Decided to bite the bullet as i need a gpu of 300mm or smaller to fit in my case. Top tier model and i think better than the PNY posted earlier this month.

not good value
Yeah, straight up bad value. If you need something now stuck to something with a half decent fps/$. If you need Max power you are better off waiting a couple of months for the 4000 series or RDNA3.
bought my RTX3090 Stix OC for $2599 just before the price hike. very happy with it.
Damn, its not that far from the price of my first second hand car.
not far from from the price of my bedroom suite + Samsung Frame TV 43" + Sony PS5
Yeah but this GPU runs faster than your first second hand car. 😂
Hey hey…. probably true 😂
Your first second hand car would probably sell for 2x the price today compared to the price you paid for it back then.
and what he is gonna buy? push bike?
"—"Here's my story 😅
Bought a 3080 FHR on release for 1250, used it for 6 months and than sold it for $2500
Upgraded to a 3090 for $3300
Had the 3090 for 6 months and it died last week. Ended up getting a full refund and will now buy this card at $2500.
I've also managed to mine about 1 Eth during this time.
I still think you would have been better off spending half this now on a 3080/6900XT then upgrading to next gen later in the year.
But clearly you've done well anyway.@sharky_k: To be honest that was my plan and I missed out on the ftw3 3080 at 1399. My case only allows for a 300mm gpu which really limits my choices in gpus down to less than a handful of models.
@david6509: May I ask why you don't get a different case?
my first second hand car was cheaper than this and its worth way more than the 2X i paid for it
2ltr ford escort - i wish i could afford another one now, it was a fun little machinemy first second hand car was cheaper than this and its worth way more than the 2X i paid for it
My first five cars are all worth way more than what I paid for them:
Fiat 500 - $400 now worth about $25k
Ford Anglia - $200, now worth about $20k
Holden HQ Statesman Deville -$3000, now worth about $25k
Mazda RX7 Series 1 - $3000, now worth about $40k
Holden EH wagon - $800, now worth about $40kIf only I had a large garage to store them all in for 30 years…
The funny thing is, I could've just bought a large garage 30 years ago without the cars for about $10k and it'd be worth $1M+ now 😁
It's a lot of money for a GPU…. I can't justify it and hold my head up high as a Frugal bargain hunter for a few more FPS that doesn't run any more games than a lower model for a slight performance decrease… Especially knowing its so close to being knocked off the perch by next gen. However I know plenty of hardcore gamers that always want the best at any time and sink all their spare $s into it.
$2350 for me.
Soon bank will be offering GPU finance packages.
Banks are lending millions to mining businesses.
Lovelace cards do reportedly launch in July. A future RTX 4080 is very likely to outperform the RTX 3090 and cost a lot less.
Right on the first count, remains to be seen if you're proven right on the second count. Will be interesting to see how Nvidia & amd price their cards next generation given the crazy prices people were buying gpus for this generation and with inflation going crazy.
Fps/$ should certainty be better even if there is a hike to rrp.
Lovelace is a great name!
reminds me of Happy Feet Two
I also love lace.
Nicknamed the Linda…
Or … Ada.
its cute you think you have a chance of getting one. Scalpers will still exist
Jeez $2500 for a gfx… How much money are you people earning to spend this kind of cash on this 'bargain'
Everyone here is $100k+ with high yield cars.
100k isn't that much no more… Not when the average house nudges $1m
This is sadly truer everyday. Some crazies recently bought (nicely) renovated 4 bedders in north Brisbane for 1 million+
We bought in at just under 400k about 7 years ago and our old house is probably worth 700k+ right now. Absolute joke.
I invested in an $80k BMW and it yielded me excellent negative returns.
Almost guaranteed performance!
All cars are high yield atm.
Yikes I need to find myself a new job.
It’s only $2500 I bought it last year for $4-5k because I just made free money from crypto
Not free. Your risk was rewarded.
How much money are you people earning to spend this kind of cash on this 'bargain'
A bargain is relative to the regular price. If you had the chance to buy a $5M house for $2M it is still a bargain
Just know that ultra high end cards of the current generation are going to devalue the most when the next gen cards are announced and then released. All the invisible "value" built into the card's current inflated price due it being the "second fastest consumer grade GPU available" will disappear soon when it no longer holds that title.
If you played this gen well you easily could have offset the premium of the prices to net zero and more. Crypto mining or on selling cards worked a treat..definitely massively overpriced generally though.
4080 would cheaper than $2000 and way better than 3090
Bet you it would be $2500-3000.
I love my launch day 3080. Only $1199 (EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra).
4080 has 10K cores and 16GB mem and 4090 around 16K cores and 24GB mem. So if 4080 is 3K, then 4090 will be 6K? ROFL. It wont be that high unless there is another mining craze who will gobble up all the cards. I am pretty sure my comment will get negged by many who keep thinking price keep increasing proportionally to performance even if its next gen, lol.
If there is sufficient stock, doesn't sell out in 3.5 minutes and you are lucky enough to get your hands on one. :p
and waited 2 months for it to get delivered.
Yeah, I was looking at the 3000 series when they first hit Australia. Finally thought they were worthwhile to buy only a few weeks ago: 1 day before the 100% LHR unlock was announced (timing!)
eek
graph showing this "deal", value be not here when comparing to other GPUs (other than the 3090ti)
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/47948/95881/20220520_1…The top-end GPUs always have much poorer performance-per-dollar than the middle or low-end, but, man…
People buying $2500 GPUs better hope those ex-mining GPUs don't flood the market enough to restore GPU prices to sensible levels (like everyone's predicting will happen now crypto has crashed).
If this card is less than half this price in a month or two…
makes the rx6950 xt look like a steal!
6600XT such a clear value winner.
I think this is a BoastPost not a BargainPost. Great card but worst value.
3090s going on gumtree fb marketplace 1900.
$2.90 (gross) per day with Ethash.
US or AUD? before or after power?
USD before power.
Sounds about right.
Is mining still profitable ? (Power in Sydney is expensive)
Won't Proof-of-Stake kill Eth mining?
So you would have to mine some other coin ?The crash has already killed ETH mining, at least for a while.
Cheaper to sell your mining cards now since the money you can make selling them will fall over time, too.
Agreed. Mining with your gaming PC while not gaming still probably worth it, but not worth buying cards just for mining now.
Hopefully Eth price stays down for a while at least so miners send all those cards to the used market.its still quite profitable currently $1.5/day for 30mhs, last bear market it reached 25c, I was actually surprised that was the bottom as you were still breakeven with expensive au electricity…
@abctoz: So if ETH doesn't fall anymore, you're making $15 every ten days.
Looking just at bargains on here, GPU prices are already falling faster than that, since the crash.
So GPUs are losing more value per day then they can make. And that's assuming ETH doesn't fall further.
Anyone who owns a bunch of GPUs for mining is losing money fast if they don't sell them ASAP.
@ItsMeAgro: i'm just saying profitability is still
6x, actually around 75c or 3x miscalculated what they are off the lows last cycle, i'm not saying go buy a gpu to minei'm not aware of what the current batch of gpu's can do, but going off hash rates off last cycle, 8gb rx 480/gtx 1070 with samsung memory can do ~ 30mh/s @ 100w
if you managed to mine through last cycle until now, its actually quite a profitable time, relatively lol…
@ItsMeAgro: its still profitable as long as the power bill is less than the mining gain.
those who own mining rig with many GPUs most likely reached their ROI mid or late last year when mining return and crypto was at the peak.
They can sell at $1 per GPU for what its worth and still be making profit few times over.
3080 non-LHR ROI last year was only 3-4 months, Gpu price $1200, mining profit $15 a day.
@abctoz: Plus the pointless pollution. What's the cost of that?
@Ulysses31: Yeah, planet Earth (& future generations) are the real loser here…
@1st-Amendment: They lose the opportunity to mine while the difficulty is still low.
@abctoz: Yeah, so maybe profitable of you have cards, but not enough to offset new purchases, especially with Eth 2.0 merge looming
not a good value.
I do understand why people would buy one when it's just been released, the latest and greatest tax
but when it's about to become last gen, how to even justify the premium
OzBoastin'
For those who are saying 'It's not good value' — It's not about the performance in GPU bound applications, it is about the VRAM. GPU Rendering, Maya, Substance, outputting 8k or a commercial meshed display that needs more outputs etc or requires the additional memory. This is a 'deal' for those looking to buy this for workstation purposes. This is effectively a Titan card without the branding, or a Quadro card with consumer drivers/no ECCmemory.
This card is not really for gamers, they just rebranded Titan to '90 series' to capture those gamers who wanted the 'best' for bragging rights, in addition to their standard commercial/prosumer/workstation markets.
i thought the "Titan" is the Kingpin series now?
Sure — Kingpin is basically enthusiast gamer focused for those who want the bleeding edge. I doubt any workstation/prosumers are buying kingpin as it's mainly about overclocking. Higher TDPs, 12 layer PCB etc. There's of course overlap between the categories.
Generally, RTX3090 serves the old Titan market. The old titan market used to capture both the 'bleeding edge enthusiasts' where price to performance made no sense, and also the Prosumer/Workstation market who needed the extra VRAM/Cuda but didn't need ECC/Quadro drivers.
Just wanted to point out that this is a deal for some as the most upvoted comment in this deal is 'not good value'.
It is marketed for gamers?
https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/geforce/graphics-cards/30-serie…
'Game' appears more often than creative/creator.@congo: Definately marketed to gamers. They're a more profitable segment. It's poor value for gamers, no doubt. Nvidia's well aware that the primary 'useful' market of this GPU is prosumer/workstation. Was merely pointing out that this is a deal for those people.
This. People keep forgetting about the prosumer market when it comes to Graphics Cards. I guess all the Gaming Marketing overshadowed the other tasks a "Graphics Card" can perform.
It's a great deal for deep learning tasks as well, the cheapest way to have 24GB of VRAM + CUDA support.
From the 3090 whitepaper: "The GeForce RTX 3090 incorporates the GA102 GPU and is built for creators, data scientists, AI developers, and extreme gamers who want the fastest performing graphics card in the world."
You do not buy a 3090 for gaming at $2.5k when the 4070 is coming out ~2 months later (July/August) at a third of the price with ~25% more performance and call yourself an Ozbargainer. Surely you can find better ways to waste 2 grand?
Edit: Downvoters are mad they didn't HODL
Absolutely! And over 40 kiddos upvoted this deal.
I don't know how. They've got smoother brains than a koala.
Oh I see you follow Moores Law hahhahaa
4070 can kill 3090 for sure, and only cost you under $1k, 3090 is totally a joke
4070 may hit 150mh/s, making its retail around $1500.
4080 could be $1999 at 180mh/s.
LHR is like shooting on nvidia own's foot, they may scrap LHR entirely to boost sales.
Merge is supposed to be similar time to 40 series release. I certainly won't be surprised if it's delayed again, but it is likely to make miners more cautious buying GPUs. Hopefully will stop prices going crazy again.
this is strangely tempting, but eh rather wait for 3080 12gb prices to drop bit more
Someone selling a new unopened Asus Strix 3090 on FB Marketplace 1950.
Buy it…. you wont get a card, or your money back. That is a scam.
Load of rubbish many selling them cheap brand new legit.
That is an expensive bullet.
im sorry wallet, this 6th one is the last one i promise
