It's basically a glorified version of a notepad.

In the same way a BMW is just a glorified car? It's better quality, which gives a better experience to their target market. If you enjoy writing, then spending money on writing implements is worth it to you.

In the same way people spend lots on cars, houses, food, travel/hotels, etc. Better quality for a better experience.

        No. Completely different.

it's better quality than a normal notepad but it's not that much better.

          So like a BMW.

          • @smartazz104: haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

      • These are just mass imported at a really cheap price and a company just prints their brand on it. It is no where near as high quality/worth as you may think it is. The difference doesnt justify such a high mark up for a "better experience". I have a ton of these without the brand.

        • Rhodia is a stationery company that makes its own paper. Well technically they got bought out by another paper mill company (Clairefontaine) but I am sure they still make their own paper.

You can be sure that Rhodia is at least fountain pen friendly. Fountain pens are picky with what paper works well with them. I don't think anyone would use fountain pen unless they use them as a part of a hobby, so I think whether a paper works well with fountain pen really matters little unless you fall under that niche group.

A fountain pen friendly paper doesn't necessarily make it nicer to write with other writing instruments, so… frankly speaking I think it's a very niche product.

Rhodia notebooks are the best. I was a long time Moleskine user until I bought a Lamy ink pen through one of those ozb deals and the ink would just bleed everywhere. This is a common issue reported online if you Google it and one of the posts suggest to try Rhodia as their paper is different. I bought one from Milligram Outlet and this is the only brand I use now. This is not the cheapest price for a standard Rhodia notebook, but this one has a specialty function so not directly comparable.

  • Cheaper at Amazon with prime free delivery (and I think still free delivery without prime?)

  • If you use fountain pens, you need to use paper that can handle the ink. It's difficult to get something that you can guarantee that would work (especially given that how a lot of cheap papers tend to vary), Rhodia is one of the brands that you can kinda buy without worrying too much since they use a specific paper that works well with fountain pens.

Work well as in, when you use a fountain pen to write things on it, it doesn't usually feather, ghost, or bleed. Whether you enjoy writing with it probably depends on your preference a lot more, but at that point, you would likely consider Rhodia as a cheaper option (Tomoe River and other "fountain pen friendly papers" tend to be more expensive)

  • Haven’t used the paper notebook for at least 10 years.
