This is cheaper but it's different in a way since it's an open box.

To be fair, centrecom charges $20 for shipping so that brings it to $720.

This site has it for $688 if you pick it up from Sydney or $708 with shipping.

Pretty sure www.cplonline.com.au had it for $689 including shipping when I checked this morning but for some reason their site isn't working atm.

And HN had it for $488 in the past with their $300 cashback but that's over now. =(

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. In light of this, we're reducing the price of the Acer S3 to $699. And that still includes FREE SHIPPING Australia wide.

  • RRP is only AUD999, not $1199, according to http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/model/LX.RSF02.078

    [ $697 + ~$9 = ~$706 ]

I've noticed some say its a 20GB SSD + a 320GB HDD, while others just mention 320GB HDD.

Does anyone know if its a different spec or just a poor effort listing tech specs?

    • It has a 20gb ssd.
However, it is just for hibernation, not for OS or other programs.

      • Yes I am using it now, it is just for instant startup and you cannot see it in Windows.

        • Was it worth the $488 in your opinion?
Would you have rather paid more for a full SSD or an i5 ultrabook instead?

        • My impression is that this is good because it reduces wear on the SSD. Is my thinking right?

I only use it for web browsing, checking email basic stuff. I3 and hard disk doesn't matter for me now but the battery life is the main problem, 3 cells not quite enough.

But for $488 I didn't regret it, actually I am still waiting for my cash back after received process confirmation.

If SSD getting cheaper I may replace it.

BTW after I bought my new ipad now I feel the screen on the Acer is so bad :p

        • My impression is that this is good because it reduces wear on the SSD.

Well that's true but mechanical hard drives wear out much faster than SSDs.

but the battery life is the main problem

I heard all ultrabooks needed a minimum of at least 5 hours of standard office usage to be classed as an ultrabook or is 5 hours not enough for you?

I'm on the edge of getting one.

And someone should really edit the S3 Aspire to have an i3 on that wiki page.

        • This model 3 cells cannot do 5 hrs from my experience.

After a full charge the program only say 3-4 hrs but less than that In actual use.

  • Nice lappy, nice price! What I particularly like is this:

UPDATE: In light of the pricing as posted by Ozbargainers we have reduced this from $739 delivered to an amazing $699 delivered.

Some other reps take note, that is how you respond to community feedback! Kudos Jason & Dealfox! :)

Btw OP, looks like CPL fixed their site and is back up again.
    $679 + 10 shipping.
And if you like their facebook, you can get a $10 coupon which effectively cancels out the shipping cost. Looks like you can also get a USB webcam too.

So it becomes $679 including shipping and a webcam.

  • DAM! Just bought one last night from Laptop Factory Outlet for $688 + $39 shipping = $727
I guess nothing I can do now, but still pretty happy with the price.

  • I think this is a record in terms of battery life !

"The embedded lithium-polymer battery can last up to 72 hours on a single charge, so you get great mobile freedom."

    • That's on what they call sleep and deep sleep mode, no point for that.

  • Should be able to price match at Officeworks until this deal ends.
