  • Same price as the 65 Sony x90j which I just bought (but not picked up). Wonder whether I should switch.

    • +4

Had a X90J, then a QN90A and now a C1. C1 is miles ahead of the X90J and a fair bit ahead of QN90A. If you can do without the extra screen size….
That said, X90J is a decent set and I would have kept mine if it didn’t have problems with 4K120 from Windows and VRR was already released before I returned it in November 2021.

      • How about qn90a compared to c1? I'm trying to pick one out of these two

        • +5

If ya gotta have accuracy and the best gaming experience, C1 every day. Same for movies.

QN90A pretty much only has brightness on its side, but there’s an issue where the settings that give the brightest screen and better blacks (local dimming high and standard) also give issues with washed out colours. The only way around it is to set local dimming to low, but the you lose over half the screen brightness, so the one main advantage over OLED is gone.

If your TV is located opposite a window where sunlight streams in and you can’t mitigate by blinds or shutters, get the QN90A. Otherwise, the C1 is the champ.

That said, if you don’t give a shit about some washed out colours in some scenarios (doesn’t happen all the time, but you will notice it when gaming), the QN90A is still a great TV. Even though the HDR tone mapping is inaccurate compared to other TVs, the HDR impact is very impressive and the blacks and colours are excellent for the most part.

As far as OS, LG seems much better than Samsung. And the C1 magic pointer remote is actually more than just a gimmick as it does speed up navigation.

          • @sickaunt: thanks mate, for me I'm very tempted to go C1 but SDR brightness would be a pain since it will be opposite to a window most of the time and I use it as a monitor with losts of static content. I recon the best choice would be the QN90B coming this year with 4 HDMI 2.1 ports that will suit both PC and PS5

          • @sickaunt: isnt qn90a an ips panel in au?

            • @chaosemcee: Feel free to add whatever the implications are for this. Something about viewing angles or something…? Still a great TV irrespective of panel type.
End of the day, anyone buying a TV should check it out thoroughly beforehand. Preferably by taking their gaming rig, console or media player to a showroom and judging for themselves. Check for reflections, viewing angle, take the TV out of store mode and have a play with various settings, etc.

    • +1

If you do not need the extra size, then yes 100% this is a better TV in terms of picture quality, dark levels, and response times. Only issue is if you plan to watch a lot of static content and keep the TV for more than 4 or 5 years, then factor in burn-in (which is a LOT better than how it used to be in the past, as there are a lot of preventative measures the TV takes automatically).

    • Rtings.com is your friend :)

      • Yeah size might be an issue as my last tv was a 58 inch. Also living room is on a bright side which I tolerated when using Plasma over 8 years (zapped by lightning surge). I bought a cheapo EKO Qled as a replacement and it was surprisingly good as it was very bright, until it broke down just before 12 months. You really do get what you paid for, so now it's either Samsung, Sony or LG for me.

      • Not when it comes to QN90A specs… like most other reviewers, they have a different panel to us down here

    • Make sure you can even access this deal and that you have enough Afterpay credit before you consider it

    • The age old question

Size > quality so long as the TV isn't like a meter from the couch. Keep the x90j

  • +2

Is this a record-low price for the 55" model?

    • +1

For the C1? Probably. For any 55" LG OLED? Probably not (I remember paying $1580-ish for my B8).

  • +1

The problem is you need a high limit on after pay.. I only have $1700 available..

    • Use gift cards to pay the difference, or up to $1500 (eBay limit)

  • Does it have reflection or it is a matt panel?

    • +4

      Glossy panel

    • It's glossy but has an anti-reflective coating. Rtings gave it 9.3/10 for reflection handling.

  • +1

How well does this tv work in a room with lots of natural light coming in? From what I’ve read oled is not the best option?

    • +2

It's also glossy which isn't great for bright rooms. Maybe wait for the new releases that should be within the next few months.

      • Wow quite a convincing statement to people like me. I am so convinced not to get OLED anymore. Save some bucks! Thank you!! :)

    • +6

You're correct, OLED is not great in bright rooms. I bought a X95H for our living room (high ceiling, lots of natural light) and I have the C1 in the media room.

I wouldn't want the C1 in the living room.
The X95H does a much better job in this instance. The C1 has a glossy panel, which doesn't help with reflections either.

The C1 picture quality is astounding, but there are better (and cheaper) options for bright rooms.

      • any recommendations for these “better” options for bright rooms? similar price range to c1
        thx

        • +2

Sony X95J is great for bright rooms. Much brighter than an OLED in SDR or HDR, better motion handling for sport, and Sony TVs are the most accurately colour calibrated TV’s out of the box.

Starts at 65 inch though, no 55 available.

The new version, X95K will be released soon, adding Backlight Master Drive and Micro LED backlights for slightly less blooming.

          • -1

@bobmonkey17: Unfortunately X95J has Mini LED backlight, not Micro.

      • +1

Thanks. I really wanted to experience the oled picture quality but this is the factor holding me back.

  • I don’t see an option to delete credit card on Afterpay if you only got one saved

    • Could be the saved credit cards in Ebay

  • +1

ooof i bought the 48 inch one that was posted here earlier as a pc monitor. is there THAT much of a difference between 55 and 48 inch tvs?

    • +8

Around 7 inches. Checked with the gf and she's advised that it does indeed qualify as a significant difference.

    • Stick with the 48 if you're going to use it as a monitor.

I got the gigabyte 48 inch and I think that's already pushing it in size.

      • +2

I have dell 43" 4k lcd for work and that's the biggest I would go for a office monitor. Only go bigger if you are gaming.

  • Can someone who can access the deal post a screenshot of the checkout page to help those of us who can claim price protection? Thank you.

    • Ummm, anyone should be able to do this.

      • +1

For me, afterpay as a payment option is greyed out and can't be selected.

        • Oh damn. I just tried. To select afterpay the value needs to be between $1 and $2000.

So may need to buy a $200 giftcard.

I'll report back if something else works.

          • +3

@Caped Baldy: select credit card (delete any saved cards if needed)
            Enter the code
The price drops to bellow $2000
you can now select Afterpay if not already selected

            • +1

@Priester-Aus: You can also do this in incognito mode with guest checkout, to avoid deleting cards. I changed to click and collect to remove delivery costs from screenshot

55” too big for a bedroom, using 32” at moment, 3m or less away.

    • +1

55" is perfect for 3m or less!

  • +2

I bought the 48" C1 for 1790 a few months ago in preparation for AFL season and for my bedroom. I LOVE it. Countless reviews have it as the best TV for watching sport. I find the 48" perfect and I'm 3m away but for the negligible price difference, I'd grab this in a heartbeat if I didn't already have the 48".

  • Q on behalf of my friend - Is he able to pay it using the debit card or is that a must to use the afterpay option ? He setup the afterpay just now however they have only given $600 as an initial credit . He tried to pay a part using debit and then the rest with afterpay and its not letting him.

    • He will need to purchase eBay gift cards to cover the difference then 600 on afterpay.

  • With discount, this is a good price for a run out model.

Knowing that the C2 models will be announced/released soon and historically with Black Friday pricing (based on C1 series sale prices), best to buy now or hold out for later in the year (for the newer model)?

  • +1

How do you increase your limit with after pay, its $600 lol. CC has $34K limit.

    • +2

You need to keep using afterpay and it gradually raises your limit.
My limit is still not up to the $2000 limit after 12 months and I payout straight after purchase.

      • +1

        Thanks, f them then lol

  • Thanks been pondering this for a while - had to top up with some eBay gift cards but got it done!
