what's the best spec of router that supports OPENWRT?
Netgear R7800
https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/e8450 Linksysy E8450/Belkin RT3200. Can import from US via eBay.
Otherwise Xiaomi AX3600. Not official (yet) but an extremely stable beta build is available @ https://forum.openwrt.org/t/adding-openwrt-support-for-xiaom…
what is the advantage of openwrt?
Open source so updates occur more frequently and for longer, increasing device longevity.
Secondly, it removes the risk of vendor's lax security and monitoring (spyware).

It went smoothly, with a couple of notes:
Now wishing that I'd ordered 3.
also redmi ax6s (ax3200), but you need to get the chinese version, not the global xiaomi ax3200 version https://openwrt.org/toh/xiaomi/ax3200
around US$60 on aliexpress
holy cow, it feels like it wasn't that long ago you had to pay almost $300 for this kind of performance/features. does this model have any catch?
16mb flash - so can't install a lot of big packages.
Sounds pretty cheap, but is a cheap mesh system better?
