GENERAL UPDATE:
According to comments on this listing We still believe its a great offer for ozbargain users , yes we know that its not fast as latest ones or an ipad of course, technology moved and our expectations are really high as well but please where can you get a photo frame with music player or a digital clock 7" or a calculator, Whats the cheapest price for Kindle? $35 you can use it as Kindle and on the side you can defiantly use it for other basic things as mentioned.

Hi There, Thanks for the link, its refurbished item and no australian support so it your call on that one, Our one is new and comes with warranty

  • +5

Yeah, it's slow to the point of almost being unusable. I had a similar tablet (may have been a rebadged Pioneer, who knows). What you could do with it: Read basic text. Use it as an alarm clock. Play with the Android operating system before deciding to buy a usable tablet. That's pretty much it.

  • apparently these are made by Shuttle (the mini-pc people) under the base name "P10AN01" and they are also sold in the uk under the advent-vega name. or my google-fu is off its pickle tonight.

android market can be added to the advent-vega so maybe it can be added to this as well.

    see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848718

might be ok to get one for sh!ts and gigs…

  • +8

Guys.. I know its cheap and all but i've had terrible android tablets in the past, and this is what you'll get..

      0:33 - Awkward…

I see you uploaded that 2 years ago…

Did you upload the clip? And if so, how much did it cost you then???

  • +5

Would be fun to make your own "Will it blend?" video.

    • "Now, don't breath this!"

  • Make it $20 and I'll bite.

  • +1

I am tempted to get some for school. I currently teach a Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 combined class. Surely this would be suitable for them to use as eReaders, listen to audio books and do simple online math games (or perhaps math apps from the Store)?

has.clearance - Is there a better price for buying in bulk? If so, how many units would I need to purchase?

    Cheers

    • +7

Lol you might want to buy 1 first to try it out.

    • +1

I wouldn't do it, itwould just lead to frustration for them - and you.

And also they promised to provide 6 months warranty on these units

Can anyone confirm please that when bigw had them they had a 12 month warranty?

    • LOL, imagine little fingers stabbing on a resisting resistive screen

    • +1

$35 Delivery is a Great deal and i wish we can go lower than that but unable to do it , Thanks

    • +3

Surely this would be suitable for them to use as eReaders, listen to audio books and do simple online math games (or perhaps math apps from the Store)?

      No!

These are NOT suitable for children, or your mum or dad, or anyone else for that matter.

      These things are genuinely useless.

      Do.Not.Waste.Your.Money!

    Hi has.clearance.
Can you make $20 pick up? If yes, please send me the address then I will come

    • +4

      $30 Pickups , Thanks

      • +1

$20 bucks, without the box, thanks?

      • $15 pick up thanks

  • Thinking of getting one and using it as a digital photo frame. Would this work? What is the resolution?

    • If you prefer a real one for $49: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69054

    • 800x480. I actually kind of liked the screen, the only positive thing I can say about it really. It should work quite well as a digital display, the way the powercord pokes out doesn't make it look too pretty though IIRC.

  • Sweet What a bargain!
Looks like I've got myself a super cheap ebook reader! - thank you sir.

    • Battery life 20mins with the light on minimum.

      • +2

Better do a speed reading course!

  • +4

From my personal experience, I bought it from Big W just for kicks and to see if I would get any benefit out of a tablet. I can't say I got any joy out of it, the touch screen was horrible to use. A mate at work was thinking about getting one, he offered me $40 for mine, and on moral grounds I couldn't accept $40, so I gave it to him for $20…

    • And so the true price for this product was set: $20!

    • +4

and he sold it to someone else for $10? gave it to his dog? uses it as a coaster?

      • I would have used it as a Frisbee for the dog. Would have been interesting watching it barely playing a video while the dog retreives it in its salivating mouth.

      • coaster would be good choice!

  • Hi has.clearance,
Can you please fixup my ebay purchase #261015470909. I've been invoiced $49 instead of $35.

    • +2

We have sent you cancelation form for $49 one as ebay does not allow us to discount on invoice when its free postage sorry , Please use make offer button and we will accept it , Thanks

    OzBargain Feature suggestion:
Allow voting negative for a deal without commenting whenever Pioneer and Dreambook appear in a listing, no matter what the price.
As per previous Dreambook "Deals", this is a piece of rubbish tablet, not worth wasting the earth's resources to manufacture!

  • This has a resistive screen, and I'm negging it on that basis. Resistive screens are no longer where the technology is at: we have moved on and our expectations for ease of use, processing capacity and battery life are now much higher. Resistive screens are the tablet equivalent of wooden wheels on modern cars: sure they worked really well at one time, and to a certain extent they still do the job. But they're not attractive now, at any price.

I know it's cheap, but technology has moved on and I feel that this amounts to dumping of old and obsolete stock. Furthermore, no seller wants to see old stock again, so I'd say good luck on getting your money back if things go south.

    • +7

The whole point of this is that it is OLD technology and hence the cheap price. Take it or leave it, that's the deal here isn't it? If you think you can use it then buy it, if not then don't do it.

You have only 7 days to return it, so think carefully. I am!

  • +2

Wow, with all the neg experiences, I'll have to seek out a Youtube video to see how bad it really is. Poor rep, stuck with useless stock.

    • +2

I don't think they are stuck with the stock, maybe they have been offered a deal, on commission, from Pioneer Computers to sell as many as they can.

      • +2

As we have explained this before we are a Clearance Centre for electronics, time to time we get deals like this one here and make it available for everyone from unbeatable prices

        • -2

Hey Rep, Would you please be able to make it $25 incl delivery, if I pay by Bank transfer, just to save u bit of money on paypal fees and also out of ebay

    • A search turned up nothing newer than Android 2.1 custom ROMs. So it can't even be used for hardware hacking to become a UI for a USB device, which require the USB features in 2.3+. Otherwise I'd be tempted to offer $10 for it.

  • +4

Am really tempted to get this just to use it in the bathroom, but after reading all the negative comments I'm afraid it might give me constipation.

  • Sounds so bad, call me when its $10, ill take a punt then
    CM7/9?

  • I'd rather spend another $64 and get the Agora 7 tablet

Kogan is currently selling them for $99 incl free delivery

  • -4

$12 delivered to postcode 6158 and its a deal.

  • Hey Rep, would you be able to make it $30 incl Delivery

    • Sorry i wish we can but at this stage this is the lowest we can go , thanks

  • +4

    an overpriced chopping board

  • +1

Hi guys, would this be any use as an XBMC remote or e reader?

  • Hi There um interested in quantity could i get contactphone numer or ring 0412511875

    • quantity over quality

  • Anytime a seller has to justify a product this much, you know it is not worth it.

  • Well it's something cheap that I could use as indoor security monitoring device. AVtech eagleeyes (security cameras) android app.

  • +3

It's a shame that so many people are negging this. Yes, it's not a very good product. Is it worth $35? That's up to you to decide. But this is a great deal for this product. It doesn't deserve a neg, negging it makes the seller unlikely to come back and offer other ozbargain exclusive deals.

    • +7

Or, it makes the seller realise he needs to come back with a good product at a good price and not waste peoples time or money here!
As with all negs, it's a situation of buyer beware.

  • For this price, the dodgy specs are legitimate. However! For android 1.6 or even 2.1 at this stage of the game? Not a deal at all.

  • For this price, the dodgy specs are legitimate. However! For android 1.6 or even 2.1 at this stage of the game? Not a deal at all.

  • So this can view youtube ok?
    View magazine pdfs ok?

    • Youtube not supported any more because they upgraded their software , please have a look at FAQ in item description , Thanks

      • How about magazine scan pdfs?

Got it for my 3 year old kid who wants to play with my Acer iconia.. hahahahahaha …

    • +2

hot damn, great idea. I have an 21 month old who can't resist my xoom - I'll give him one of the dreambooks to play with. cheers Scud.

I still hate COTD for advertising these things as being "upgradable to Android 2.1" (they run Android 1.6 - v2.1 was just the version of the software Pioneer (lol) were putting on their download site.

      • +2

Just make sure you turn off the Wifi haha apparently they get hot with wifi on … i looked at those fake kids toy laptops that are like $60 and thought what the heck is the point she gets bored of them in 2 mins how many times can u press that moo button and hear it moo.. (a lot but u know what i mean..hahah) i'll pay nearly half the price and she can pretend she's doing what i do! … loll if i can run other stuff on it and im an IT geek that's a bonus ..

        • +2

Just make sure you turn off the Wifi

More importantly, it stops the kids buying stuff in-game (or from ads) on your google account.

      • +1

        i hate COTD and OO.com Period…

    • +1

Will it play Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies OK? Does 1.6 do it at all?

No … must resist. I have been the fool to buy stuff before because "OMG its cheap - must be useful for something" and always regretted it.

      • i believe according to everyone.. NOTHING works on it, will a 3 year old know that not a chance if it makes noise and does stuff .. she's happy lol

      • No to angry birds as it lags and freezes

      • No to angry birds as it lags and freezes

  • +2

Wow you guys gota stop bashing this tablet, you wont ever find anything cheaper than this.. Most of you sound like saying pay me $35 and il help you take it lol,nit has to be good for something right? :)

Might not be good to play high end games but least u can play your emulator games like Nes/ snes classics!!

    • It doesnt play emulator games. It really doesnt. Its web browser hardly works, and you need a task manager for it to RUN things.

  • Which is better? Optus Mytab or this. Both have ~600mhz cpu and resistive screen and both run on android…opinions?

    • +2

      Mytab is better by far.

It can be upgraded to at least 2.3 and
      It has GPS built in
      Bluetooth
      Inbuilt phone
Can connect to android marketplace ……… etc

There are other differences, google it.

I have a Mytab, from the earlier ozbargain deal and I think it is great. Use it as a GSP unit in the car with different software and it performs brilliantly. I don't like it as much as an ereader, my Kindle 3 is much crisper, but then again this is a dedicated reader unit.

      • +2

I've unlocked/upgraded & also put cyanogenmod on various MyTabs for friends & family. They love them still, & wouldn't part with them for anything! :)

  • Maybe if Pioneer Computer open-sourced all the hardware info, developers might create an updated ROM for it.

  • So if you want to pick up you just show up to the warehouse?

  • +6

God you're all a bunch of negative nancys aren't you?

If you don't like it, then don't post here and slag off the seller asking for it to be cheaper. I think it's a bloody generous offer.

I got one of these from Big Dubya at the start of the year. Out of the box, it blows goats.

However… welcome to the world of custom roms and an awesome guy called Tipstir. I installed this rom on it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832980 and its now a very useable little machine for my email, web browsing, photos, facebook etc. And yes, that rom gets the market, facebook, youtube etc all working.

Can't complain for a $35 device. It's not an iPad, but the price doesn't suggest it.

    • Can u play game on it like angry birds for kids with this rom without lag?

      • +2

        No.

I'm trying some games, and it's hit and miss in that respect. Angry Birds runs too slow. Personally, I got it for a browsing tab, so haven't put much work into trying heaps of games.

Instead, I just bought an Angry Birds red bird toy and throw it at my daughter. Just as much fun for me!!!

        • Ehm angry birds is the main thing my 6 & 4 yr old want to play

  • +2

If you are unfortunate enough to buy one of these, there is a file on the internet called 'Apps_Roots and_more 2011" which contains many apps that work on this device (as you will not be able to access Google Play Store/Market). I have also found a few roms that can be used, the one I am using is Android Tablet Zone - HoneyComb V7.2.5. (It is NOT the real Honeycomb). But beware as I bricked the device once and took 2 weeks to unbrick it when I tried to use a rom for a different device.

Still doesn't make it any better just different.

  • What would be the battery life on these tablets, with the stock ROM or a custom ROM?

  • +5

if the title was something like "touchscreen digital photo frame $35 delivered" I bet the op would not cop this much flak! Hint hint!

  • I will give them a break I was going to get one for mom (videos) but did not pull trigger all the way They quickly responded and said OK

I got one already slow etc but for a "toy" maybe checking gmail on wi fi ?

Keeping in car (Mc Donalds - video ) OK for a LOW Price YES $25 sounds OK

  • -2

Wouldn't touch this junk with a 40ft pole. Not even remotely a bargain. At 9 neg votes already, how is this even showing up in my feed?

    • Because it has 36 positive votes, sheesh

  • Battery life dies after 20mins

    • +1

clearly you mixed the two expressions.
Either battery dies after 20mins or Battery life is 20mins

    • User experience or guess work?

      • you're not the same guy, are you? ;)

        • You got a point there, spawn ….

        • You got a point there, spawn ….

        • lol it a small world

  • Would this be suitable for my 7 year old to dl and read Ebooks from the library?

  • Works well with Amazon Kindle amd Aldikos applications

    • What's the battery life like? When going out for a day, and using it as an e-reader for instance, and the occasional WIFI to get on the internet? Will it last?

      • +1

Tested mine yesterday after a full day recharging. Lasted 4 hours with light use and backlight on for about half that time. Not very impressive as my Optus Tab usually lasts for days without a recharge.

  • Ebay is showing that OP has already sold over 369 of this. Any more feedback?

  • +3

    Got mine today.
my review in a word; cheap

resistive screen is lame, interface is slow blah blah winge winge

    BUT ITS 35$!

Overall happy with my purchase have spent the last 2-3 hours looking for custom roms (thanks MikeOxhard for the suggestion). 35$ for 3hours + of time wasting? I could spend more going to the movies and come out with nothing :P

Updated to the android 2.1 from pioneers website which improved it somewhat, now just trying to actually get actual android 2.1 or higher, I believe hardware limits the version to =<2.2. It has wired ethernet which is a major bonus for me (can test network settings, CDP etc). Dunno what its battery life is like it pretty much going to sit on my desk and stream internet radio, facederp, emails etc etc. I got sick of playing games on tablets/phones ages ago (PS Vita 4tw!). I have previously owned a Acer Iconia a500 and an a501, both of which I sold because they had their own problems (another story).

Just needs something to speed it up a little.
If I can find a really excellent rom I may even get another :)

    • let us know if you do find a good rom which speeds it up. have you tested any video files/games?

      • +5

The rom MikeOxhard suggested is really good (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832980), turns it into a whole new device :D

(rest of this comment relates to this custom rom specifically, not the stock one)

Includes good things like the official Google market as opposed to 'App Market' (whatever that is)

Still doesn't multitask well (as expected). With this rom and nothing running it has around 70-100mb ram free. For some reason the drop down notification window is ridiculously laggy, the rest of the desktop is fairly acceptable otherwise

I think its android 2.1 or 2.2 'About Device' isn't very helpful. Its at least v2.0 as ES explorer was installed.

Also, using a stylus improves the feel of the touch screen, makes it more responsive which I believe is typical of resistive screens. Apparently there is a thin plastic film over the screen thats meant to be removed but I can't seem to get it.

Also because its and older version of Android you are limited in what applications can even be installed. That being said, I tried some Pool game and its was abysmal same with something called Bubble Shoot (Frozen Bubble clone).

        There was a piece of paper in the box outlining the/a compatible video format settings;
        using Handbrake
        - mp4 (ffmpeg)
        - 400x240@300kbit/15fps (maybe upto 24fps)
        - audio@ 160kbit

Regarding battery life, I've only charged it upto 50% and after an hour its dropped to 30%, so I guess optimistically 5hours max (not likely).

I don't want to get anyones hopes up, it would take a lot to actually make this a device you would/could actually use for anything other than the most basic of tasks, but this particular rom goes a long way in making it a device you would actually use more than once :P
