Why there are so many particularly gigabyte gpu on the market compare to asus or msi? all asus and msi manufacturers sell all their gpu directly to scalpers and miners?

    • +7

No idea but they are amongst my "brands to avoid" after using them for many years.

      • +3

Maybe share your experiences if you have had issues with this brand?

The availability of one brand over others may come down to the distribution to Australia. I'd assume they will be all different.

        • +4

I've had a few Gigashite cards in my time, I'd say 2/3 of them ended up black screening after a year or so.

          • +5

@1USD: I have had Gigabyte GPUs for the past 10 years without issues. I am a gamer but don't OC so not sure if that makes a difference.

            • @Mulga Bill: Yeah I mean to be fair its luck of the draw with them, at least in my experience. I usually now stick with EVGA or Asus. I never overclock my cards either.

            • @Mulga Bill: Same they all lasted no issues at all.

            • @Mulga Bill: Doesnt make a difference. I overclock all my components and never had a problem with any of my gigabyte cards.

          • +1

@1USD: interesting, that is the same for me. thought maybe it was just my luck.

            • @gromit: Happened to a few of my mates as well, this was 10 or so years ago they may have improved on whatever defect there clearly was with the cards back then.

              • @1USD: similar, my experience with them was from 2005-2015 or so, after that I swore off them as was just too many failures so custom builds I do for me or friends never include gigabyte anymore.

          • @1USD: same, i have had a few gigashite cards and only 1 didnt die
770 (combusted, literally caught fire), 780 (stopped working), 1060 (the only one that didnt die after a couple of years)
now i have an msi card and might avoid gigashite in the future due to 2/3 of them failing

          • @1USD: yeah thats not the cards fault

black screen is usually from overheating, gpu components getting so hot they've essentially desoldered themselves

other brands would suffer the same fate in your poorly ventilated case

        • +1

My experience is the Windforce fans don't last very long. Also, if you look at Youtube maintenance videos of giant crypto mining farms, nearly all the dead/broken cards are Gigabyte despite a lot of other cards used in the farms.

        • +2

I have a 1080 Gigabyte it has slight coil wine and the fan profile is completely cooked.. other than that it's still going strong

        • my gigabyte 1070 had coil wine, got rid of it.

      • I've had good experiences so far, x570s mobo is excellent and 3080 eagle (original, non lhr) has been rock solid.

    • +2

      Popularity, namely that these aren't.

    • +1

Probably because the thermal pads are particularly poor on gigabyte cards

    • Why there are so many particularly gigabyte gpu on the market compare to asus or msi? all asus and msi manufacturers sell all their gpu directly to scalpers and miners?

As the first poster, I think you were supposed to say: HODL

    • The cooling on them generally isn't as capable as other brands, so they run hotter and produce significantly more noise.

    • As though miners are still buying cards, lol

    • I've had asus and msi fail on me, Gigabyte on the other hand, is still tanking.

  • +13

About to HODL my pants rn

  • +2

ive had some bad experiences with gigabyte cards dying on me, so i tend to avoid them

  • +6

Yeah eagles have worst cooling thin heat sinks and flimsy fans, gigabyte gaming better for extra $30, waiting for some drops on evga and msi🙏🙏🙏
Makes me laugh say save $630 was $1799 lol
Whats the lowest we could see a 3070ti sub 1.1k or sub 1k🤞🤞🤞🤞

    • Yeah I have eagle oc 3080 and it gets hot. I think Gaming OC will be lowest I opt for in future.

      • Mine is okay, but I've got a well ventilated case with waterblock cpu cooler. My eagle 3080 oc was $1349 back in the day.
It's been running solid now for 13 months.

  • +3

Hold the line.. more supply is coming and prices are dropping by the week, who knows we may even go below RRP in the lead up to 40xx

  • +1

    or HODL until 50xx launches!

    • +1

man my apm by that point will be like 5 will be useless for gaming.

    • -4

or HODL forever and keep using integrated graphics. 5600G has it.

    • I had been waiting to upgrade my computer since the end of 2019.

I just bought a 3070 ti and a Ryzen 7 5800x (plus psu, ram, motherboard) for just over 2k.

It's worth it. If you've been waiting as long as me just buy and enjoy it.

  • +1

    HODL!?

    • +1

I'd HODL for further drop but make sure to have capital ready to jump in before supply running out

  • +2

Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is a great price.

XC3 3070 launched for $949 (PLE again), and $1099 is the closest I've seen to its original launch price since… well, the launch.. (using 3070 as a benchmark)

now PLE themselves are selling the XC3 3070 for $1199 and its not even available to purchase.

  • +2

Interesting 3070Ti has dropped in price from about 1500++ to 1169. Not much more than 3060Ti.

Question is why hasn't 3060Ti dropped as much? They are still around 950-1000 for low end to more than this 3070Ti for higher end.

    • +2

You are right, when you look at price jumps between 3060-3060ti-3070-3070ti-3080 it goes $679-$949-$1099-$1159-$1559
So you got a large jump between 3060 to 3060ti and 3070ti and 3080. 3060ti is a large performance increase over the 3060 though. But for the sake of $200 you would get a 3070ti over a 3060ti for 20% improvement on 1440p/4k gaming.

Edit: looks like 3070ti to 3080 is roughly a 15% performance increase in 1440p/4k, larger gain in 4k due to increased memory. But your talking $400 more.

    • Availability could be the issue. Probably not much 3060Ti produced recently or just not many ppl bought 3070Ti before so it got more stock in hand.

    • +2

3060 Ti uses the same die as the 3070 and 3070 Ti. Not much incentive for Ngreedia to produce 3060 Tis when there's plenty of demand for the higher tiered cards.

    • The 3060Ti price point is being held up by the 2nd hand market to an extent.
Version 1 was the most efficient card for miners to buy and still is very sort after regardless of the price of Crypto today.
It wasn't long until the average neckbeard caught on and they all disappeared from the market.
You will see more and more hit the 2nd hand market as Crypto price puts in lows because they don't educate themselves in understanding the actual market, they only research how to plug in a GPU(s) and earn money.
Longer term miners will then pay the inflated price as it still benefits them in the long run.

Version 2 LHR prices are then kept inflated by retailers/manufacturer as they employ people to do price research and figure out a price where the V2 cards could look appealing without seeming too greedy. The average 'gamer' will fall for it because they may not understand crypto or mining at all and see a $300 price difference between the 2 versions and think its great…where really - only the retailer & manufacturer is winning.

      Thats 1 small reason anyways..

      • -1

        3060ti/3070 fhr = 60mhs@130w
        3070ti = 61mh@180w

I'm ok with it at this price point but happy if it comes down further

  • +4

    Holdl!

    • +4

we must hold brother….they are baiting us with those inflation price (even though it look juicy as hell)

      • +3

Won't be too long to go, keep holding please …

        • What are you realistically holding for though? A 3070 ti for $1000?

  • +1

    4xxx incoming.

    • At the end of the year maybe

  • That 3080 is pretty cheap… is Titan tech a reputable store?

  • -2

Wonder why so many deals at BPC tech, they are for sure on my avoid list with stock issues.
Would much prefer to buy from an honest retailer like PLE.

    • ordered 3x cards off them recently, all in stock and arrived quickly and without issue

  • Damn, I got my 3070 Ti for $1549 two weeks ago.

    • +5

      You didn't HODL, you lose.

      • -3

no he's not, he already enjoyed 2 weeks of awesomeness. you lose instead by HODLing for almost 2 years LOL.

        • +4

He didn't sound too happy in his post.
If he enjoyed, he should say yay yohoo, instead of damn.
I'm happy for hodling for past 6 months because I have stack of older games to play through. So I win :)

          • -2

@edfoo: not 6 months, 2 years, you've been waiting 3080 to reach $100 since 2020, which kinda sad how it turns out…

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Nope, 6 months. Only started checking out GPU prices in past 6 months. No plan to get a new build until mid this year anyway. So I can still HODL :D

You can preach how ever hard you can in every GPU deal posted, you're not going to con people here to buy a GPU now if they are not in a hurry and can afford to HODL.

I think you better sell off all your GPUs now to recuperate their value , before they keep getting cheaper in a few months time, like your abused mining 3080 will only worth $100 then ;p

              • -4

@edfoo: I don't have 3080 to sell, even if I do I'd rather give it to miners than sold it for $100 for the likes of you.

        • +2

Gotta love the cult of HODL

If the price is good to you just buy it and enjoy it already. We've all been through years of shit GPU prices lets all just relax and game.

          • +1

@Nereosis: HODL being salty as hell for just few hundred bucks price drop. FFS you can't even pay for rego or ctp with that amount of 'savings'. unless they just bunch of kids with piggy bank savings.

            • @[Deactivated]: good spending less either way.. agree though with some thing you just have to get them (and claim on tax anyway)

              • +1

@G-rig: price of 3070 Ti jumps overnight, now at or over $1349, with the cheap ones being sold out.

                https://www.bpctech.com.au/catalogsearch/result/index/?graph…

                something brewing here….

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Just have to get the best price ya can really.. not worried aren't getting one for a fair while yet no point upgrading when i got the MSI 2060S for $500.

ps/ the power bill on mining isn't that cheap and the arse has fallen out of most coins

    • I think its a bit more than 2 weeks
The evga 3070 ti was on sale for 1359 4 weeks ago already

  • why the hell is my old 5700 xt 8gb worth as much as this im confused. should i sell my card and upgrade?

    • Have you heard of digital currencies yet?

If not…did you just discover Skyrim and haven't left your gaming chair in like.. 2 years?

Edit: it's because of mining my dude.

      • +1

damn i know about crypto but never knew about the mining rig hardware. didnt realise this card was valuable in that way.

kind of makes sense to sell my card and get one a 3070 cuz i only ever game.

        • Yeah they were $1200-1300 at one stage dude haha.

They've only just dropped below 1k value because of this crash and increasing LHR card hashrates

          • -5

@Dvbargain: HODLer hates crypto mining to the guts, they prefer it goes to zero and wiped out trillion dollars of people's money so that they can get measly few hundred bucks discount for 3080s.

            how selfish is that?

    • Your 5700xt was worth ~$1400 back in May 2021 before the crash

  • the 3070 is tempting…must hodl…

  • The 3070 (non ti) for $1099 is pretty much at good to go imo, you wouldn't have buyers remorse there.

    • it should be cheaper, imo pay $60 more for a better card (and worse cooling)

  • hold until price goes down to 800

    • -6

or minus 800, so you get paid $800 when buying a GPU!!!

  • Wise person once said 2050 is closer than 1990. So probably hang on with what you have and pre order 4080 when the time comes.

    • not a single person I know pre ordered and got a 3080 within a reasonable time

      • -2

HODLer won't pre-order, they going to wait till price drop to $800 which will never come.

      • +3

This time Nvidia has secured 9+ billion dollars in production wafers from TSMC for 40xx so there's going to be supply which may cause a flood of used 30 series to hit the market

        • Comes down to price of 4xxx models. They've seen what people will pay plus if it makes money mining then there's that tax.

  • These windforce fans are horrible, combined with the terrible Factory fan curve it makes a horrible rattle when mounted horizontal

  • +2

This could be something to look forward to.

RTX 3060 Mobile GPUs Adapted Into Desktop Cards to Bypass Nvidia's Anti-Mining Limiter
By Zhiye Liu published about 10 hours ago

The merchant even had nine of these bad boys side-by-side in a system, collectively pumping out 246.8 MH/s and pulling around 910.7W from the wall socket.

    • -4

HODLer going to neg you to oblivion in 1..2…3…

  • +1

I had to pull the trigger. Went with the EVGA 3070

I've been waiting long enough to upgrade. Been holding on to my 1070 since 2016.

    • Congrats and enjoy your 3070, its worthy upgrade from 1070 as I was using 1070 myself since 2015.

      • As a fellow 1070er I am tossing up getting a 3070ti my HODLing is getting harder

        • +1

The 1070 is definitely a tough card and holds up well still. It's 8gb vram saved it. The 3070 still only has 8gb.

I used mine for 27 inch 1440p for years, but I recent upgrade to ultrawide 1440p (gigabyte m34wq) did impact framerates.

If I was still on old monitor I may have stayed. Benchmarks put the 3070 as a double in performance…but that doesn't mean the 1070 is obsolete yet.

          Holding is an option.

          • @Supercharger: Might just keep Holding for a 1k price point if that ever comes :P

I am also in disbelief that my I7 7700 isn't Windows 11 compatible haha!

        • +1

Just upgraded from a 1070 to a 3070ti. It's absolutely noticeable and a significant upgrade.

Dirt Rally 2.0 in VR went from 75% resolution on low settings to 150% resolution and almost everything on Ultra and a contast 80fps

          • @Nereosis: Thats good, you'd Hope so for two generations and Ti and for the extra cost

    • Had to? If I had a 1070 I would've waited 6 months for rdna3/lovelace. Will be interesting to see what $1100 gets then.

      • +1

There is always something better on the horizon I suppose.

I've held out long enough through the crazy times.

        • Look realistically prices may keep dropping but they won't be as sharp of a drop as they were 4 weeks ago. If you can afford it I think it was a great decision. Enjoy your new card mate.

        • Fair enough I have a 970 so I'm not being hypocritical. I don't necessarily want to wait either but I definitely will be before giving into this inflation. I'm worried people forget how much cheaper cards were, they've dropped recently but barely when you look at historical pricings. They're still 30% overpriced

Before Dec 2020 we had $600 2070s, $499 5700XT, $220 RX 580 8GB. I think people will forget this and ultimately that will prevent gpu prices from returning to past norms.
