Inefficient compared to a chest freezer

    • so horizontal is better?

Upright freezers like this one can be frost free and allow for electronic control over temperature
        Each serve their own purpose

If you don't mind reaching down and moving things around to get what you need

          waiting for a diagonal freezer..

          • @h4zey: That would provide a good balance between the horizontal and vertical options

      • easy to put a body in a horizontal than a vertical one

^ This is 100% true. However, we bought an upright (the 173L Hisense), because we didn't want to have to faff around with defrosting (no such thing as a frost free chest freezer).

At the end of the day, what is better for you will depend on your priorities. FWIW, we are happy with our life choice.

      • I've got that one too. Seems fine. I prefer the upright over chest for convenience (although actual usable space is a fair bit less than stated due to the shelves or drawers). If they have drawers like these you don't lose much cold. I have mine on a wifi timer set to avoid peak electricity rates.

With seemingly useful comments like this, I always need to add a pinch of salt, because I have no idea if "we" is a couple, a 10-piece ensemble or an icecreamery.

Who are you and how often would you normally need to defrost a horizontal one? 😊

        • I don't really see how the "we" is important to my comment…(a couple in this case, but the exact same could equally apply for a 10-piece ensemble or an icecreamery). The number of people is not really relevant to the desire (or not) to defrost a freezer…

Who are you and how often would you normally need to defrost a horizontal one?

More than "we" would like to. 😊

If you'd like to know my height, BMI, and how many times I have played Uno in my lifetime, you'll have to submit the relevant form. (You can address it to the People's Association for Couples, 10-Piece Ensembles and Icecreameries Who Wish to Avoid Defrosting Freezers.) 😊

          • @caprimulgus: Thanks for clarifying.

I'm 100% sure that a freezer used daily by 5-10 people in a sharehouse requires defrosting or other maintenance more often than a single chicken nugget hoarder's freezer.

            • @pizzaguy: Sure. I think you are misunderstanding my comment though: you are talking about the frequency defrosting is needed. I was talking about the desire to avoid defrosting all together. :)

If one wants to avoid defrosting at all costs, then the frequency of defrosting is not relevant (beyond whether it is ever necessary or not).

Do you see what I mean now? Frequency of defrosting has no relevance whatsoever to my original comment. (Whether it is relevant TO YOU is an entirely different matter altogether - but nothing to do with my original comment, which was about my desire never to have to defrost.) 😊

Now, if I had said "if you want to minimise the time spent defrosting freezers…", then sure, the frequency of defrosting now becomes relevant. But I didn't say that…I said I didn't want to have to faff around with defrosting. Ever. 😊

Let's chalk this up to you mis-read my comment. 😊
