  • Was thinking about this today, then i though among the other laptops etc and phones i have, i couldnt find a compelling reason to buy it .

Really interesting at that price form Big W though shows where the market is heading , sort of

  • For an extra $100 you can get Telstra T-touch with built in 3g, but I suppose if you want a tablet just for fun…

    • has anyone bought that, because the Telstra T-Hub was a fail

      • Yep. It's a winner. Comes with 3GB data with 2 month expiry and they're very easy to unlock. The only downside is resistive touch instead of capacitive touch. If this thing had capacitive touch it would have had everything. As it stands I have swype installed on it and the screen is very easy to use. For the money it's worth it. It plays video files with ease and has market access unlike many other tablet that don't.

        • The only downside is resistive touch instead of capacitive touch.

Nothing wrong with a good resistive touchscreen. And it means you can use a stylus, which is very handy when browsing website designed for a mouse. A finger is big and clumsy in comparison.
Best of all would be a screen with both.

But yes, this device looks a bit sad compared to the Telstra T-touch. If the latter is easily unlocked, I may have to get one.

This has come up before. Pioneer Electronics is NOT the Pioneer who makes good quality Car Stereos…
This is a cheap, no-name Chinese brand posturing as a recognised brand.

    • It's really unethical to stick cheap Chinese brand with a well-known brand like pioneer :(

    • +1

Actually, Pioneer Electronics IS the Pioneer who makes good quality Car Stereos.

The copycat here is Pioneer Computers.

      • You're correct…

    • -1

Pioneer Computers have been around for years and are a very reputable company as far as I'm aware. They share a name with another famous company, it's not illegal and it's not unique. Apple is the same as Apple records, pretty much. So there's no need to tarnish this company unless you have a specific beef with them.

      • Notably, since Apple Computers came into the music business they've had to pay significant fees to Apple Records to prevent getting their asses sued again!
Pioneer Computers may well be a reputable company, but this is still a cheap, no-name brand Chinese tablet with a "brand name" slapped on it.

    • Good luck on getting warranty on those….

    • That 10" one looks interesting. Really depends, I guess, whether you really want proper 3G/mobile broadband with your tablet. If not, this 10" tablet is probably fine. If you do want 3G, I would not hesitate to get smaller screen and proper inbuilt 3G, like in the Telstra-T-Touch-Tab-whatever. The status of GPS is also a bit iffy in this 10" one.

    • FYI, there's no way the 7" one is running 2.2.

    • The 10" claims it has "Microsoft WordPad" and "Microsoft Spread Excel". I haven't heard anything about MS porting this software to Android. Any idea what they are talking about?

      • Quickoffice or what ever it's called.

        • Weird. Quick Office claims to be Microsoft Office, "Quickoffice Connect™ Mobile Suite is the FIRST and ONLY full-featured Microsoft® Office productivity suite". I don't really see how they are Microsoft Office, any more than any other Office suite that reads MS Office files. I thought that they may have licensed the trademark, but they have a partners page and I don't see Microsoft on it.

My concern is that it is misleading to claim to be Microsoft WordPad unless the trademark and/or code has been licensed from MS.

  • i have what appears to be an exact spec unit, except i didn't pay $188, i paid only $107 shipped!

ok for ebooks, pdf and low res movies/photos, little slow for arcade games, wifi and casual net browsing is good for when you dont want to drag out the laptop, on the bad side, battery USED to last almost 4 hours, but now will only accept a charge for about 1hr usage with wifi on, will get it changed

  • Mate change the title. It's Pioneer Computers (who?), not Pioneer Electronics (the one everybody knows).

  • Does this have a resistive or capacitive touch screen? For the price it'd surely be resistive like the t-t-t-t-touch-t-t-tab.

  • Somebody brought one of these in to work. It's laughably bad.

  • CPU VIA WM850 = forget it

DealExtreme sells something very similar to this but without a camera for AU$99 inc shipping. I bought one… and quite honestly it's barely usable. This thing is VERY slow. Press a button on the desktop and wait a second or two before anything happens. The resistive touch screen is ok but obviously capacitative is far better.

The web browser is fine (cut down Chrome) but web pages take an age to load and scroll very jerkily. Buy an 8Gb iPod Touch for $250. Higher resolution screen and quite honestly it's about 50 times faster.

  • Not a bargain in any sense of the word. If you want a decent tablet check out the info at slatedroid.com

    Pioneer failbook more like it.

    533Mhz CPU = FAIL
    RAM 256M = FAIL
Colour Display 7” high sensitive touch screen, 800x480 Pixels = SUPER FAIL … it's resistive and low res …don't try and mask it by calling it "high sensitive" … it's not. That borders on false advertising in my opinion.
Android Version? I'm speculating, but probably 1.6 = FAIL
    Android Market access? No? FAIL.

I could go on, but what's the point. These things will give android a bad name. A bit overpriced at $188 … closer to $100 would be more reasonable. It's a throwaway device until the good tablets come out soon … fingers crossed!

    • Now this is a negative vote that really tells us something, thank you for the sterling effort in qualifying your vote, this really helps the bargain community decide if this is a bargain - which clearly its not.

      • If sloppy gave this a neg vote, where did it go?

        • He was having a stab at my negative vote. Not everyone has the time nor cares enough to list every possible negative for every deal, hence why I linked to a site that has a wealth of info for those lookijng for a device like this.

    • RAM 256M = FAIL

Is Android really that resource hungry? My N900 or the iPhone 3gs have the same and work fine.
Linux used to work well enough at 50MHz and 16MB, IIRC. (No Gnome or KDE!)

  • I wonder how many misinformed mum/aunty will fall for this, esp this is selling at BigW.

  • expensive and low quality.

would not waste my money on this.

could buy a ZT-180 processor unit.

    • Apparently the BadPads are going to be better than these.

  • The standard buy it now price for these things on ebay is $150
    I got a similar one for $80

They're slightly more useful than a lcd picture frame. Extremely slow.

  • Was almost going to buy this. little bit short of what i want though and at double the price of imports from
    http://www.tinydeal.com/ or http://www.dealextreme.com (no association).
Really feel it needs android 2.0 at least

    • Have a play with one in the flesh before you buy. They look OK but they work like a bucket of sick.

  • I am wondering how long can it work?

  • I think it's OK

  • I've got something similar to this piece of junk, bought it off eBay because I wanted to play around with something with android.

It's now sitting face down somewhere in my apartment collecting dust. It's only useful for casual web browsing, struggles with youtube, and even running videos it's way too laggy so no point. Also most android games don't run smoothly on it due to the crap processor/RAM I'm guessing.

Save yourself the money. I paid about $120 for mine and I'm still kicking myself for throwing money down the drain.

  • I bought this for my daughter for her 8th birthday from Big W….. Oh it MUST be crap if I bought it from there….

Seriously for $188 it is a really good little machine. You get what you pay for, if I wanted a machine that does absolutely everything I would have gone to an electronics shop and paid $1000 for something else. It suits her and it does everything she wants it to do.

We were going to buy an ipod for her (we already have a 4th gen 32gig ipod touch which she loves playing with) but due to the fact that apple basically own the world these days we thought we'd buy something a little different and that doesn't lock you into using only thier stuff.

I think people these days want to spend no money what so ever on the BEST items. It doesn't work that way. If you want top quality then pay top dollar. Don't buy something for $188 and expect it'll do what an ipad can do.

My recommendation is it's a fantastic machine for the price you pay.

    bid bid world

  • Is there anyone knows what is this? Does someone recognize this logo or brand?
    Looking forward to your ideas.
    Thanks

  • bought one of these when they first came out, checked the specs with my dad who is EXTREMELY tech savvy and is an electronics technician and i haven't had a single problem with it. the battery on mine lasts about five hours and usually takes about 30 mins- 1hr to charge

  • looks like deal has ended. Out of stock.
