  • Why didn't this deal appear before???

QNAP were too busy releasing security updates to have retailers lower prices 😁

  • Hahaha 🤣

  • qnap stoped sending me Free NAS's when I stopped doing reviews for them. So I have be rocking the last nas's they gave me for a good 7 years lol I might need to look at buying one of these to replace the 2 Qnaps I have at home. (one main nas and one backup unit for backups of the first nas)

  • QNAP don't just have perpetual QVR Pro licenses, they also have perpetual back-doors for hackers.

Also it is not too smart putting your NAS on public internet.

If you're going to expose your NAS to the internet then you want to do it securely otherwise you're asking for hackers.

  • Did they end up resolving the Deadbolt ransomware?

  • Just saw the bundle of the Synology DS920+ and 2x Seagate 8TB IronWolf NAS Drives for $1,260 + shipping. Is that a decent deal?

  • Wondering if someone can help me, I am trying to set up a NAS to run my Plex server. I have currently been running on a laptop but it’s a pain to make sure the laptop is running. What would be an entry level NAS to stream.

I got a TerraMaster F2-221 from amazon a couple of weeks ago for $320 and a couple of nas hdd's from Umart, and have been happy with it so far. Only issue I had was finding the smb settings on the nas and pc to make transfering files easier.

The Plex NAS compatibilty spreadsheet certainly made comparing options easier too. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MfYoJkiwSqCXg8cm5-Ac…

This is an excellent resource thanks for sharing. Interesting to see the external GPU support, which Qnap seems to have a monopoly on.

      • I have the Terramaster F5-221 running TrueNAS 13, I added additional 8GB Ram, I found the TOS software not as polished as Synology and QNAP OS's.
I can't fault it so far. I have a QNAP and Synology NAS's as well.
A bit of fiddling to get TrueNAS on but it installed without a problem.

      • Shows Realtek 1296 as having no hardware transcoding which I think is incorrect

  • Is anyone able to explain to me the advantages of running one of these nas set ups as opposed to a dedicated desktop htpc?
At the moment I have a few hdd's (3 x 5TB) and they are full. Currently waiting for 18TB hdd's to fall in price and buy two of those. I generally keep the good movies and delete the crappy ones that I wouldn't watch again to free up hdd space as they tend to be large 20GB Hd files or 4K UHD files anywhere from 20-80GB each. Just wondering if these nas boxes will play movies in the original uncompressed untouched format or do they transcode the movies. Ultimately I want to play a movie through my avr to tv but also be able to watch a movie via my home network say on my tablet, laptop or phone. Also if possible watch a movie when I'm away from home on my tablet, laptop or phone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

power consumption is a huge advantage.

      • Does the nas use more power?

        • No, an NAS will typically use far less than a desktop
