    Connectivity technology ESATA

    Doubt

  • Seems to have a limit of 3, at least for the 6tb disks.
Does anyone know can you just do multiple orders of 3?

  • Hanging out for a 1 or 2TB SATA SSD deal.. Haven't seen anything non m.2 at a decent price for aaaaaaaaaaaages.

    • +2

For sure I could use another TB, all my current SSD's are full with games I don't have time to play.

    • Dude you Are living under a Rock ! budgetpcbulids have a 970 2tb for about 285 … theres an ebay promo that lasts untill the end of the month - you can get a 2tb 980 for 395 ….. thats less than what i paid last year

i suppose you Can buy Qvos for less …

      • +1

Re-read the post, dude! After a NON-m.2 SSD. Already filled up the 2 slots on my PC, I'm after an older SATA SSD.

        • you want a Samsung and Dont want it to be a Qvo Right ?

          • @mikezillakind: Nope? When did I say that?

      • Is $129 for 1TB that good of a price, though? I've seen MX500's for a fair bit less..

        • Some of the different Drives have had there Parts Farmed out for cheaper Parts - that will probably bother you more than anything ….

  • cmr? smr? lottery?

Finally hardware prices are getting juicy again!

    • Economy booming again. Have a feeling this year we'll see some nice bargains

      • +2

        Don't jinx it

  • +1

damn I paid 180 and thought that was a good deal
    they were boxed well

    • +1

Yeah, I’ve ordered 6 of these recently, from both Amazon and Futu. The Futu supplied drives came in a double bubble wrap envelope. The Amazon drives came double boxed, in proper drive boxes with cradle inserts.

      • yep same here
Arrived in 7 days from Amazon as well

    • I did same on last deal last month but hasn't arrived yet so probably buy this and return other when it comes.

    Is this good for NVR?

    • Can use it for it. I'd look at the purple ones for that.

      • So this is no good even though can use?

        • Maybe an overkill for your use his or her is suggesting saying that I'm no expert until I read up about these drives πŸ‘πŸ˜

What's the difference between Green, Purple and Red am I missing any colors? lolz

        • Blue!

          • @JL1: is Blue between Purple and Red or Green and Purple my guess Green, Blue, Purple and Red,.. is there a no color like Black? 😝😁

            • +1

@Italkdigital: There is a black, it's below gold though of course 😁

              iirc:

Green > Blue > Black for consumer drives

Red > Red Plus > Gold for NAS drives

Purple is specialised for recording camera streams 24/7, little bit different

              • @emm2600x: Don't forget Red Pro haha

              • @emm2600x: Big thanks for that explanation so others can see also would Purple assumable be superior drive maybe as a server or even boot drive or these don't like stop and start spinning so best suited for 24/7 surveillance spinning 24/7?, well since it can handle I guess if recording 24/7 it would then spin non stop,.. I guess to non stop writing never reading too to consider, I'm trying to picture a storage drive too in this mix which is designed more for one writes then ok reading as much as it wants delivery not suitable for a boot drive as example,.. I guess price will maybe reflect quality also

Sorry probably doing your head in lolz

                • @Italkdigital: Purples have optimisation specifically for the needs of security recording and playback probably involving firmware changes to buffer/cache/write patterns. The primary benefit is less dropped frames while writing video stream workloads. NAS grade red plus/ironwolf/etc are also designed for 24/7 operation just without these specific optimisations, so unless you are recording video there is no benefit to the purple.

              • @emm2600x: And there is hc and red pro (5yrs warranty) too :D

Green > Blue > Black (for consumer drives)

                Purple 5k4 (for write intensive)

                Red 5k4 > Red Plus 5k4 > Red Plus 7k2 > Gold > HC (for NAS/Raid drives)

            • @Italkdigital: Sorry too many to explain, lol. But glad the other posters explained!

i am holding on for a good local deal… seems like the prices are coming down

  • Thanks OP, bought 3… awesome deal even if not local

  • Never tried dealing with Amazon with US/UK warranty claims. Are they still OK for us to send items back?

    • It would be a headache sending them back though so far for me no issues with International overseas purchases of my hard drives collection πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜

    • Just had a WD Red fail yesterday bought 2.5 years ago, got onto Amazon help and they sorted out a return label, they refund not replace when they receive it. You have to take it to a collection point but there seem to be a few of those around so not to much of a big deal.

      • If the sale is not directly from Amazon the refund can take MONTHS, but this should be a little quicker should you need a refund

    • Had a drive fail after 2 years for a WD Red bought from Amazon US. They had me print out a return label and send it back free of charge and refunded the amount. Absolutely no issues.

Anyone tried raid on WD60EFRX and WD60EFZX? both are CMR

    • CMR is good for RAID.

SMR is what some people had issues with when using it as RAID on Linux ZFS file system.

  • How does this compare to the seagate barracuda, which is slightly more expensive on ebay? Use case: General storage inside my pc, and occasionally running games from it.

    • I could be wrong but I thought Barracudas, like WD Green and Blue are for regular use. For NAS, servers or anything that’s on 24/7, then go for ironwolf or WD Red

      • But would the red be worse for regular use?

        • +3

Some would argue that it's probably overkill, but definitely not worse.

  • Bought the 6TB. Thanks.

  • Any deal for 8T recently?

  • Thanks, bought a few of the 4tb as spares for my truenas box. Never know when I'll need them.

  • thank OP, I just had a 4TB Red start to give errors, after 5 years of use. Perfect timing to order the replacement

  • Looking to buy a RAID systems too to suite this HDD.. please suggest few options.

    PS:
It's a for a two person home office.
HD crashed few times in the past and lost data.. intention is to keep important data in this new RAID systems so if one HD dies in the RAID then still I have access to data in there rather than relying on the HD on the individual PCs

    • RAID is not a backup.

That being said, these will be fine for a home office 'server' setup.

    • it is better to get a 2.5-10Gbe network to use a Hdd raid network storage. Otherwise, it is a waste.
QNAP 431/451/453 or ASUSTOR 3304/6604 config in raid 5 or 10. Dont forget to get a back up disc - raid 5 =12tb raid 10=8tb.

    • Also Synology offerings in addition to what s12321 said…you'll see many comparisons of QNAP vs Synology. QNAP does have some better features at similar level units (but usually a little pricier).

I have two Synology NAS's now. The first is two bay, and the second six. I went Synology again for the 6 bay for no better reason than I was happy with the interface, and the old two bay unit hasn't missed a beat in the last decade. The 2 bay now serves as backup to the 6 bay.

Your decision should be guided by how much space you think you'll need, and what sort of performance you required from it. You've said your data is important, so I would suggest still backing up a NAS to another NAS or external hard drive occasionally regardless of what you decide. The ultimate data safety setup would probably involve a NAS in RAID6 or RAID10 (or variant…but 6 is a little safer than 10 - even on a 4 drive unit), and one other NAS or drive to take backups from that. Then an offsite backup, be it you rotating a fleet of USB drives that you backup and leave at work or a friend/relatives, or a cloud service.

Note that a cloud service like Backblaze might easily give you the data security you want. It's a cheaper option if you just want to backup your local machine and any drives attached to it (not NAS). Monthly sub gets you unlimited data - but you just might need two subs.

  • Can this be used for RTSP set up with eufy cams?

  • Thanks op, got two of the 6Tb for just $144.29 each.

  • +1

1 x 4TB Red+ ordered. I needed 4 of them but pension payments disallowed that, so the Seagate 4TB will have to suffice as the reflected part of my old 4 bay NAS mirror with the other 2 bays empty, for now. Thanks for the link, great price.

  • +1

    Thx OP. Ordered a 4tb

    • Just picked one up for $154.80!
