The page doesn't work for me. The selection boxes only have "all…" in them, there's no button to click to search, and a few lines below that says "Loading… Sorry, no sales or special offers fares were found for your selections".

Cheap! If only I had annual leave left =(
Business class seats from Sydney are only around 377 which is very affordable!

    • what dates?

    • bbooya!

    • What do you mean business class. Jetstar don't have business class, they don't even have economy - it's more a FU class IMHO.
I agree its' cheap. That's all it is.

  • Damn, im not going over till August and deal ends around June.

Just got to keep waiting on that next sale :(

    Doesn't sound like a bargain. Aren't their 2 for 1 cheaper?

    • +2

Not if only 1 is travelling!

    • It doesn't always have to break the record for 'cheapest' to be considered a bargain. This stands out on its own merit as its still significantly cheaper then their rack rates.

You're not bullshitting. You're just ignorant and alarmist.
There's radiation everywhere affecting people's health. You'd get more extra radiation on the flight on the way there than you'd get while you're there.

I have flown on Jetstar cheap flights to Japan annually since 2007. Only just a little cheaper now, but baggage was cheaper then, so price is little different in 5 years!

Was in Tokyo soon after the Tsunami, in the same hotel as independent European scientists investigating radiation. There was no problem even then, as they found out.

A great thing about fearful tourists like jva, rooms were cheap. I negotiated 3 weeks at $20/n for a Japanese style room in Tokyo, A/C, TV, wifi, etc.

But fear (and Japan is an expensive destination compared to most of Asia & even the UK) is keeping Australians from Travelling to Japan. Similarly, Japanese can travel & holiday cheaper than Australia.

Jetstar seems committed to Japan, so needs to fill seats - so these regular off season specials.

It closed its Nagoya route to save money. I flew on its first flight there in 2007 - it was almost empty, with most flying free. A couple I talked to felt like fools paying full price.

So, jva - you are bullshitting!

    • Because we all know that IF there were fatal nuclear radiation levels, they would clear out in 10 years and it would be safe. Thats why the Chernobyl tourist industry in at an all time high. Ignorant and Alarmist indeed. Japan is better without you.

  • This is damn good. I looked at flights from Sydney to Tokyo/Osaka and it works out to be just under $500 per person. Haven't seen it this cheap since when we last went in 2010, prices are usually around $600ish whenever I've had a look. Too bad the wife can't travel during the travel dates. Isn't it funny how things work out? Oh well…

  • Wonder why Jetstar don't fly from Brisbane to Japan like others?

    • +1

Gold Coast Airport would have much cheaper fees. Plus what Japanese tourist comes to Australia to go to Brisbane, they want to visit the Gold Coast.

Plus on the bargain front, great prices. Paid $550 return from the Gold Coast previously, even cheaper with this deal, although not the best season to go.

      • may i ask why it's not the best season to go? because of summer?

        • Didn't mean to sound like not a good time to go. I think from research there isn't really a bad time except for golden week to avoid crowds. Just humid/ rains alot in late may/june.
          http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2273.html

I'd always rather go in ski season, but depends on what activities you want to do. The other one is climbing Mt Fuji, but only able to do that July/August.

        • Typhoons, rain, wind are posible at the end of that period.
But at least its not hot & humid like August.
Japan is a long country - choose the right location for the time of year.

I prefer early April for the Cherry blossoms, cheerful drunks, and Japanese enjoying themselves.
          Enjoy Japan!

These flights start after Golden Week ends…
"However, the remainder of May is one of the best times for visiting Japan, as the vegetation has become lush, the temperatures are still comfortable and tourists spots tend to be pleasantly uncrowded. In Hokkaido, the progress of spring is delayed by about one month compared to Tokyo. At the other end of the country, in Okinawa, the rainy season (tsuyu) typically lasts from early May to mid June."

"From the beginning of June, the rainy season (tsuyu) visits most parts of Japan except Hokkaido. While it does not rain every day, the weather tends to be overcast and dreary. The duration and intensity of the rainy season can vary quite strongly from year to year."
          http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2273.html

        • Back in 2010, we went during the last week of May to the first week of June. Weather started off brilliantly but it rained during our only day in Kyoto (the only time it rained during our trip). Then it started to get warm during the last few days of our trip but not uncomfortably warm. Not bad weather overall for exploring Osaka and Tokyo.

I think there's a lot more things happening during the other months though, which is probably why Jetstar usually has sale flights around May/June.

        • Yes, usual pattern seems sale on flights up to mid/late-March (arrive as Cherry Blossom buds appear, plum is in bloom, and fragrant Apricot is great) celebrate the Cherry Blossoms with the locals, watch the folliage transition and I come home on this special in May/June before the rain. My favourite time to walk the ancient stone trails of the kumano kodo. http://www.kumadoco.net/kodo_eng/about/index.html

Travelling around Golden week time (Late April, early May) is different in different areas. It is the main holiday time for Japanese. (These flights are after that peak in travel by Japanese to Australia.) Best to book accommodation ahead. But found no difficulty last year! Also, Hokkaido seemed to be no problem in 2009.

Otherwise I go later & come back after the first snow in December (not a cold lover). Watching board riders in the surf from a snow covered beach is weird for a Queenslander.

Found July/August cheap flights arrive when lowland areas are too hot (40C) & humid. Kyoto is unbearable - reminded me of Cairns in Summer. Celebrated my bithday there in 2007, watching the giant Kanji characters burning in the mountains. But so many people travel back to their villages during Bon - a very important festival. But a great time for the mountains - went up the Alpine way to 2500m, and went for a nice long walk/camp.

But look for festivals - participating is one of the great delights!

        • Went in winter back in '08 & it was sooo nice!

    I want November. Sad face

    • Search for when Jetstar deals were on before, they are usually at the same time each year. I store away all their email specials so I know when a deal is likely. I am so used to travelling around the same date each year or so, and never paid more than $400 return including luggage. Good luck.

      • So you reckon November will be likely? I hope so

        • I often get a cheap flight home early December, so have been specials for flights around that time. I'm not a cold lover, but Japan under snow is wonderful!

    • This is also what I am waiting for. :(

  • Seeing Jetstar deals makes me sad, cos I desperately want to go, but can't because of uni :( great deal though, and great for anyone who can get away!

  • i hope this deal would be available same time next year :D

  • Perth doesn't even show up on the "Departing from…" list. So they are having a sale but excluding Perth completely?

    • Doesn't look like Jetstar is offering it, but there are still some good prices on split-ticket routes via Gold Coast (from about $330 one-way).

      Adioso does it for you:

      • Perth to Gold Coast to Japan… No thanks.

  • Any suggestions of scenic/photogenic places to backpack around?

    • Search photo sites under Japan, most Japan tourism sites, Whirlpool Forums under Japan Travel, Lonely Planet, Tripadvisor, or past Japan deals/forum on OB - they will give more specialist advice than here.

Depends what you want. You can find some amazing sights almost anywhere - depends what you are into.

Travel within Japan, & hostels/accommodation outside the major tourist centres are usually expensive (compared to other backpacking destinations). Confining travels to a smaller region can save a lot.

You can find cheap accommodation to base yourself in the (safe) run down areas of major cities, and travel on cheap trains to visit the sights, without lugging luggage. (eg Osaka has cheap hotels & is about $4 train ride from Kyoto - also look for great value 5 (non-consecutive) day passes on Kintetsu trains only available to tourists at Kansai/Nagoya airport.)

JR (rail) Passes are good value if you want to travel a lot in a short time (7/14/21 consecutive days). Used a JR Pass once - not for me - I like slowly exploring a place.

Hitch hiking is easy in rural areas & Couchsurfing is an option in cities. Many people ask me to stay at their home, but that is not a good option if you want to stay sober enought to travel the next day. (I have woken hungover in houses I don't remember going to, with the smell of a huge spread of breakfast being cooked in my honour, and I am just not up to it. Such hospitality.)

To keep costs down, I take a tent on some travels. Have slept in parks (under shelter sheds) without a tent - it is a safe country. Locals find the sight of a foreigner sleeping on their beach quite amusing! I leave my pack in railway lockers (don't even bother paying to lock them - never had anything stolen), so I can explore the town for the day (small towns only, not major cities where I always pay).

I have a name card printed in English & Japanese (free with Vistaprint), which is handy & koalas are loved by Japanese, so I always take a stack of the cheap souvenir ones to give away (children mistake kangaroos for rats & want a koala instead!). Even adults get a kick out of gift of a name card held in the paws of a 20c koala. It is a gift giving culture.

    ahhhhh….. went there in March.
Feel like going back again since it's so cheap !!
Love the food and the people there

    • +1

I was hitch hiking on Shikoku, and was given a lift by bus load of museum guides in training. They were learning about a village in the more remote Iya Valley. And that was where I was going.

Spent 2 days being shown around, treated (never paid as they always refused), had 11 tour guides teaching me (in English) about the history as they learnt it from the historian travelling with us, I was given the best room in the hotel, shared so much food & drink, and was given $200 when we finally parted!!!

The generosity was a little embarassing, but the people wonderful. I mainly travel in rural/remote areas, and get very drunk with fishermen & farmers a little too often.

      Japan is my favourite.
