  • Does the UK version present any difficulties for an Australian user?

    • I have no Idea. I posted here hoping someone may know the answer. I am not a very techie techie guy.

This phone supports all 4G and 5G frequency bands currently in use in Australia, so you won't have a problem with signal.

For those who want to avoid the oversight and drag from Xiaomi (MIUI), Google etc, this phone doesn't have a working custom recovery or ROM yet, so you'll be stuck with the factory ROM with all the bloat from the aforementioned companies for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for doing the legwork here.

I always compile my own ROM's, but I admit it's been a long time since I've tried to extract driver and firmware from Android devices, so I'm usually just modifying existing AOSP projects.
As soon as one's available, I'm in.

Did you happen to notice if the bootloader was unlocked, so development can happen?

        • +1

All Xiaomi/POCO phones can easily be bootloader unlocked with the MI unlock tool and going through the mandatory wait period/s. You can check https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/ for the released MIUI ROM/firmware versions while we wait for a custom recovery/ROM, but that's about it atm.

So long as thats working now.
I went through 4 different models back in 2017; 2 never got replies, and 2, the replies were incorrect unlock codes.

            If it's working now, win-win.

I think the better phone and deal is the Poco F3 for $442.25 https://www.amazon.com.au/Poco-F3-Smartphone-DotDisplay-Snap…

    • +1

Yes, even though it misses a band. But I got X4 for my mom and I think its already an overkill for her use and cheaper by 100 bux. I just aimed at a 5G phone hoping we have affordable 5G in 2 years time.

I think the x3 Pro is a better deal. Such a downgrade on the processor.

      • But it does lose the 3.5mm jack, and the card slot.

      • where to buy an x3 pro for a decent price?

        • $350 at Aliexpress last time I looked.

      • You're not wrong:
        X3 Pro: Snapdragon 860, Adreno 640
        X4 Pro: Snapdragon 695, Adreno 619

Why do they dilute their brand by releasing a phone under the same model name a year later with much worse specs? Are they trying to be the new Samsung or the new HTC?

        • +2

          Chip shortage probably.

Or maybe the X3 was too close to the F3 and the Note 10 pro, so they need to spread out the specs a little?

        • All the other specs have been increased, the CPU is the only downgrade.

          • @DaTa: Yeah not so much, both CPU and GPU are miles better, but also:
            X3 Pro: Gorilla Glass 6, 4 cameras, dual flash, 4k @ 30fps, 5160 mAh battery
            X4 Pro: Gorilla Glass 5, 3 cameras, single flash, 1080 @ 30fps, 5000mAh battery

The X4 has 5G, that's about the only improvement.

            • @Piers: Compare the x4 with xiaomi note 10 pro then also same price as x3.

    • What price do you think the F4 will launch at?

  • -1

Has anyone got the F3 working easily with Telstra/boost wifi calling? Anecdotally there were successes with the x3 pro

  • My Xiaomi mi11 has nearly no bloat

  • Need a phone with notification LED. Sucks how they don't have them anymore.

    • If you have an OLED or AMOLED screen (It would work on LCD, but you'd drain your battery as it's a whole screen on), then you can get this feature back with 'NotifyBuddy'.

It just blinks in the corner, just like the notification LED.

      • Oh! Good to know. Thanks!

      • I do use notify buddy but still drains the battery. Led notification lights need a come back.

        • What wattage do you measure from lighting a small section of OLED like that?
The drain should be lower than a traditional LED.

  • 6gb is probably fine for now?
But I do wish the 8gb version reaches sub $400…

    • Depending on what you use it for. If you are not gaming and not using more than few apps at a time, 6 gb should be enough for next few years.

      • what about mining?

        • I think I know a person in the GPU threads who knows about it well. I will ask him and let you knw!

  • I bought the blue one.

I've been looking for a phone to replace my embarrassing 2018 Huawei, where the main camera feature is being out of focus. I'm a light phone user & this should propel me into the modern era! I also wanted to have some sort of parcel tracking/vendor backup with Amazon Prime & not go through aliexpress.

    • Cheers, I ordered the same one. Might port the gcam though as the default cam is ok only.

  • Has anyone who ordered one had their item shipped yet? Mine still says "preparing for shipment" after a week. I've never had anything bought from Amazon take so long before being shipped

    • +1

I already recieved mine 2 days ago and set it up for my mom. It came with MIUI 13 but was very slow, but there was a new update, after updating it, its very fast.

      • Dunno what's going on with mine then

        • +1

I had ordered just few hours before posting this thread and it was blue color. Just give it time, amazon usually makes sure it reaches within time.

          • @[Deactivated]: I just went on live chat and they said it hasn't been shipped but will arrive between Monday and Thursday. Not sure why mine is taking much longer

            • @Redflanders: Did you eventually get yours? I ordered one last week and it's been sitting at "preparing for shipment" still. Never seen this occur with Amazon UK who are usually quite fast to ship.

  • Any idea how the warranty works?
