Reviews aren't as good for this card, compared to the Gigabyte Eagle..

    worth looking at this first..
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_VC_00wcMU

Pretty much the fourth worst 3080 avaialbe..52/55

    the Eagle OC was 39/55

    • Would have thought Zotac take out top honours for worst card lol

      • Itneresting how the chart is pretty much.. and what most people would have expected..

    • +7

this isnt really a review, he basically looks at the power limit mostly and whatever has the highest TDP is the winner

      • +1

He brings up at the start that higher power limit means it can do the boost for longer, cards with smaller power limit boost shorter periods and it can affect game play and fps. But he did say ventus had a good cooler just a low tdp for the card. I'd say it's a bargain then at this price

Edit surprised to see it below the eagle oc too lol maybe take it with a grain of salt….

        • +1

It’s not that simple. It can boost higher with more power but there is a ceiling.
Most of the cards have enough power to reach that ceiling for 3000 series.

    • Its also interesting that the Colourful Neptune that comes up at the top .. people always crap on that card cause they haven't heard the brand before

    • That video is comprehensive.
Having said that he did say all are good to go, except that one Tier D 3080 card he won't recommend buying.
So this Ventus 3X Plus is fine for people who just want to run it at stock speed. And at this price, you can't really complain much (except you can still HODL and the price of 3080 may drop a bit more in the coming weeks, but that's another story).

  • +1

    …..

  • +2

No a good card this one,

  • +1

Not a good card, maybe why this dropped below $1200?

    • -2

Let me jack it up to $2000 then, it must be good rite?

  • The Gigabyte Vision RTX 3080 is $1,265.65 with the afterpay discount.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-RTX-Vision-3080…

  • No such thing as a bad product.. only bad pricing..

as this card is clearly inferior to the eagle and other 3080 offerings, its needs to be priced accordingly to sell well..

If no other 3080 are avaialbe at this price point, they may be able tot sell a few cards to desperate people..

    • +7

Disagree, have you ever seen the 3 wheeled car thats prone to flipping in turns?
      Bad product.

      • i have no idea how that car made it past the brainfart stage

      • +2

        Just wasnt cheap enough

      • if you go slow enough it wont tip over

        • +1

If Mr Bean see's you in it .. he'll come straight away and tip you over regardless of speed :P

  • I'm out of the loop, there's models of 3080 so bad that you wouldn't buy it for 1k? What a massive range it has then from bad to really good

    • +1

It's a hot card. If u buy it prepare to look up replacing thermal pads. I did it twice for my eagle oc (couldn't get good pads asap). It's still hot.

  • -5

    Don’t support shit products
    And Afterpay

    • Afterpay is the reason why so many GPUs have been sold, this is OB and you're suggesting to people not to support bargains?

      • He's a troll, don't bother.

      • AP is eventually going to be big enough to take margin off vendors which will be passed on to financially responsible people.

AP promotes irresponsible spending to younger people.

AP is a middle man we don’t need.

        • -2

Nothing you said makes any sense, irresponsible spending is at the fault of the spender, not the lender, stop spreading FUD.

Some misinformation in the comments here.

This is the "plus" model. It's a newer/revised model compared to the standard ventus 3x. They added more/better thermal pads and switched out the plastic backplate for a metal one. You won't find any reviews on it since its quite new and no one is going to re-review a minor revision like this, especially on youtube. Not saying its the best one you can get, but its a decent upgrade compared to the old one. You should still probably undervolt it regardless to lower temps.

  • Are there any non biased websites out there that rate the graphics cards based on things like performance / cooling etc? I’m in the market for a 3080 and want to make sure I don’t end up with one that needs additional cooling that I don’t want to have to do later on

    • "hardware unboxed" channel on YouTube is Aussie and do good reviews. Should check them out.

  • +1

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPYpaROZ0ZE

This guy in Nov 2021 still seems to get a big difference in temperature by replacing the pads on the "plus" model.

    Also in that video comment:

For anyone who is doubtful of this, just by following these instructions i dropped the memory temps from 102 to a constant and stable 76-78. It is crazy to see what kind of crappy thermal pads and paste, MSI uses. It is like they want the cards to fail.

    • I’m looking at a 12gb 3080 and wanted to know how it compares and whether there’s any thermal issues between them depending on the manufacturer

    • +1

Do that and good chance to lose warranty on a $1200 video card..

      • No worries regrading warranty, the "warranty void if removed" stickers are not legally enforceable and the only thing that would affect your warranty is if you are trying to screw/unscrew the heatsink and slip the screwdriver and physically damage the card as accidental damage is not covered under warranty.

    • I asked MSI AU whether replace thermal pads on my 3090 would void my warranty, and they confirmed it. I think warranty void if removed is still legal outside USA.

  • +1

    good price

  • Tempting as someone who has been holding since 2020 Dec for 3070/80… should I wait for the new gen?

    • +3

New gen is another 6 months minimum, and what guarantees they'll be in stock? How badly do you want a new card?

    • +2

I ended up jumping on the gigabyte vision for $1260 coming from an RTX 2080. Personally, I can flip the 2080 for probably $600-$700 making it a $500 upgrade.

In this environment, the new Nvidia GPUs much be stock restricted/overpriced on the new node in line with market expectations. So we might just be paying FPS per dollar on a linear line anyway. Look at Nvidia's head space/mindset on the RTX 3080 TI for example.

I'd jump on this and enjoy the games, worst-case scenario if the 4000 series is SIGNIFICANTLY better we can just upgrade and flip the 3080. Having said that, 3080 is already at the limit for performance at 1440p 120hz (DLSS) even on new-gen games so unless game demands significantly rise in the next 24 months I don't see the point of upgrading unless to drive 4k 120hz.

      • +1

Yeah, I also have been looking at that one. More 'affordable' and originally was going for 3070 for 1k before the hikes so it seems like a plus.

      • 1440p 120hz (DLSS) is not the same as 1440p 120hz though so saying the card is at the limit is I guess a good incentive to buy the 4000 series instead. I was hoping to play games at 144hz 1440p with a 3080 since my 1080 is struggling but I guess not enough of a jump still? When I went from a 970 to a 1080 it basically doubled my FPS in every game so I was hoping for a similar jump, I guess graphics tech has really slowed down lately.

        • Depends on the game. It’s 1440 120 for any games that don’t have heavy ray tracing. For RT games where you need DLSS, DLSS quality looks equal or better than native in most cases.

          • -1

@LukeBP: I wouldn’t use ray tracing, it doesn’t make enough of a difference for the performance hit it gives.

            • @Agret: You’ll get 1440 120 out of any current game without RT on a 3080. Bear in mind RT is becoming the standard feature set moving into this gen. Not yet but in 23-34 global RT GI etc will likely not be optional

              • @LukeBP: Saying getting 1440p/120fps out of any current game without RT on a 3080 is just too generalised.
Remember there are currently two popular games - Cyberpunk 2077 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - that a 3080 won't be able to get near 120fps at 1440p (unless you lower the graphics setting to Medium or less)

        • Remember 2560x1440 has 78% more pixels than 1920x1080.

970 -> 1080 is a two tier increase, one generational, one in the product line.
It provided a 57% increase in performance

          1080 -> 3080 is also a two tier increase
It would provide a 62% increase in performance (not including DLSS gains)

Apologies if this has been asked before, but when you first sign up to AfterPay, you get ~$600 which won't cover this. Is it possible to pay out the rest immediately (~$598) and still get the discount? Or do they just straight up bar you from buying.

    • I believe you have to pay the deficit ($597.65) up front. If you had enough balance, you wouldn't have to pay anything today; the first payment would have to be made two weeks from now.

    • Is it possible to pay out the rest immediately (~$598) and still get the discount? Or do they just straight up bar you from buying.

Yes and no. It's decided on the spot. The only way to find out if you qualify is to try to checkout and see if they offer you that option.

      https://help.afterpay.com/hc/en-au/articles/360030314532-Why…

For some purchases, if your total order amount exceeds your Afterpay-approved spending limit The first payment may be higher than subsequent payments. Afterpay will show you how the instalments are split before you place your order.

This offer is only available in certain circumstances and cannot be provided at request. If you have an offer to pay a bit more upfront but your friend does not we cannot change this, the offer is prepared based on each unique order. We take into consideration a range of factors.

Alternatively you could purchase $600 worth of eBay gift cards through ShopBack and then pay the remaining ~$598 with Afterpay.

For those dunking on this card, this card is by far the easiest to deshroud and attach some Noctua fans if you want a silent card

    • And how much extra $ would that be to add those expensive Noctua fans? ;p

      • Doesn't have to be Noctua, even adding arctic P12's would still be cheaper, cooler and quieter than a higher end card

        • Which Arctic P12 fan size can you fit onto this GPU?

          • @edfoo: I think they are saying you just zip tie 2 12 cm fans on the card. they aren't going to fit within the shroud dimensions.

I would recommend looking at arctic fans, noctua is overpriced

            • @greatlamp: LOL, how many expansion slots will this GPU card take up if you zip tie those Artic fans? 4 slots?
Plus that will also ruin your all cable management effort as it will look unsightly too.

              • @edfoo: You can buy Noctua fans direct from the manufacturer for a pretty good discount.

If you use slim fans it will be around the same width or even less than the factory shroud.

Quiet, better performance and I’ll take classy Noctua brown over sick RGB lights any day thanks.

              • @edfoo: Yeah it would look unsightly, it isn't for everyone.

Personally I would do it, I don't care about cable management and rgb, I care about temperature and noise, my computer case sits on the floor.

There isn't any other pcie cards in the average pc apart from the GPU, it could take up 6 slots and it wouldn't matter.

    • Doesn't this void warranty?

      • +1

I'd say no as you're not touching the heatsink, just the fan shroud, no one would be able to even tell

        • +1

Ah the warranty stickers are not touched when you do this?

          • +1

@fufufu: Warranty void stickers are illegal. In Australia we have basic consumer rights and a sticker won't change that

            • @scottySK: Agree. If you want to avoid the headache of warranty fight with the manufacturer, leave those stickers alone.

  • MSI suck as a brand but price will temp a lot of people.

Bottom line it will do the job

RTX4000 series must be close you can smell it
