GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) Secure Travel WiFi Router – AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Ethernet Wireless Internet Router with IPv6 USB 2.0 MU-MIMO DDR3 128MB Ram, Repeater Bridge and Access Point Mode, AU plug

Normally $69.90 but currently shows a 15% off promotion code.

Seems to be a bit better than Slate but cheaper; loses card slot though.
This might be their cheapest offering with USB-C instead of a Micro USB. Great if you're transitioning all your devices from Micro.
Next step up would be the Beryl

Good for unplugging ethernet in hotel TV and plugging into this router to share free internet.

  • Actually bought the GL.iNet GL-AR300M16-Ext Mini with Antennas for $39.90 @ Amazon

Great little travel router main features I was after it having both a Wan and Lan port, can be used as a wifi repeater and a USB port for both mobile tethering and to plug a USB 4g modem into it,..

but the most important feature I was after is fail over, doesn't exactly work how my Dovado treats fail over were one can pick priority connection but it comes close at fraction of the price and a solid router

Might by another GL product maybe try this GL.inet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) here while on special for $20 more then the 300M model, now investigate what more features it has

Gl.Inet routers all have the standard failover priority

      Cable > Repeater > 3/4G Modem > Tethering

If you want to change the priorities then you can edit /etc/config/network

You’ll find there is a “option metric” for each interface (or you add if there isn't one). The values should be 10, 20, 30, 40. The lower the number the higher the priority.

      e.g.
      config interface ‘wan’
      option ifname ‘eth0’
      option hostname ‘GL-B2200-cb0’
      option ipv6 ‘0’
      option metric '10’
      option proto ‘pppoe’
      option username ‘xxxxxxx.com.au’
      option password ‘xxxxxxxxx’
      option disabled ‘0’
      option peerdns ‘1’

  • Any chance of a deal on an GL.iNet GL-E750 OP?

Sorry, I'm not affiliated with them. I'm still not sure what I want myself

  • Dump question… in WIFI repeater mode, speed drops to half. Say I repeat a 2.4G WIFI from hotel, expect the speed to drop from 300Mbps to 150Mbps, then connect 4 devices to Opal 5G WIFI, do I get full speed on the 5G between the 4 devices?

You'll lose half bandwidth if you repeat and WiFi on the same band. So a 2.4Ghz only repeater you'll lose half. If you however repeat on one band (e.g. 2.4Ghz) and WiFi on the other (5Ghz) then you will maximise your bandwidth.

      Hope this makes sense.

  • I've got smaller model which I'm using for a VPN. That model is USB 5v 1A.Works well with a wireguard VPN.

The interface is quite neat. Easy to setup.

  • Thanks OP.
