  • Not a fan of pastel colours…. But neeeding a stand sit desk wondering if anyone has any views on desky? Most googling gives you the usual suspects : desky, omnidesk, kergo, etc and they're all pretty pricey. Are they all much of a muchness? Crazy how pricey some of them go up past $1k…. Happy for any recommendations. Otherwise if they're all the same build quality and sturdiness just go for cheapest?

    • they are all much the same. TBH I reckon they come from the same factory as the specs, materials, colours, look…. pretty much identical… price even are the same. I chose Desky as they had the generic $100 off but a couple of weeks after ZenSpaceDesks had a bigger discount. Just go with which one has the best offer at the time :)

I am still waiting for my desk after about 6weeks, it is with TNT now at least, so hopefully get it soon and set it up :)
If you want to ping me next week I might have thoughts to share on it once I've used it.

      • Wow does it take that long to arrive? Where abouts are you? I was hoping it'd take two or three weeks as we're away end of April… And knowing my luck it'd arrive then. Do you get shipping notifications and tracking for when it'll arrive so you can arrange someone home?

Ah drats missed most of the sales then…. But yeap def keen to hear once you get it how it fares.

Edit: what was the Zendesk spaces discount btw?

Also are all the add on accessories just money grabs or did you get it?

        • mine took so long because it was a large L-shaped corner desk so it wasn't 'in stock' and was custom ordered/made from wherever.

          • @jasiano: Ahh ok gotchya so your a different case… What was the quoted time otherwise for you ?

            • @SaberX: Hey SaberX -
there is a lead time for L-shaped corner desks on the website. I think it was listed as 10business days from memory so it was longer than that, but I do have to give props to them as they have given a small discount because of the wait time. It is what it is… frustrating but that's life :D

I fear the shipping from Brisbane to Perth is going to be a killer though… whilst TNT have quoted it to arrive this week I'm not holding my breath.

              • +1

                @jasiano: Hey Jasiano,

As long as this is in transit now there's shouldn't be any delays, the only issue TNT faced was the depots in Brisbane were unaccessible due to the flooding and it wiped out their depot in Lismore. Thankfully the flooding has now subsided and operations have been resumed for over a week now.

Note that TNT is still very reliable but anything travelling 4000-5000km by road will be around that 7-12 days for a Pallet.

                Appreciate the patience!

      • Hi Jasiano,

So sorry to learn of this wait time, did you have a pre-ordered desk? if you can email in one of the friendly team members will definitely help!

        Thank you.

        • all good. It's on the way :)

          • @jasiano: No worries.. we are here to help if you need though :)

    • Hi SaberX,
      Thanks for the comment, of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and will have their own views on each competitor, although I can ensure the following for Desky;

      • We focus on stability, ensuring each model feels rock solid.
      • All the melamine desktops are made in Aus.

We have sampled hundreds of manufacturer's and settled on the highest quality linear actuator motor, the main thing people need to compare and consider is that the stability comes from the design of the leg, our leg columns go from wide to skinny which is the optimal design to keep the weight lower to the ground, this ensures the desk is very stable.

So the main thing to look at between models / competitors is the design of leg they've chosen, check the specifications and see what the weight is. Cheaper desk models will use cheaper materials causing stability to be worse.

In the market you will also see two types of models predominantly for your standard 'sit stand desk - straight'.

The two types are single motor and of course dual motor systems, differences to look for when doing your research:

      • Height Range
      • Warranty
      • Capacity
      • Capabilities (Such as what can the hand controller be programmed to do)

The differences between our single motor versus dual is below:

      Motors: Dual Two, Single One
      Capacity: Dual 140kg, Single 80kg
Warranty: Dual 10 Years, Single 3 Years
Height Range: Dual 60cm-124, Single 73-123cm

The dual series has dual motors is better if you're running a larger setup.

You also get a greater adjustable range, meaning the desk is suitable for more users.

There is an upgraded controller and a wider variety of desktop finishes and woods to choose from.

Finally the most important and crucial thing to check is knowing your height range, there's no point getting a desk if it's not ergonomically correct.

Under 170cm in height we recommend the dual motor as the single sit stand desk can be found to be too low at sitting height.

Best to check out our ergonomic desk height calculator: https://desky.com.au/pages/desk-height-calculator

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

      Brett - Desky

      • Hi Bret. Thanks for your comments. How is the realistic shipping times to WA (Perth) these days? In light of all the delays. Important as some suppliers quote times I doubt are achievable and in all honesty wed just want to ensure something comes before mid April as we don't want a mishap where it arrives while we're away on holidays later. I'm about 184 cm in height - what sort of ergonomics or standing height maximum would you require for a standard user my height in terms of min (seating) and max (standing) ?

I'd be happy to consider desky… I've obviously missed some of the bigger sale promos so I'm just on the hunt for whichever supplier is offering a decent promo price to specs. So if there's anything we can negotiate or apply on the side please let me know as the eventual price could sway on our decision on who to go with. Thanks!

Edit: clarifying that I'd likely go with the larger 1800 desks which don't seemt to go beyond 75cm depth do they? Seems no one really offers 800 or 850 deep options?

        • Hey SaberX!

Realistically we dropped a few couriers such as hunter express because they're pushing lead times of 3-4 weeks!! But we just signed with allied express and they're around that 7-10 days on average (98% of their consignments have been issue free) so they're a fantastic option so far.

Pallets can take slightly longer give or take a few additional days, this only applies to the L-Shapes they're shipped on pallets to avoid damages to the top!

As for pricing, if you email in to [email protected] the sales team can sometimes honour past sale prices or a better code.

We definitely offer the choice of custom manufactured desktops to accomodate the wider depth, we only offer custom sizing in our melamine range, note we do have a 3-5 week lead time for custom manufactured desktops. Although the 750mm is our stock standard that's ready for same or next day dispatch.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

    • I too was on the fence before, had been looking at sit-stand desks for ages and shopping online for best bargains but all of them came up looking a bit strange or using the old 2 staged leg system which was known to not be as stable.

Decided on a Desky after looking at Omni, Zenspace, Kergo simply because of the colour option with the sale price at the time.

Got a Natural Walnut Melamine; has a look of a timber desk though not the overall texture feeling but i quite like it.
Definitely very solid table top and extremely heavy. Legs are very tough as well and haven't had any issues since I've had this desk for the past few months. (You can find my review on their website haha). As I'm a short person I have it at 94 cms as I stand and work - typing on the desk has little wobble on my monitor (held up by a monitor arm). If i slam my keyboard like i'm raging then there's a definitive wobble being seen.

I have my monitor, computer tower, speakers, and a few stuff on it - can also sit on it and it'll operate up and down with ease (I'm 75kg).

As other people shared though - I personally think all the brands are the same; go with the ones with the best deal and/or colour that you like.

I will say though - the desky cable channel beats all the other brands cable channel.

  • I'm very happy with my Ikea Idasen. I've had it for about 9 months. It was by far the most stable back-to-front that I tested (including Herman Miller). It may not have the digi display and you have to hold the paddle to move the desk to a preset position, but it doesn't bother me for the 3-5 times I move it up and down on a work day. There is an app which I never use also. It's a Linak motor and I've read somewhere that the motor is compatible with all Linak control panels - you should check - the control panel just plugs into the motor. Other than that, it's very easy to assemble, has a 10-yr warranty, and 365-day returns. The worktop does feel a little light/cheap, particularly when putting it on, but now it's on I've found it's reasonably hard wearing and doesn't feel light because I would only pick it up when assembling/disassembling the desk anyway.

    • Is it steady when it's in standing position? Do you have monitors mounted, at all?

      • All wobble a bit in my experience when standing but this was by far the most stable I tested (OfficeWorks, Herman Miller, a few others in person I can't remember). I have a 34inch widescreen on its stand on my desk, along with a laptop, keyboard, mouse etc.

        • Hey!

There's actually a review video on youtube between the differences of Ikea desks versus Desky Desks!

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03PXVQB-E1E

$1,500 Desky vs $500 Ikea sit-stand desk REVIEW - WHY did I switch over to Desky?

(Please note he has a hardwood desktop which makes the price $1500, the comparison of stability and specs is the dual motor system)

          • @BrettS: Thanks for sharing! I have no opinion on Desky either way as I haven't tried one. I had a quick look at the video and the Ikea desk looks to be the Ikea Bekant (which is wobbly) not the Idasen, which I have. In my experience, the Idasen is very stable up or down vs other desks that I've tried instore and I've read it's due to the unique design of its legs. There are pros/cons to Idasen, it's definitely worth googling. I made my mind up when I went to Ikea when I felt how stable the Idasen compared to other desks I'd tested for stability in store.

  • Any plans for deals on regular coloured desks?

    • Hey!

If you email in to [email protected] with what you're after the sales guys can some times do better pricing!

      Regards,

    Oh dear, another Desky deal.
If you like massive delays and the rep trying to pull the wool over on you, go ahead.
The desks are fine but as mentioned, it’s all from the same factory as other sellers and they slap their brand on it. Only difference is this place will delay delay delay with shipping, send fake tracking numbers etc.

My experience dealing with them was very negative, endless new delays and smarmy reps. But don’t take my word for it, have a look through the 1 star google reviews, productreview.com.au etc. You’ll see a pattern. You’ll also see a pattern in their many five star reviews…

If you’re unlucky and have ordered and start to experience ‘delays’ remember you can start a paypal/CC dispute.

The behaviour is just rotten and I hope the ACCC takes notice of them.

      Hi Pastry,

Thanks for your message, we aren't denying that some people have been let down in the past and it could've been for any reason, although each and every time we try our best to make sure the experience at the end of the day is ended on a positive note.

90% of the bad reviews simply come down to Aramex the courier service, in between signing up for new courier services we experienced an influx of poor reviews as they were an extension of our service. We have since learned from our mistakes and ensure each and every bad review is carefully considered to ensure their experience doesn't happen to anyone else. We no longer use Aramex the service for shipping desks.

Currently, the warehouse is completely up to date with same or next day dispatch depending on the time of purchase and with a few new couriers, we are delivering within the advertised times on the site.

      Regards,

      • -1

Yeah… you tried the Aramex excuse on me too when I ordered….
If you hadn’t given me the runaround before even claiming to have shipped it, I might have believed you.

To the ozbargainers looking for a desk, please just consider the 1-star reviews before buying. If you still want to buy, just make sure to use paypal/CC to protect yourself against these guys doing anything shady.

        • -1

Under consumer law every customer is entitled to a refund if it meets the policy on our website, we have a 7 day grace period which allows everyone to ensure the Desky is amazing quality before keeping it!

          • -1

@BrettS: Careful mate, entitlement to a refund is determined by ACL, not ‘the policy on your website’.

As mentioned, the issue is this company will take your money and make excuses and delays for ages. They sometimes send tracking numbers that sit idle for weeks as not picked up, or go to a different address than where you live (tip: they’re stalling you).

Just make sure you’re not at their mercy if they do the same to you as they have to many others. You can request a refund but they can easily not respond. How do you follow up? Some poor reviewers have said they have to take them to court because they have no other avenue recourse.

Paypal or credit card dispute immediately puts the ball back in their court, make sure you have emails and invoice ready.

Or just avoid the hassle and buy somewhere else?

            • @pastrydemon: Regardless as I said we provide a great experience with no dispatch or shipping issues currently, our product is fantastic so unless someone changes their mind due to some unknown circumstance there will be no reason for people to request refunds.

Just to clarify as well we have not been to court with any customers nor have we withheld people money at any point, everyone that has been within their rights have been refunded correctly in accordance with consumer law.

We have a rule that all customers must be responded to and emails to be at zero each day, to ensure no customers requests or questions are left unanswered.

Again we acknowledge that you may have had a previous experience that wasn't positive but we learn from past reviews, complaints and put the necessary processes in place to ensure a repeat doesn't happen again.

There are far more positive reviews than bad reviews.

              • +3

@BrettS: In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m trying to alert ozbargainers here to your shady practices because I love this community and don’t appreciate your dishonesty.

Maybe all the bad reviews about you guys having huge delays and awful customer service once you have the money are all just made up?

You do have a lot of 5 star reviews and honestly, many look fake.

Everyone, if you do find the price too tempting and still want to go ahead, just make sure your payment method makes it easy to enforce your consumer rights.

                • +4

@pastrydemon: I have one of these desks from a previous deal. EVERYTHING pastrydemon says was exactly my experience. Having dealt with them it seemed to me very much like a company in disarray vs anything sinister. I had the logistics teams blaming the sales teams and vice versa. My order was mispicked so I received items I didn't order and not the items I needed to make the desk. Took ages and took me making multiple calls and a LOT of my time to resolve.

I am one of the people who left a 1 star review. They offered me a free item in exchange for me removing it. I didn't take them up on the offer.

I am happy with the desk, it works well months later. By all means buy from these guys but be prepared for chaos.

  • I bought an ErgoDC desk a couple of weeks back after looking at all the options out there.

It was about 20% cheaper than the equivalent Desky for the same warranty, weight capacity etc. Build quality and stability are excellent, and it only took a couple of days to arrive.

My only complaint was that the under desk cable management seemed to be an afterthought

    • Where'd you get that from? What do you have on the desk, out of interest?

    • Keen for a link too please.

  • I bought two Lazy Maisons ones, 20% cheaper and very satisfied.

    • How is the stability back and forth at full height? Got a link by any chance?

  • Buyer Beware. Customer service is apologetic, but do nothing to help or able to provide any information with escalating or needing to confirm with a supervisor. Zero proactive notification on them not fulfilling their commitments.
1 month after ordering and still no desk.
Committed delivery day came and went with no contact with me to advise they were not coming. Spent two weeks trying to get from them the reason for the delay and when I could expect my delivery.
Eventually advised they were waiting on a cable tray.
I asked that they send me the desk and deliver the cable tray when it came in stock.
Another week later and no response on a delivery date.
They called and advised my order would come on Wednesday (today) but when I emailed them to confirm, they said they would have to escalate to the courier.
I just want my desk and everyone I contacted had no idea for the delay, when this may be delivered of where my order was at.
    Useless company.
Plus I submitted a review on THEIR site two weeks ago and this has been filtered out. They only publish 4 & 5 star reviews.
    Unethical company.
