For those who are unsure its runs off butane cans how you refill bb guns or refill lighters.

    • BB is co2 not lighter fluid.

Clearly haven't had fun before ;)

        • BB must stand for Bang BANG

        • There are BB guns powered by butane? 😮😮

      • Not quite CO2 but the idea is right

    Thanks, Bought …

Never soldered anything in my life but as a true OzBargainer I can't resist a bargain so am busy pulling out wires from various electrical items to justify my need for this.

Not really great for soldering, I have a Dremel gas equivalent that I just use for heatshrink and cleaning up 3D printed parts.

Doesn't offer enough control and also there is a hole for the hot air to escape, so you need to be mindful in how you hold it to not burn surrounding area.

This is good advice for the novice/begginer looking at gas-powered solders. Personally, i wouldn't recommend a novice use these. The heat control as you mentioned is hard to regulate sometimes…. so i'd recommend they use a mains-powered solder, get the hang of the basics and then can think about gas solders.
It will save a LOT of mucking around, potentially ruining boards, sensitive materials by over-heating.

        • Thank you - I don't have a soldering iron, and it sounds like this would be a frustrating waste of money for me.

          • @Zippy7: It can be very handy don't get me wrong, for heat-shrink wraps, cutting nylon ropes and fusing the frays at the end and MANY more things. Soldering, can be hard to get a grip of. I'm no pro, but i use both mains and gas powered. Gas-powered i use for everything but soldering unless i have no option lol.

  • I had one of these, it melted a bit, became unusable and I threw it out.

  • Brought one along with refil, it can be very handy but no sure this one has enough heat. See how's going.
