.

  • Any recommendations for price range of $300 - $750 with type C charging? Anything up to 15" is fine.

E: I should mention usage will be very basic. Word, chrome, YouTube, email, etc.

  • Usual whingers wanting to spend $300 for a laptop with all bells and whistles.

    • +1

This is a pretty good deal but I see where they are coming from, we are talking about refurbs not brand new Chromebooks.

Last week I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6 for just $40 more than this with Lenovo premium onsite warranty to 2023.

That X1 Carbon has the same specs, i5-8350u etc but it is much better built using carbon fibre/magnesium with a 14" 1080p 300nit IPS display and you can upgrade it to be 4G LTE capable for $150 in parts which is what I did.

      • 8GB of ram?

        • Oh yeah missed that, that would be the one difference. CPU & storage is the same.

On the flip side of 8GB of RAM it has more features that I wanted, like USB-C charging, 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports, Windows Hello IR facial recognition & fingerprint reader. The seller sold it for cheap and threw in a Microsoft Modern Mouse because it had a faulty touchpad, even though it is still in warranty, and I pretty much walked out with a bargain of a laptop and a Lenovo tech on the way to replace the suspected parts.

But that's sort of getting sidetracked, my point was more that for this price range you can actually get a lot of bells and whistles.

      • Hey brosk1s,

If you don't mind me asking, did you purchase your ThinkPad from a refurb eBay seller or via Grays?

        • I got mine from a refurb eBay seller

        • +1

Be really, really careful with Grays. The last one I purchased had an issue so I called Lenovo and they advised that the laptop had been marked as stolen on their end. Apparently it replaced under warranty and was supposed to be sent back to Lenovo but never was. Grays then sold it off as a refurbished item (despite it having a fried motherboard) which is illegal.

          • @Fabio08: You would think refurbished would indicate basic checks have been made to ensure proper function, that's a terrible experience. I'll bear that in mind when purchasing from them next time.

Were you able to push for a refund?

            • +2

@TeddyBear: They made it super difficult and kept pointing to the fact that the listing indicated it was an ‘as-is’ sale. I ended up giving up, but vowed to make sure I let people know it was a scam.

  • HD TN screen. This is what the ghetto kids will get for their BYOD. I think they might have troubles with excessive scrolling as kids will be expected to have FHD.

  • I can finally upgrade from my almost decade old Dell Latitude 6220.

Almost a renewed version of the same computer with the 12.5 screen and all.

  • +1

Great specs for the price. Will be good for getting basic work done (on an external monitor)

    • +1

Yep and portability when required. When you're outside I don't think the screen res is a major issue for basic tasks especially on such a small screen.

  • Does this have USB-PD charging? And is the battery likely to last a day's worth of high school use?

    • +1

I believe the non 2-in-1 variants (which this 7290 falls under) has 1 x Barrel-type charger.
It however does have a USB-C charging slot available which allows you to charge via that port or use a dock.

      • thank you, I appreciate your response! :)

In your experience do you think the battery would last at least 3-4 hours for school use?

        • In your experience do you think the battery would last at least 3-4 hours for school use?

          When new, easily 5-6 hours
But also depends on the configuration (there's 3cell batteries and also 4cell batteries, both occupy the same cavity in the laptop and you can upgrade it easily, it's a business-laptop and made to be serviceable)

Note this is a refurbished laptop so you may need to buy a new battery to make it usable (they guarantee 80% minimum of full capacity which is fine)

          • @cwongtech: That sounds reasonable and some good info there about serviceability, thanks again!

            • @highon2str: Checking the Latitude 7290 manual..

              Go to Page 15/85
Pictured in the PDF is a 3 cell battery, but it has space for an extra cell for the right.
BNEACTTRADER doesn't disclose which battery it comes with though

              • @cwongtech: You're right! Good to know there's an option for a bigger battery. I might pick one of these refurb units up and see how it goes, it will probably need a battery soon if it doesn't already. Might run the powercfg line to check it, wonder if it will still show meaningful data after a factory reset?

I've used these Dell service manuals on my XPS 15 9500 to help me install a 2nd ssd. They're great documents! (although it didn't mention anything about buying a 2nd mounting bracket/heat sink and screw)

Might run the powercfg line to check it, wonder if it will still show meaningful data after a factory reset?

                  Yeah, it should be fine
I've noticed if you restrict the max capacity allowed to be charged via the BIOS, powercfg doesn't know this and think it's battery wear and tear

100% great documents, I wish every company did these!

  • Any 7290 with i7 processor?

  • Is it possible to get this with Win 10 Pro installed rather than Win 11 Home?

    • You can probably install Win10 Pro and it will activate.

  • What year model would these be?

    • end of 2017

  • What's the cheapest way to upgrade the storage on these.. can I shuck a portable 1TB Samsung T5 and put into it?

    • +1

      Latitude 7290 manual

      Go to Page 16/85

Looks like in the diagram it can fit a standard m2 SSD size (22 x 80)

So just look for a deal on them on OzB (Crucial P1 as an example)

Put a order this morning, 10% off, better price than OP

    • Which code did you use?

      • +1

I ordered one today using PLTTH10 and got 10% off (assume you need to have ebay plus?)

Planning to use it for work in factories (eg datalogging).
My old Asus T100 refuses to die and is great for all-day light duties.. but this should be a nice performance bump.

        • Thanks for sharing mate, I just placed an order too. Code works with ebay plus. Will be a great laptop for light work duties and portability.

  • I've received mine. All good except it doesn't have a backlit keyboard unlike my other 7290.

  • Received mine today. Other than a chunk missing from the hinge, it’s in great condition. Great purchase.

  • I received mine, but I get an error about the charger not being able to be identified every time I boot it, so it doesnt actually charge the battery.

  • +2

Just FYI everyone my machine arrived today and the corner was damaged and the bottom cover looks like it was opened and not closed back up properly.

    Will contact BNEACTTrader shortly.

    https://ibb.co/mNczLr8
    https://ibb.co/YWvvYbd

    • Wow, that's a shocker!

    • That is EXACTLY what swollen battery looks like, in that model

    • Hi All - replacement machine arrived in excellent condition. Worth noting the following:

1 - It came with 4G sim card slot but appears no 4G modem which was originally requested
      2 - It has Thunderbolt 3

I tried the Dell WD15 dock which did not work (with a 6.7amp adapter)

I tried the Dell TB16 dock which did work with 6.7amp adapter, however to get it to work properly I arranged a 240w 12.3a adapter.

So far so good with the setup.

      • Good to hear you got it sorted eventually!

  • +2

Mine arrived in what I would describe as 8.5 out of 10 condition. Cosmetic scratches near the hinge on the top and a ghosted image of where a dymo label used to live on the front screen. Tried wiping it off with IPA but clearly it's been tried previously (good on BNEACTTRADER for giving it a decent clean) and I can make out "GREG FIELD" in size 14, Ariel font where the label used to live. 😆

Inside though the screen and keyboard are immaculate. No scratches or marks. The slightest of blemishes on the palm rests but nothing out of the ordinary for a reconditioned unit.

Came with win11 and a slew of pending updates. Currently being reset before I go through the updates.

    • when you reset the laptop, we can still keep the windows license, right?
just worried that I need to buy a new license..

      • +1

yes that's right! Sorry for the late reply.

  • +2

I'm pretty happy with mine - very good condition other than a few chunks out of the rubbery bit arond the display.

It is a bit chunkier than I was expecting for a 12.5" - but I think that says more about how thin my XPS13 2-in-1 is.

It's great value and should be a handy little device.

Is anyone feeling brave enough to try a 1080p IPS panel swap? The LP125WF4 looks promising

    • I believe 7390's body is the same, If you're adventures you can upgrade to 13" screen with a bezel swap.

  • Btw try checking on latitude 7290 review doesn't seem to able to find any review.. does anyone have the review on this laptop?
