Really need to sell my FHR 3080 and buy a ti

    • Saaame. What FHR 3080 you got & what you expect to get for it? I’ve got a Gigabyte Master 3080 Rev.1 (which only has two pcie) they changed to three on rev 2 (ugh). After the whole greasy thermal pads debacle, feel like it may not hold good value lol.

      • +1

eth mining over soon, FHR drops in value fast, miners offloading their GPUs on gumtree and ebay.

shitcoins mining don't care about FHR or LHR.

        • True. I should just be happy with my card, but I just don’t like gigabyte lol

          • @Edamamme: isn't it Aorus Master? is not as bad as Eagle or Gaming OC. with 2 pins, no need to pigtail on the 3rd pin in later rev. I'd keep it till it drops dead or when 5080/6080 comes out.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah it’s the Aorus Master. Yep probably will, hopefully don’t need to change pads at some point!

              • +1

@Edamamme: You'll void the warranty if you do, just leave them it, it has 4 years warranty so you'll be fine.
10c cooler temp won't make you a better gamer lol.

                • +2

@[Deactivated]: Only 3 years warranty for me. First time building PC and thought I could only register warranty when card was installed in computer (idiot). Missed deadline by 2 days, and I tried speaking to gigabyte support, and they were totally unsympathetic and actually quite rude about it.

I didn’t care as much they said bad luck you can’t extend it now, it was such a big pricey purchase & my first ever ‘magical experience building a pc’ and the way they spoke with me, really put me off them as a company. Also just totally shut down my excited vibes for my new PC as I was registering everything.

Now when I see the star of the show in my pc (gpu) what should’ve been amazing has been tainted.

Rant over thanks for listening hahaha

                  • +1

@Edamamme: 3 years is pretty damn solid for a warranty anyways tbh. Sure longer is better but it's still a beast of a card and you'll quite possibly be selling it in 3 years anyways or giving away to family member/friend etc.

That said, are FHR cards even fetching reasonable prices now that bios mod released for LHR gimped cards?

                    • @KennyPowers: Appreciate the perspective! And you’re both right I’ll just be enjoying it for a few years and then swapping. Don’t think I’ll ever buy a gigabyte card again though! Time to game haha

                  • +1

@Edamamme: Gigabyte are indeed a dogshit company with rude unhelpful customer service.

                    • @Canberralad92: Haha Thanks for the acknowledgement. Knew I wasn’t alone in having a horrible experience with them.

I feel like they are sometime the only affordable option & we just get flooded with so much gigabyte & less of the alternatives at the same price.

                      • +1

@Edamamme: I just avoid their stuff now unless it's dirt cheap. Still works etc but if you have issues with them or their promotions they are extremely unhelpful.

        • When exactly will the eth mining stop? I’ve been hearing it’s coming for over a year now.

          • @ChillBro: maybe when the HODLer whinger finally shut the hell up lol, which probably never. lol.

  • +1

If we hold, will there be further price drops?

    • +5

Sure. When 4080 and 5080 come out

      • There are going to be continued price drops. Crypto supply is now entering the market, so prices will continue to fall. Not sure where they'll stop, but would be surprised if they didn't drop below RRP.

        • Highly unlikely this year - silicon supply is still a major issue, Ukraine crisis probably going to give China some balls to put some pressure on Taiwan too now… Geopolitical uncertainty will be keeping pricing probably closer when we were at prices just after launch… i.e. 3080s for around $1600-2000… 3090s from memory the cheapest for say an Asus ROG Strix 3090 was $3400. Probably a realistic benchmark.

          • +1

@sn00kered: I mean we already have one 3080 below $1600….so you may need to revise that estimate.

With crypto being gone, the semi-fixed price floor of GPUs has dropped away. But yeah, we'll see. Maybe I'm being optimistic to hope for under RRP =P

The more they drop The more I will wait & hodl!

    • +1

you'll get addicted to HODLing, you might never buy anything again lol.

      • +2

        I'm gonna HODL forever.

In an alternate universe there is an OzHODL, where we save money on things we want by never buying them

          • +2

@PigGainOut: and in another one there's OzHOARDER, where everyone buy things they don't need at whatever price.

Lucky we're in neither of them.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: What do you mean we're in neither of them?
"where everyone buy things they don't need". Isn't that OzBargain?

        • Hold to the moon

      • +1

I have been holding since i bought my 7970 ghz edition…

Only 9 more months till i get another 79xx edition card!!

        • dont worry 7970 = 6500XT

        • That was (is) a very good card!

  • +1

    Very close to MSRP

    • +2

      which is $1920.

  • There were sub-$2000 options at launch, but this would be the lowest listed on here, yes.

  • next gen GPU, the GOOD, even the slowest will be faster than the 3090! Its a generation jump in speed! The bad is, new PSU >1200w needed as these GPU need a 16pin smart PCIE5.0 connector. High end cards might need x2 (1200 for the GPU+PC, so 1800w)

nVidia alone, have 4mil cards to shift (many are not LHR too) so prices are going south (god knows we would be happy with rrp but they are going lower this month) as INTEL have 3 GPUs and the best has 3070 type speed and should be US$400RRP and nVidia have been making 12gb GDDR6x 3070ti's to compete with it (about $700-800AU) and an old 8gb 3070Ti is about $1250 now, so you see how far prices have to fall. Then toss in crypto miners selling into this market and well, good times ahead!

Also about Sep/Oct with the 4xxx/7xxx is the new 13th gen Intel too. While it will use the 1700 socket it will get a new chipset to support all the lanes and improvement's, so a bad time to be buying 12th gens! They have a life of <9 months…. Its why I moved to AMD AM4 for the longest time!
