[NSW] $4 Fish (Hoki Fillet) and Chips - Battered or Grilled @ Steve Costi's Famous Fish at Westfield Miranda

670

A meal to suit every ozbargainer budget
Generous serving too
Westfield Miranda next to Coles

Edit: They are using Hoki Fillet. As a guide, its $15 per kg at woolworths and the serving appears to be a large fillet of at least 200g , so probably cheaper to buy from here if your planning on a fishy dinner.

Mod: Fixed link to correct Costi's location (thanks Stingo)

    • Check FuelCheck for cheap petrol station.
    • Drive after 4pm, to avoid school zone penalties.
    • Park under 3-hours at Westfield, for free parking.
    • Fish & Chips for $4.
    • +4

Don’t forget about the extra free hours parking if a Westfield+ member!

    • Why would you need anywhere near 3 hours for fish and chips 😂

      • +1

30 mins to eat. 2 and half hours to go toilet after eating that fish.

    • +1

Even better, WF Miranda has free car charging

    • OMG! I am a subconscious OzB'er!

      • It's in your DNA

    • +1

Or drive to Miranda in my EV, park right near the lifts and get a free charge, 4 dollar f&p, if I feel hungry get seconds, then buy a 3rd for dinner sorted, then drive home with a full charge. Carbon offset and price offset

      • +2

Enjoy the EV while there is no 2.5 cents per kilometre tax,
for EVs, which is coming to NSW ( by 2027 )

        • +1

Been enjoying it for 6 years, here's to another 5 before I have to worry about it. The cars just about paid for itself so it's all cream from here :)

In all honesty though, the 2.5c, as stupid as it is, ain't that much compared to paying for petrol

      • +1

Maybe collect the used oil and have it recycled as bio-diesel for a polluting friend? BTW, have you figured out what each charge cycle effectively costs in its contribution to the deterioration of your battery? Even if electricity is free there is still wear and tear from driving anywhere. You must be driving heaps if the fuel savings have almost paid for the car. Would be nice if $4 Fish and Chips were available from any other Costi's. I could walk to one.

        • +1

It's not easy to figure out or project because the deterioration of the battery is not linear, however a about 2.5k per year that's 15k in petrol, plus another 500/year in servicing on average, that's about 17.5k. Picked up second hand it will easily have paid for itself before its battery is gone

  • Any cheap ticket deal to fly there?

  • More likely shark I would have thought.

    • European carp I origianally assumed.

    • +1

I'll take flake/shark over Vietnamese catfish aka 'basa' any day of the week!

      • flake/shark might have been the old Greek fissions#it shop takeaway but at least it had some texture

basa seems to turn into mush when cooked - most unappealing to me

  • My local ! Thanks OP

  • +1

theres definitely a lack of fish n chips deals on here

  • My local mall….

haven't been to Miranda Fair for ages

    Not behd good soize

  • Ozbargain meetup for the hobbits?

  • Beware that there are 2 Costi's at Westfield iranda and based on my web research the link should be to this one on Level 2. Westfield seems to have conflated the names and the phone numbers of the store together in their listing as you can see by comparing with the Costi's store listing. Reviews please!

    • Its the one next to coles

      • Yes, you wrote that above but I think the link is to the wrong store. Coles is on Level 2 isn't it? The link is to a store on Level 1. Anyway, what's the food like?

        • It was a huge piece. Definetly not basa or shark.
I would say average if you paid full price . Chips were really crispy. But $4 is def a bargain

  • -5

so lemme see - if I drive to Miranda - a 90-minute round trip, costing me $5+ in fuel, to spend $4 on fish and chips to save ? on unhealthy food I don't usually buy … yair grate !

  • -1

Nothing is worth going into that nightmare shoppin center.

  • Asked them today. They are using Hoki Fillet. As a guide, its $15 per kg at woolworths and the serving appears to be a large fillet of at least 200g , so probably cheaper to buy from here if your planning on a fishy dinner.

The coffee shop next to them (i think its called the grocery shop) has $2.50 coffee which was decent too

    • If you spend $50 at the grocery store, coffee's free!
