I missed out on the AliExpress anniversary sales where there were tablets galore, but thanks to the groundwork laid by super member Clear providing a solid foundation of understanding of what was good on the budget end, I do know this is one of the good budget options, and that it's a good buy at this price based on recent previous deals. Only USD$5 more than the previous low posted on OzB. I now will be moving on from my trusty Nexus 7 2013 with a cracked screen and non functioning auto-rotate.

Edit; Shout out to Clear again for mentioning the coupon code BG59bafe in the comments below. Good for 30 units.

  • This or Galaxy Tab A8 10"? I have 2019 version of Tab 10" for one of the kids and pretty happy with it. I bought mine new for $200 from Samsung back in the days but new A8 costs almost twice as much =(
How do these budget brands compare?
I don't need LTE etc, just a solid performer with good screen and enough power to get through another 3 years

    • I was in the same boat but got lucky with an Amazon flash sale on the A8, they had an option for the 4G 128G at $249 so I price beat at Officeworks. The teclast is superior in components but the updates and local warranty swayed me towards the Samsung.

      • Yeah, I saw the old sales on OZB =( too late now

Most complaints towards the Teclast tabs are towards the battery and quality controls of the charging ports over 1 year time.
Its really a matter of luck with Teclast…

        • Yeah I didn't want to comment on build quality as I haven't had any experience with teclast.

          • @Spendmore: I am happy with the performance, even for an old tab running old systems, but the power control is never as good as the "better" options due to the "ordinary" quality control.
But for that price range, you have to select either side.

Good find and a very good tablet. You can get it for US$179.99 (~A$242.72) if you apply coupon BG59bafe at checkout. The coupon is limited to 30pcs.

Gah, if I had only known this even just a few hours ago, I'd have saved myself $7.

Rip Nexus 7. What a device!

    • Still my daily driver for bedtime YouTube and basic web surfing. The touchscreen doesn't work above the screen crack, but still I would have kept using it if not for the fact my 5yo is into Minecraft. It looks to be under 20fps just from eying it, and the aforementioned touchscreen issue makes it difficult using the in-game menus.

  • Review here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc5PehWpPDk

Please note the bezel is thicker than what you see in the rendered pics. Also, I can confirm no updates from Teclast (I have a different model).

    • I got 3 ota updates so far.
But they come thru this proprietary update app, which is a little weird.

      • +1

They use the green Wireless Update app to push them out. The built in 'Check for updates' within Android requires updates to go through Google, so it's far easier to use the 3rd party app to push updates.

Please note, no Widevine L1 on this tablet so Netflix can only be viewed in 480p…..yuck. Apart from this, the tablet looks excellent for the price.

    What’s Teclast quality like?

After reading great reviews I bought a jumper ezbook laptop a few years back and it was an absolute dog. Poor build and constant hardware/driver issues and faults.
Got it replaced (postage at my expense) and the 2nd one was even worse.
Dealing with the Chinese retailer was a waste of time and money.

    Have things gotten any better?

I got both the Teclast T40pro and the Alldocube 40H…

I feel the Alldocube has slightly better build, even tho its all plastic compared the alloy Teclast.
I find the speakers on the Alldocube sounds alot better, which is important to me coz i mostly watch video with mine.

However I havent seen a single firmware update on the Alldocube in the past 6months ive had it.
I think there was some newer firmware on the website, but i think you need to load it by SDcard, and i cant be bothered with that.

The Alldocube also has this weird issue with Mesh WiFi, where it rejects the password when u roam to a different wifi node in your home. But this isnt an issue if your dont use Mesh WiFI or just hang around one node. Alldocube support blames Randomized MAC, but thats nonsense.

Boths tablets are pretty snappy and have been pretty solid so far, they havent been any less reliable than say my Samsung Galaxy A.

The screen on the Teclast is slight brighter (at max).
But the screen on the Alldocube can go much dimmer (at min), which is important to those that use their devices in the dark.

I got mine last Thursday just before the Easter Long Weekend which was perfect timing. I've been reading a lot of bad reviews about PFLogistics but they came through for me.

The tablet is pretty good for $250. It's replaced my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 which I use as my car headunit for Waze GPS Nav and n7player for music. With the extra inches of screen realestate I can splitscreen my 2 main apps which looks pretty swanky.

Since the T40 Pro has a SIM card slot I can retire my USB dongle, 1 less device to power.

    • Out of curiosity, how long did it take for yours to arrive. It's been 10 days since I ordered, so it'd be nice to have an idea as to whether I'll be waiting another 10, or if it might be even 20 or more.

      • I ordered on or close to the day the deal was posted, which I just realised was not this post but another one :) The other post was on the 23/3 or 24/3, and I received it on the 14/4 (Brisbane). It was within the Expected delivery date: 2022-04-12 ~ 2022-04-24

Here's the full tracking details from banggood but PFL tracking page gave a bit more information, but not much more.

        • I see. I am at the "flight will take off soon" stage. It's somewhat amusing that there was a 9 day gap for you between "flight will take off soon" and the next step. Seems like there may be a different definition of soon in China.

Just wondering, how do you mount your tablet to the head unit? I'm thinking of doing the same but haven't found a good solution for that yet. Thanks.
