  • has anyone have a review of of this brand? cheap but it's only 15". Even my computer screen is 19".

    • There's some user reviews on the DSE website, click the provided link and then go to the review tab.

        DS Reviews:
"I bought this TV to mount up high on a kitchen cupboard and found that I had to tilt it downwards as the picture was too dark, also if you are viewing from an acute angle from the side the picture goes dark.
We are in a good signal area but occasionally due to rain or heat haze 1 or more channels drop out. We never had this problem with the old TV and STB."
        and
        "Signal gain was weak,
picture has a very narrow viewing angle and it
did not store saved channels with full power off." Returned.

So only good for strong signal areas & viewed straight on at eye level.
Won't suit my kitchen, as viewed from different angles as move around, and signal strength may not be strong enough.

        Specs:
        Anternna input x 1, AV input x 2, AV output x 1, Component input YPbPr x 1, HDMI input x 1, Earphone out x 1, VGA input (15 pin) x 1 and USB 2.0 Port x 1.
        Sound Output 2 x 2W
        Power Consumption Max 30W
        Stand By 0.5W

Response Time 25ms - not much use as PC monitor or fast TV

  • These have very weak tuners, just like those 7" portable TVs that DSE sells (probably the same guts). We could not pickup the Nine or ABC streams here, though we have perfectly good signal strength on our other TVs and PVRs.

  • Might get this for the kitchen & mount it on the wall/cupboard.
Will replace the same size CRT TV screen + STBox. And that SD STBox cost $59 years ago!
Plus adds PVR function - to play back those cooking shows!!

  • Agree if you have a old CRT and STB, this would make a much neater and space saving unit.

  • 1 hour deal? 15.5" TV for $58? grabs popcorn This'll be good…

    +$9.95 delivery charge

    • Currently shown as Click & Collect available (free pickup)

      • yes, but not for $58

        • Yes - thats why I said 'currently' - but not available during sale!

      • Make sure you are selecting the web only model as they have the product listed twice.

GE6801WEB which is available on-line only, whereas GE6801 is available in store. The link above points to the later catalogue number.

        • Using either the GE6801 or GE6801WEB still only has it for $98 right now.

        • At 7.00 the price changed……………

  • Checked this out instore. Manager could not believe I was interested in buying it, as there had been a lot of complaints. Even at this price he recommended against it! (From experience, I trust his advice.) Major issues - viewing angle & image quality.

Now I understand why a DS review recommended it - they were using in a caravan. No problems viewing down length of caravan - everywhere is close to direct on to screen. But in a normal situation, viewing angle is limited to near straight on.

Another reviewer complained that the screen was dark if viewed from below. This is the major issue. Position the screen to be viewed eye level for best result.

Picture quality is marginal (only viewed DVD via AV IN - not a great test!!).
    Could not test signal strenghth.

So great for a small caravan! PASS!

  • Just got one - $67.95 inc. postage. Will be good for a telly for my sons bedroom!

    • Got one for $65.05 with staff discount. Going to use it with a RaspberryPi, a $38 computer from Element14. Mine should be arriving at the end of June.

I'm going to load up a $6 8GB USB stick that I got from here a few days ago with a bunch of kids movies in .avi as it plays them directly, should keep him happy!

        • Using it as a PVR (+ TV)- it represents good value at a price just a little more than a DS STBox with PVR function. (USB access is little awkward - at the back & directed downwards with all the cables.) Hope the kiddies enjoy it! (PO has 2x 8GB for $11 if you need more.)

This set is utter garbage. Be warned.

As Bruce mentioned above even a DSE manager could not believe someone wanted to buy one!!

At the other extreme… the DSE 6607 @ $149 + free delivery 18.5" - incl dvd is a brilliant set, great picture, strong tuner and good dvd player.

    • Its all a matter of money. I am sure many who bought at this rediculous price are willing to live with the limitations of this set, rather than pay $90 more for a better, bigger one. As Baker is using it as a PVR - it represents good value at a price a little more than a DS STBox with PVR function.

Hope they enjoy their purchase. But after seeing it, I decided my old CRT with STBox was far superior (for my purposes) to this TV. No viewing angle or tuning issues (poor signal strength & loses all tuning if turned off at power point) with a CRT TV!

Just an update as I've now got this installed on a little wall bracket - don't know what others were talking about, viewing angle is fine/no worse than other LCD's, and it's a great little unit. Very happy with the purchase.

The only reason I can think for the bad reviews is either a previous version of the TV, or perhaps people thinking that it was something that it wasn't (i.e. a little, cheap, TV)?

    • I tried it in the store, compared with other ($100+ more than sale price) models & there was a definite issue with viewing angles not seen on other models. Manager pointed out issues & said don't buy it as there had been many dissatisfied customers! Was told it was current model as they had just renovated TV section.

Was on an upper shelf & screen was almost black viewed slightly from below. Passable direct on, but lacked some detail. More than 40 degrees horizontal off that & started going black again. But if you are used to older technology screens, it may suffice. Thats why I warned about the issue. It was a trade off for a great price.

(I decided to stick with the existing few year old $50 ac/dc CRT TV with same screen size (4:3 though) & STBox - not as convenient or small, but the viewing angle is not an issue in a kitchen where you move around standing or sit off centre to TV. I can wait for a better quality screen.)

Glad you are happy with it - thats all that matters!
Good to get a user's review.

I've got mine running on a Selby Acoustics little TV mount, which has tilt. I've got it aimed towards my sons bed, and it's also fine if I stand up to watch it. Does what I need perfectly :). To be honest, if you were going for a kitchen one I'd suggest 19" plus!

But generally speaking, very happy for the price, and perfect for what I want! It's also VERY light!!

        • Good point - a bigger size would be nice. The others in the house are 42" & 50". Was checking this one out as the similar size CRT has been fine as we don't really watch much TV in kitchen. And it was a great price.
          Good feedback!
