Alright. The phone with crazy sinking value last month is now $0 on Vodafone's $29 CAP (it was $5 on $29 CAP last month)), on 24 months contract with 1 month of free access. Use coupon 25CREDIT also gives you $25 credit.

So, the over all cost over 24 months would be:

$29/month x 24 - $29 free month - $25 free credit = $642.

That compares well with $418 out right delivered from Kogan + LiveConnected/TPG super value plans over the same period of time. However,

  • Yes, it's Vodafone (pro or con depending on your reception)
  • 24 months contract
  • You get the Vodafone build, rather than yakju build (but possible to flash other ROM)

But

  • You don't have to fork out $418 outright.

Yes I know Samsung Galaxy S III is about to be released. Spec is a bit underwhelming actually — still pentile AMOLED display just with a quad core, which makes Galaxy Nexus still a good buy :)

Edit: Oh, don't forget the cashback from Buckscoop/StartHere which would make it a even better deal.

Bad deal. No matter how good the inclusions are, I don't see why you would pay $29/Mo when for $11/Mo (2.5x less $) you get MORE credit and MORE data.

Paying $29/Mo for $180 credit and 200MB data is outrageous

    LiveConnected Tribe 11 Plan - $11 x 24 = 264
    (inclusions - $500 credit, $500 credit to LC phones + 1.5GB data)

    Galaxy Nexus - $420

    Total = 264 + 420 = $686

Buying the phone outright with the LiveConnected Tribe 11 plan would only work out to be $40 more over 2 years

However, you're getting 5x more credt and 7x more data

Plus, there's no lock in contract, and you're not stuck on Voda for 2 years.

I have to agree. I sign on a 24mth contract for the Nexus S because I thought it was a good deal for the phone. After that prices of phones drop so quickly that it does not make sense to get locked into a 24 month contract. When my contract expires, I will go with liveconnect or TPG or Amysim.

The only positive is 24 months of warranty. Even at that it is a small consolation.
I did get a cool number though.

this deal will be good for someone who WANTS to be on Vodafone for 24 mths

      • becos live connect is on the no no Optus mobile network, very limited 3G coverage in brisbane suburbs area.
great for voice only and great 2G coverage.

        • no no Optus mobile network

          Lol what, so is Virgin.
I'm standing right next to my friend (on Voda) and my phone has full reception (Virgin, on Optus) and he doesn't have a single bar.. Could be the phone (iPhone 4 vs my Sony Xperia x10i)
But to me, "Vodafail" name still holds true.

Paying $29/Mo for $180 credit and 200MB data is outrageous

Yes it is outrageous. But you get the phone for free so it's apple and orange. And there are people who don't need to have lots of minutes and data but still want to have a nice phone?

Do note that LiveConnected has $20 Starter Pack fee. So for the first month you are paying $420 + $20 + $11 = $451 rather than $29, which is the attraction of going with a plan.

      • Yes, I agree.
I always DO NOT agree to just buy a phone by paying ($4xx - $5xx) and join any carrier then.
Or I can say you buy a phone and do not use it (put it in your drawer) then all your cost will be just the cost of the phone.

Join a contract to get the phone for free (a sort of).

Mobile phone / plans newb alert…

Wouldn't the Voda deal would work out ok for someone like me who has almost all my family and friends on Voda / 3?

The Live Connected plan would give me about 15 minutes a day of calls a month, but Voda is unlimited?

      • +1

I'm with Voda for that reason. I spend heaps of time calling Voda people, but hardly use any of my quota for non-Voda calls. So getting lots more minutes with a different provider may not be worthwhile for me.

      You neg isn't valid.
Find the phone on a better plan for a cheaper price and then neg the deal. I do agree with your comments though and thank you for breaking it down but it's still not a valid neg.

    • One plue with Vodafone is unlimited calls to Vodafone ( Very imp if all friends and family are also on Vodafone)

the fact that you the price has dropped for a phone after YOU commited to a contract that was, at the time, best value. does not make it any less value. If you had paid outright at that time, you would've gotten the phone at the best price available, but the price will still drop after you have purchased it.

spreading the cost over a period of time makes it easier for people who cannot come up with the $400 - $500 needed to purchase a new phone out right.

edit- forgot to mention, buckscoop offers $100 cash back this probably wont work in conjunction with the $25 credit. So that's another $75 off the total cost of the phone.

  • as reminder, they're not offering free social networking access anymore. you need to pay another $5/mth to get unlimited social networking. it's not worth it to stay with voda anymore ( I got 2 mth left ).

  • Scotty, i dont not want to 'flush other ROM' on my nexus. :p

    • Ha. I believe I have made that mistake before… Fixed.

      meaning u want to? dont not = negative + negative = +

  • Its an ok deal..

Galaxy Nexus is a pretty overrated phone, the only thing it had going for it was ICS which other phones now have. I know some will rip into me saying its the best phone ever but I was very disappointed with mine.

    • You forget, it will be the second phone to get the next Android release.

      • I understand people wanting the latest and greatest version but I would prefer to wait and have it on a better device.

Most android updates these days arnt really anything to rave over. Most of the stuff changed in ICS was cosmetic which I couldnt care less about.

    • Galaxy Note FTW!

  • and i JUST signed up for the s2 for the same price (minus the 25 coupon and such) :(

    • it's ok alot of people say s2 is much better than the nexus, there's big debates online but it's for you to decide

    • The SGS2 is a great phone and depending on what you're doing with it, it's sometimes a better phone.
Worst case, call up and cancel the SGS2 contract. They would surely do that for you.

    • may i ask, how you got sgs2 free on 29$ plan?

  • +2

Yes it is outrageous. But you get the phone for free so it's apple and orange. And there are people who don't need to have lots of minutes and data but still want to have a nice phone?

Yes, I see your point. But the fact that Voda only include $200 credit on a $29 cap, when on there prepaid 30 cap they have $450 credit and 500MB data, is outrageous.

Also, alot can change in 2 years. If you're using a Nexus, you're probably gonna want a decent amount of credit. If not, then they probably don't need a Nexus. better off getting a Galaxy W for $250 and going on a LC tribe 8 plan ( still as much credit as Voda LOL)

    • Are you paying for a phone on ur prepaid cap?
