This is not a deal. This is purely a platform to sell advertisements and sway voters towards the political party that supports them with taxpayer funds.

This is not news, it’s propaganda.

    • +8

Don't forget the news media bargaining code… artificially creating a revenue stream for a dying industry. I thought Liberals were meant to let the market regulate itself rather than propping up dying industries.

  • +9

Thanks OP the business and market news in the Australian is a worthwhile read for nothing.

PS negging this deal on account of who you vote for pulls you down to the same level as Murdoch

    • You don't need to vote to neg this. As an immigrant, I would neg this deal due to obvious reasons of them preaching the absolutely insane great replacement theory among other QAnon theories.

  • +8

Biased misleading information on multiple occasions.

    • -3

      Evidence?

      It’s ok. I’ll wait.

      • +2

        Boom gottim

      • +5

Google it. Here's a hint to get you started: Peta Credlin apologised to Rudd over outright lies.

      • +1

Search newscorp lawsuits on duckduckgo or swisscows. Or look at some alternative news companies.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Will happily use it for the economics section of The Oz, and steer well clear of the culture wars sections.

    🤮

  • +4

No thanks, you can find this garbage elsewhere free, no need to give away personal details.

  • +5

Gutter trash, complete waste of bytes. Not many free things I wouldn't consider a deal but this is sure one of them.

  • +13

Think of how much climate change lies, pandemic misinformation and political propaganda has cost the world. NewsCorp being the world's most significant source of these things I can't help but feel that this deal is not a bargain.

    • +1

Yep can't stuff myself to any more Andrew Bolt, Rita Panahi, James Morrow rubbish in Herald Sun. You should see them on Sky News, they are so right wing it's laughable. It's like Sky News is running on a parallel universe it's so removed from reality.

      • +3

Meanwhile there is no similar thing happening at other media organisations…

        • +1

If you're trying to claim the ABC is biased left, try again. Every time the LNP investigate it for bias it comes up with nothing. They just hate the fact the ABC isn't an LNP cheer squad like Sky News is.

          • @placard: Nice try.

            • +2

              @McFly: We'll you've swallowed the lie.

              • +2

@placard: Which lie have I swallowed? I'm keen to know, what with my diet and all.

                • +1

@McFly: Ita Buttrose has been the ABC chief since 2019. She’s hard right. And guess who runs Fairfax/NINE? None other than Peter Costello. Heard of him?

You’re so opinionated but yet so intellectually lazy.

          • +2

@placard: Depends who you ask to investigate.
The ABC biggest crime is lying by omission and selective story reporting.
You can get a lot done just with those two tactics.

Sky News is private it doesn’t have to be unbiased.
The ABC is public and has a charter to uphold, it should be unbiased.

            • @Grok: Which it is, but idiots who sit only to one side can't tell that, because they get upset that the ABC isn't their echo chamber

            • +1

@Grok: They are investigated by the LNP themselves - the ones who you would think would want the outcome to be 'biased' but even they cannot come to that conclusion to their annoyance.

          • @placard: Different bias. ABC is good at treating Labor & Liberals fairly, but when it comes to social activism, their is barely a pretense of objectivism.

            • @bargaino: Well we do first and foremost live in a society, not an economy.

      • +2

Well the right is currently the majority.

        • +4

not among those who completed more than 3 years of high school

  • +9

This stuff is dangerous. In a country with mandatory voting, it's literally dumbing down the population who are FORCED to vote on the politicians who make key decisions that impact me.

    • +5

Yes, information and opinions (you don't agree with) are dangerous.

      • +6

You think denying climate change is "information"? I have "information" that there's a bridge for sale, would you like to buy it?

        • +2

Ooohh, Climate Change Denier - cast each of them into the eternal fire of damnation for all eternity!

          • @McFly: Yeah, facts aren't important, it's all "information" as you say. May as well believe the earth is flat, that too is "information". Your logic betrays you as a passionate consumer of Murdoch's wares. Do you enjoy Fox News too? Do you support the phone hacking in the UK too? Not even his own son supports him, but you do…

            • +2

@kiriakoz: I don't think Murdoch is the root of all evil so I'm a climate denying flat earther who watches Fox 24/7.
              Yeah, you got me.

              • +3

@McFly: No, you classified Murdoch's publications as simply being "information" and "opinions" that I don't agree with. I'm just seeing if you're logically consistent, it seems as though you're not.

You backed off pretty quickly when I reminded you who you were supporting there, or more accurately criticising me for not supporting.

                • +2

@kiriakoz: 'Backed off' - what? I'm not backing off on anything.
Yes, I consider any media sources information and opinion, how inconsistent of me!

                  • +5

@McFly: Well you hinted that you draw the line at Fox, why is that?

For the record, I do think Murdoch is the root of all evil. He has created the apparatus that he misinformed more people than anyone else. Propaganda and misinformation is extremely harmful. If you don't think that, you watch his crap, but don't get upset when others disagree with your opinion.

                    • +2

@kiriakoz: I second this. The right wing theories like mail-in voter fraud, great replacement theory, QAnon used to be a fringe minority with no credibility. Now half of Americans (and many Australians judging by the comments here) think that's the reality. This was amplified during 4 years of Trump and when they tried to move away after Trump lost, their rating dropped so low Rupert Murdoch himself went back to FOX to fix this and continue glorifying the base they had created for 4 years. FOX thought their viewers were only loyal to them but in those 4 years, they had become loyal to Trump and his right-wing lunatics. And like Netflix, FOX has plenty of other crazy right-wing media competition now. So at this point they can either lose most of their business or keep going to the far right. So they removed their 'fair and balanced' slogan and claimed to be 'entertainment' when sued. The damage is already done with the greater public and we are headed to such a dark era of misinformation, there is no returning back.

    • Australia does not have mandatory voting.

You are requested to go and get your name crossed off and write whatever the fork you wish on each voting form and place them in the ballot box.

How is that compulsory? You are not FORCED to vote for any politician.

      Are you perhaps misinformed?

      • Australia DOES have mandatory voting. Just because the AEC can't control what a certain clown does with their particular vote doesn't change the basic rule of law.

        • are you actually saying that if I fill out the ballot with all "1" I have broken the law?

please direct me to that actual law.

but you won't, as it doesn't exist.

          • +1

@quog: No, you misunderstood the point completely. You are free to waste your opportunity to vote, but the law is there to ensure that all people - no matter how stupid they may wish to behave in the polling place have the opportunity to participate in our democracy.

      • Here's from the Australian Electoral Commission themselves.
        Q: Is voting compulsory.
A: Yes, under federal electoral law, it is compulsory for all eligible Australian citizens to enrol and vote in federal elections, by-elections and referendums.

        That was easy.

  • +13

Getting a pile of shit for free is not a deal. Murdoch media is a cancer on society.

  • +15

    Murdoch trash. No thanks.

  • +3

    The tolerant left

    • +12

The hypocrisy. Downvotes are free speech. Why do you hate free speech?

      • +7

Some people genuinely think that "free speech" is us agreeing with everything that they say and not challenging them in any way.

    • +1

Imagine being such a snowflake that you’d feel the need to downvote a free subscription on a bargain site, because you don’t like the content that you would never have to look at.

Perfectly sums up the left in this country, a bunch of spoilt mewling crybabies.

      • +1

because you don’t like the content that you would never have to look at

I did look at Tucker Carlson's the great replacement theory in a number of episodes (apparently 400+). I liked it, would be a great Marvel movie.

  • -8

Tempted to neg as the Australian has become basically unreadable in the last year to 18 months. They’ve moved so far left I see no difference between them and the age. Only Adam Creighton has something interesting to say in my opinion. And their comment moderators put me on a watch list. Pretty despicable. Daily Tele not too bad, but all the Murdoch platforms are moving in the wrong (ie left) direction. Looking forward to new right wing alternatives to the Murdoch owned sky news and Australian newspaper developing in Australia like they have in the USA with revolver.news and the war room pandemic broadcast.

    • That's the problem with conservatism, it's always playing catch up… or maybe Newscorp is just looking out for their corporate interests.

    • +8

Lol if you think these newspapers are left then you really have lurched to the right.

  • +2

    Signed up.

    Instant regret.

  • +3

Aha, this is where my Fees go. Get us air conditioning in the bloody engineering building.

  • +7

If something like this is free, you're the product

  • +4

Excellent thanks for that. I'll enjoy being brainwashed with all the side sections like Technology, Sport, Lifestyle, crosswords, puzzles etc etc. Thanks OP

    • +1

Be careful with that. An "article" on new.com.au one told me a $65 pair of ANC headphones was as good as Bose QC35s.

      • +1

Shit. That is dangerous and misleading information 😮

  • +2

Don't give away your personal details to be brainbleached.

  • +1

Isn't exactly free if it still has adverts and paid articles with agendas.

  • +8

    LOL at the carry on.
I don’t mind some sections of the Australian, and the Curious Mail can be good for local bris event info ( or whatever you local state rag is)

Best of all , It’s free. All you whiners should hand in your ozbargain cards!

    • +1

      Finally some common sense!

  • +2

    Murdoch bullshit.

  • +2

This deal is as good as free toxic waste.

  • +3

Can’t do Murdoch press even free. They would need to pay me.

  • +1

Why not just use 12ft.io and you can read anything for free anyway without signing up and send your private info across??

    • +4

      Doesn't work on Murdoch anymore

  • +2

Don't judge the negs or uninformed but consider the Sun, which I saw in my workplace every day in the UK. Absolute gutter trash. Same owner………

  • +4

    Thanks for sharing…

I can add this free propaganda to the ones that I pay taxes for like the ABC and the SBS!

  • +1

This is not free. This is paid for by the Australian tax-payer directly, and the Australian consumer by way of exploitation. Exposing yourself to these publications is bad for your health, it is bad for democracy and accelerates ecosystem collapse.

    • +4

You forgot about the Andromeda crashing into The Milky Way thing that's also going to happen cos Murdoch.

  • +1

Amazing deal — spread it around so less people have to pay for these subscriptions lol

  • +7

Don’t poison your mind with this garbage

  • +1

    Long live mighty Kevin Rudd!!!

  • +4

Almost as bad as The Worst Australian newspaper Kerry Stokes mob publish over here in the West.

  • +2

    Yeah nahh.

  • +2

Strong right leaning neo liberal propaganda. Murdoch belong in prison for all those false and misleading articles for so so long.

  • Thanks heapsnfor the love I.t

  • Ah, free poison!

  • this is what gives free speech a bad rap

  • +1

Subscription details can be entered in Apple News app to unlock premium articles in the relevant newspapers.

  • No need for this when you can get all your quality news needs from news.com.au

    • they are (profanity) too as they block from
browsing with adblockers. 7news decent enough for me.

      • Yeah that’s the reason.

  • Usually $7/week, $364 over 12 months.

    lol. what they selling 😂

  • +9

    Young liberals starter kit?

    • +2

All you need to do is wait for a sale on some RM Williams

  • +1

    Right leaning rag trash.

  • +4

I came here for the comments made by people crying over their almond milk lattees over the harm caused by DT's hate speech. 275 unread comments to go…

    • -1

Is this latte sipping boogie man in the room right now?

      • +1

Um, not sure, have you checked under your bed?

        • Is that the truth or did you read it in the telegraph?

LNP voters are more likely to be latte sippers anyway, so that's kind of an own goal.

          • +1

@ihfree: Haven't read a word yet, too afraid my eyes might start bleeding and of all the harm that somehow will be caused by reading it. Do they have an article about the boogie man?
