  • I know nothing about monitors, but seems like a good deal 🙂

    VA Panel

    • +2

      Is that bad?

      • -1

Not really - for my personal usage, it makes little sense to buy VA when IPS have become so good. For gaming, I don’t know why you’d go VA over a Fast IPS (other than cost)

Typically VA might have greater contrast ratio, but not as good colour reproduction.

        • If you want any panel for gaming buy a TN panel, if you want good colours and not super serious about the games you play buy VA, if you want Good colour and Decent response time for gaming buy IPS.
Thats usually a good key to use.

@weasel2488: Those views are quite out of date. IPS technology has improved vastly since 2018

            • @giventofly: That is true, but generally lots of companies still use cheap panels.

Pretty bad if you hate black smearing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SxJerJQdGg
Get's even worse when scrolling through a page in dark mode.

great if you play games/watch movies in a dark room though, I can't stand IPS black(grey) levels

      • +3

Both IPS and VA panels will exhibit the issues and limitations of their respective technologies to a greater or lesser degree depending on exactly which models we're talking about. And to a lesser extent, these issues can also vary between different units of the same exact model (particularly things like backlight bleed and IPS glow).

I can understand why some people swear they will never buy another VA monitor after having experienced a bad one - it's probably even fair to say that most of the VA monitors that have been released to date have not been particularly good with regards to black smearing, and viewing angles are almost always a bit worse than those of IPS screens.

That said, I personally can't stand IPS glow and find it to be far more obnoxious than the slight colour shift/washout you get with VA panels. Fat lot of good those wide IPS viewing angles will do when a few degrees of deviation to your seating position results in a hazy orange glow across like a quarter of the screen - at least the washout on VA panels is consistent, whereas IPS glow will affect affects darker content to varying degrees on different parts of the screen.

Not hating on IPS, I own several and I do like the colour reproduction etc, just wanted to offer a counterpoint to the inevitable pile-on against VA monitors every time someone asks this question :)

Even as a curved monitor where you supposedly looking at entire monitor straight, I would still not buy a VA monitor (bought once and regretted the first minute I was using it. Just a few degree deviation from your seating position can result in washed out images etc. This becomes even messy when you have to show something to someone else on the monitor). This is despite of amazing contrast they produce. To be perfectly honest, I will take brilliant colours and wide viewing angles of IPS panel over deep contrast of VA panel any day of the week. Just my 5 cents.

Hmm why TV with VA panel is good 🤔

        • +1

Cause it's TV lol. IPS advantages over VA are viewing angles, refresh rates and response times (VA capped at 240Hz compares to 360 Hz for IPS, response times usually slower than IPS panel at the same price), which is not important for TV. You don't need 1ms mrpt, 144 Hz TV (except console gaming but that's another story), viewing angle with TV is usually fixed. On the other hand, contrast is really needed on TV.
Also note that this is ozbargain, so we usually talk about budget monitor options, likely under 800 AUD or even 500 AUD. Most people prefer IPS over VA at this range, like the "everyone" favorite S2721DGF is an IPS panel. And if you only gaming with 24' 1080p 144Hz, then there are plenty options around 200-350 AUD, which is extremely affordable. VA can also offer similar specs at this price, but then the advantages of being a VA panel at this price is not that clear, or basically cheap VA panels are bad lol. Most recommended budget VA monitors are ultrawide ones (the Xiaomi, Dell S3422DWG…) which is a more specific market. Ofc, if you raise the bar to 1k AUD and over, good VA options are there, and choosing IPS or VA will depends on what you want, rather than just a simple conclusion IPS > VA.

          • @Masticccc: If your budget is $1500 then of course there will be better VA panels but I would have thought an equally impressive IPS panel would also be up there (which would obviously be my choice if I'm willing to pay that amount for a monitor that is 😊)

            • +2

@npnp: Again, it's a matter of taste when you choose between high quality IPS vs VA, there are aspects that VA are always better than IPS (and vice versa).
As an IPS fan myself, I still don't like the fanboyism of IPS panel. When I see a TN or VA deal, there will be people rambling "get IPS" like a robot lol. Maybe it's right in that case, but newbie will get the impression "IPS always superior" and that bias will follow them all the way. Choose the monitor for your need, not for your community opinion.

Panel type in title please (VA)

Hey Mong - you're doing a great job from my point of view. But do you do all this searching whilst doing your day job?
If so, can I have the same job as you, please?

    • +9

Thanks. Pretty much I'm fortunate enough to WFH with a minimal workload so I multitask whilst finding deals

      • +1

Lucky you. I'm WFH with maximum workload. How do I get your job :-D

        • +7

I ask myself the same question

      • "multitask"

  • Can not do a price beat/price match at Officeworks. Different model that they sell.

Also Officeworks don’t have an SSD HDD included!

    • Thanks updated. Didn't even notice the model number

If it was the same model number you could price match the monitor without the SSD for $589 at OW

    • Officeworks loves to weasel out of price matching by getting custom model numbers from the manufacturer.

  • I paid $499 for this monitor from JB hi-fi just last month so this deal is not bad

  • hoping to find a 24" widescreen….
    LG used to do one,
but now seem impossible to find.
    sigh.

  • Dimension without Stand (W x H x D) = 21.3" x 12.7" x 2.2"

    VS

    Dimension without Stand (W x H x D) = 24.6" x 14.8" x 2.1" - you can fit 3 documents on the 1 screen.

It fits in a suitcase carry on.

  • It’s $499 in Amazon without ssd
