getting close to sub 2000, still way more than i can afford tho

    • +2

there was a sub-2k galax card the other day, and iseeyou1312 was kind enough to post a colorful one in the comments here:)

      • Don't like galax. Maybe the brand makes better cards now but in the past I've always had most problems with them. When I was flipping PCs and video cards couple to few years ago.

    • +1

its already sub 2000 and still in stock: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/685683

      • i mean of bigger, more well known brands

        • +2

To be fair Galax is a huge brand just not in Australia.

  • +22

Nah, this card is worth $1200 max.

    H O D L ! ! !

  • +2

Tech fast 3080 pre built deals were sub 2k?

  • +5

Not a very good price given that the 3080 is below $1.5k.

    Also better card cheaper here.

    • +1

Why is colorful better? I thought MSI is a better brand.

Also how can this be a bargain. MSRP is $1920

    • +1

its a crappy chinese brand, I got with MSI any day. Even with paying $75 extra.

      • -1

The same MSI that was strapping plastic backplates to their 3080s and calling it "new graphene technology" lol? But even ignoring Ventus cards having a history of poor noise/cooling solutions, the Colorful has:

        • Better cooler
        • Bigger cooler
        • Better fans (if MSI are using sleeve bearing which seems likely, Colorful have hydro)
        • Actually connecting the backplate to the PCB with thermal pads
        • Dual BIOS (can flash the Colorful card without bricking the GPU).
        • RGB, which seems to make PC hardware more valuable.

Also, MSI is a pretty crappy brand with a poor reputation. But anyone, this is largely academic as both "deals" are bad.

"MSI is a pretty crappy brand with a poor reputation."
Stop watching YouTube, it's clouding your reality.

I'd take MSI over Colorful ANY DAY of the week.

        • MSI has real after sale support direct from themselves. In fact I chatted with their support tech here locally if there's any issue.

Suddenly with so many recent good GPU deals, anything over $2k now is kind of ripoff … I know this is a 3080Ti but still

    • -1

only 3090 can beat 3080 Ti, so it deserves a bit of special price?

      • +1

Obviously pricing yet to be released, but leaks are saying even the 4070 will be a 3090 beater, so it'd be pretty crazy to lob $2k at this now, only to have it relegated to being a bit better than a 4060Ti in a years (less?) time

        • never in the history of Nvidia that the next gen card beats the hell out of the earlier gen on 70 series.

you're saying that 3070 beats rtx titan, which it didn't.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: RDNA3 has broken Nvidia's performance crown, so historical performance/price changes are irrelevant.
Lovelace is shaping up to be an 80%+ performance improvement over Ampere and will still likely lose to RDNA3. AMD are doing to Nvidia what they did to Intel.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Can't find definitive benchmarks, but 1070 looks like it went toe to toe with the 980Ti/Titan X, so not unprecedented to have this kind of jump, particularly with the competition now mentioned by iseeyou1312

          • @[Deactivated]: Nvidia said that the 3070 would be equivalent, if not slightly better than 2080ti. I'll wait for their statement about the 4xxx series. But I think if you want one of those in 2022 you will need to get a techfast prebuild LOL.

            • +1

@Jazza2400: My prediction is 4070 will retail around US$790 / AUD$1200 upwards with performance similar with 3080 12GB variant and slightly weaker than 3080 Ti.

Depending on the ETH proof of stake, if it gets delayed again there will be resurgence of mining on 30xx series cards, as most likely 40xx will be mining proof.

30xx series will be more expensive than 40xx series, there'll be market on its own amongst miners. the good thing is gamers can just focus on 40xx series with their 'reasonable' pricing.

              • @[Deactivated]: I agree, they would have worked out a way for the LHR to be officially locked in the 4xxx cards.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: The 4070 MSRP was leaked as $550. But whether that's the real MSRP Nvidia targets or the MSRP for the first 20 minutes followed by a $200 price hike remains to be seen.

It won't be below a 3080 Ti. Will be ~10-30% above a 3090/3080 Ti for rasterisation, 50%+ stronger for ray-tracing.

They just dropped the price apparently. It was like $2300.

  • +3

definitely not worth the price. regular 3080 beats it at both price and value for performance right now and mostly likely for a while. if it reaches $1500 or lower then it may be worth a consideration for some.

    • +1

the price is still dictated by mining performance, its the 3rd fastest mining GPU on the planet after 3090 and 3080 FHR.

Miners like maxhashrate bought 16x of the Luke techfast phantom 3080 FHR, and that's just 1 guy, other like rektrading probably got 100s of those.

if you don't believe that miners holds the power of pricing on their hands, well then crimea river.
