looks to be the Oxo cheap range, mostly no good for cast iron with the plastic tips.

    • What plastic tips? Do you mean the silicon?

      • The heat-resistant nylon and silicone tools

        • This! Good grips stuff is great BUT if you cook on high heat using cast iron the spoons and spatulas are pretty crappy

@Gunnar: If you are using high heat, and cast iron, you don’t use silicon and nylon utensils; you use wooden ones or wok tools.

My mother learnt that lesson the hard way. She had a stash of lamb fat she kept in the fridge for deep frying potatoes, chips, etc. She would pour it off and render down fat she got from the roast to replace. One day she decided to use a plastic slotted spoon to take the chips out. That was the fat of ten years that had to be thrown out. She had to start, again, from scratch.

I’ve got wooden spatulas including some great olive tree ones.

@try2bhelpful: I know, I learnt that the hard way as well 😉 I now use wooden and SS (tongs) on my cast iron

As someone who has confit oils like that, I feel your Mum’s pain

              • @Gunnar: The best chips, and roast potatoes, are done in lamb fat. Although, it might explain my dad’s first heart attack at 50. However the smokes were, probably, the bigger culprit.

            • @try2bhelpful: Did she make soap as well ? if so your mother may be leading a double life !

              • +1

@ZeeFlyingMonkey: Right now she is fish food. We released her ashes into the bay about 15 years ago.

She didn’t make soap, but you are now giving me flashbacks to Rocky Horror Picture Show; my parents had one of those electric knife thingies as well.

  • I've spent this much buying parts of this individually, decent quality

    Nylon melts….silicone is good tho

  • Go in person, the online order process is trash. Good luck getting a refund if they run out of stock.

If you don’t need the full set then it is worth looking at the Corelle outlet stores at DFO. They usually have Oxo products on special as well.

About 15 years ago, I bought a Fissler German utensil set. From memory I paid $300, still going strong.

I wouldn't expect nylon parts of this oxo set to last…up-vote for the price though.

  • The reviews for the shipping on this store are atrocious which have held me back from ordering from this store. Has anyone had a positive experience?

  • This a joke?

  • Shun Kaji Hollow-Ground Santoku Knife for $198.95 (supposedly down from $399.00) seems kinda good as well … if only I had the Kaji set rather than the premier !
