    • It's not that bad, it's only an increasing series of N payments before you own it.

    Tiresome aren't they.

Wonder how much the fingerprint security is worth after the data leak

  • Dunno why you got down voted, it's literally listed as one of the crucial sets of data stolen in the leak - biometric unlock methods

    https://techcrunch.com/2022/03/07/samsung-breach-source-codeā€¦

Though it's unlikely to effect this particular device as it most likely stores a local encrypted print, it does potentially make it more vulnerable if the algorithm is cracked.

    • Was reading up on this today a little..

How can I as a Samsung Phones/Tablet user avoid these issues? Would it just be good to delete all biometric data for the foreseeable future or would it be too late to even bother that? What else is affected? Thanks in advance. I'll probably go back to reading on it now, scary world we've come to.

Very few (if any) devices with biometric security will keep a copy in the cloud or anywhere else.

They are almost always kept on the local device (I think the exception was facial print data but that may have changed).

The concern isn't that your fingerprints will be leaked to the web, but that hackers could figure out a trivial way to unlock devices using Samsung biometric security.

It's a bit of a problem because they don't have to ever announce they've cracked the storage/algorithm and they could just silently sell the tech to third parties or governments that want access to these devices.

        • Welp, time to look for a bargain on a 3310.

Thanks for the information my dude, I crashed out last night but will be heavily reading today to catch up on all the other breaches, I've heard it's an ongoing global attack so there could be a new list today alone for targeted vulnerabilities..
