  • You will need to activate your travel insurance for each trip

    🙄

I can't see any info in sup cards?

    • +1

      $10 p.a. additional cardholder fee

      • I'm seeing $0? Top of the table

        • They must have updated it, I just copied that from their website

  • What if I had this card 3 months back? Any restrictions on previous cardholders?

    • Offer not available if you currently hold, or have held, any Low Rate card type in the 12 months prior.

      • +1

        The correct T&Cs are:-

Offer not available on all other card types (including Low Fee), existing cards, switches from other card types, and new Low Fee credit cards if you currently hold, or have held, any Low Fee card type in the 12 months prior.

    • Yup i had this card couple months ago too, Shame i only got $250. :( . But again my ,minimum spend was $1000 i think that time.

  • +3

anyone know if this card is easy to get approved for?

  • Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria and will appear on your statement as ‘CASHBACK $300’.

  • +9

I had this card. One thing I really liked is that there was no minimum spend to get international travel insurance. However, as noted above, you have to "activate" your insurance for a trip before you leave (i.e., go to a website and put in the requested details). Some cards have a $500 minimum spend prior to departing to activate insurance, which normally is OK, but if you have a points-based ticket or your ticket is paid for by someone else, and you're visiting overseas friends/family, you may not have that $500 pre-spent before departing.

I cancelled the card because (a) wasn't travelling due to COVID and didn't want to pay the annual fee, and (b) wanted to redo the deal again one day.

    • -1

No covid cover makes this complimentary travel insurance useless at the moment.

      • -1

borders are open for 4 months already.

        • They are open but what if you get COVID during the trip? Then you are stuck abroad AFAIK.

        • +3

Re-read my comment. Commonwealth complimentary travel insurance EXCLUDES covid.

Therefore, any commentary on this international travel insurance is basically void right now.

ANZ on the other hand have just changed their complimentary insurance to include covid.

          • @andyfc: Anz you have to spend $250 for travel insurance cover I believe.

  • 20% cash back. Not bad.

  • With CBA, would dropping down to the No Fee card (when you hit the $1000 min. spend per annum) mean you get another credit check?

    • Nope :)

      • Thanks!

  • Is this of other better than the Latitude 28 Global (ex GE money)?

  • better get me bank cc, no annual fee ever, interest 11.99% simple card

    • +10

If anyone ever pays attention to the interest rate, credit cards are NOT for them.

This is a churn and burn baby. As I said, 20% cash back on $1.5k spend, then close.

  • Nice deal

I’m probably eligible again after 12 months or so since I cancelled my last card

  • +3

There's also "CASHBACK $200" for low fee credit card if you get rejected on Low Fee Gold like me.

    https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/low-fee.html

    • I might have to go for this one as I only receive about $500 a week

    • I haven’t applied for a cc before but was going to go for this one. I’m worried I’ll get rejected though, do they mention the reason of rejection??

      • +2

I'm on a disability support pension and only receive $988 a fortnight so applied for the $200 cashback card with the minimum $500 credit limit and they approved it quickly

      • Reckon my income is not good enough for Gold CC. Got rejected right away while in process of filling the form online.

  • I'm not sure I understand what CBA get out of this?

Are they hoping enough people just stick with the card after they get their $300 that they make it all back on yearly fees and interest?

    $300 free money seems insane.

    • Well there’s usually plenty of other bank card offers which gets you $500+ worth of points
But this is the first time I’m seeing CBA offering cashback. Good one, I might apply as I’m a CBA customer

  • Is there a minimum annual salary amount?

  • "Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria and will appear on your statement as ‘CASHBACK $300’."

Anyone having previous experience with CBA know how long they take to apply the cashback? Sure they say within 90 days, but no-one wants to actually wait 90 days! Perhaps within the next statement period be more realistic?

  • +1

Is there minimum salary required to be approved for this?

  • can one simply transfer $10000 from their cba savings account onto their cba credit card account and then back triggering a cash advance thus hit with the $3 fee but no interest and avoid having to pay a $89 annual fee? has any one tried it?

    • I dont think its a good idea. Op says “$3.00 or 3.00% of the transaction amount – whichever is greater” 3% of $10,000 is 300$

    • -1

Short answer is yes, here are the T&Cs:

The annual fee is waived in the first year and every subsequent year if you spend at least $1,000 (Low Fee) or $10,000 (Low Fee Gold) in the previous year. Spend includes all purchases and cash advances fully processed in that year (excludes pending transaction) minus any refunds.

  • Do bills count as a purchase?

    • +1

Yes, other CCs specify local/state government bills are excluded e.g. transport/rego, ATO etc but this one doesn't seem to have any limitations I can find.

  • Offer available on new Low Fee Gold credit cards applied for between 01/03/2022 and 30/06/2022. Offer not available on all other card types (including Low Fee), existing cards, switches from other card types, and new Low Fee credit cards if you currently hold, or have held, any Low Fee card type in the 12 months prior.

    • That wasn't the case with me regarding being a Commbank Credit Card holder within the 12 months period. I cancelled my low rate Commbank Credit Card and 5 minutes later on the same day I posted this deal I applied for and got approved to my surprise.

      • The T&Cs are saying this specific cashback offer applies only to new Low Fee Gold cards. The cashback won't be awarded on any other new card types, if you already have an existing card, if you switch an existing card to Low Fee Gold, or if you currently hold any type of Low Fee card or have held one in the previous 12 months.

Outside of those clauses, it doesn't matter what other CommBank cards you have (or have had). Note that Low Fee and Low Rate are different products.

      • Probably what the splingee said below. But even if you got the same type of card, you could still be approved but not get the bonus offer I suppose, from the TnCs?

  • Has anyone asked by cba to visit a branch and provide certain documents?

  • still haven't heard back from commbank regarding my application after 2 weeks, sent income details via email on the same day I applied

  • I have a CBA savings account with debit MasterCard.
Do I qualify for this offer?

    • I’d like to know too.

  • +1

Crazy, I got denied… Maybe I've been churning too many cards lately. Wish they'd tell you why after the application is rejected. Can you call up and get a reason why?

    • What is your current credit score?

      • Score is excellent, 822.

        • +1

Ah, mine is similar but I applied and has been conditionally approved pending document submission. I have a similar credit score and have been churning a lot. I don't have any current open cards.

Perhaps worth calling Commbank to check and enquire why

  • +1

    Applied 15th, card received today.

    • How long did it take for your application to get approved unconditionally?

      • still awaiting for my application since 8th March, man these guys are slow af

      • It happened pretty quick I think, there was no real notifications of each step. I had an email on the 26th saying "we notice you have not activated your card yet"! So it must have been sent a few days before that?
I think the letter with the card said approved 22/03 or something like that.

  • Applied 11, received the card yesterday. Commbank have a weird process. NEver had account with them but a few days after i submit my application, I received an email and was asked to visit their branch but I ring them to confirm the reason why and was told that my recent application created another profile. The person I spoke with was able to fix the issue during the call and told i no longer need to visit the branch and the application will be processed from then on.

    • I just had a similar experience. Received text and email.

Called to ask what the issue was, lady on phone was confused because my card had been approved 15 minutes after I got the text message.

I was told it would take 10 to 15 business days to receive the card.

  • Applied but there is no way to upload pay slips?

    • +1

I received an email from them:
      How to upload your documents:
      - Go to the NetBank My home page and Offers & apply tab and select My applications.
      - Select your application and follow instructions for how you can get these documents to us (in most cases you will be able to upload them online).
      - OR Email your documents to [email protected] (you must include ONLY your application number as the subject. Your application number is 11 digits long and starts with the number '6')

      • +1

Select your application and follow instructions for how you can get these documents to us (in most cases you will be able to upload them online).

Checking application status in Netbank, I'm only see the message "Our team is now reviewing everything you've told us before making a decision on your credit card application. We'll be back in touch soon."

        • I didnt checked netbank when I submitted my application but I did email my payslips to creditcarddocs with application number on the email subject when I received their email.

          • @SabreTooth23: How long after you submitted the application to receive their email?

            • @timhn: It took more than a week. At first I thought I got declined Lol

          • @SabreTooth23: My partner just applied and get the email almost within few minutes later !!

But they are asking for :
            - 3 months bank statement
            - letter from employer
            - 2 payslips
            - notice of assessment

What the heck? I've never seen any one ask for "notice of assessment" for a CC application. Partner is a salary earner - not contractor or freelancing so income is fixed every month. And the a letter from employer, what for when we can submit 3 months of latest payslips.

            • @timhn: They only asked me 3 payslips. I totally agree with you, I have never been asked to submit a notice of assessment nor a letter from my employer. However many years ago I remember amex did ring the company I worked for to verify that I am indeed working there.

              • @SabreTooth23: i had to submit my noa for amex. Didnt mind it, the income was higher on that anyway, had business income too which i couldnt put on the application itself.

        • Yup my application has been in that status since 8th March

edit: just called them and after a 30min wait, was told it was supposed to go to a different team for verification and it didnt etc so the guy set it back into motion

  • Anyone else get this message when checking rewards on this card

"It looks like you're not part of our Awards program but it's not too late.

Get automatic access to the program with an Awards credit card."

How do we claim our rewards?

    • +1

I think Awards and Rewards are different.
All commbank cards get rewards, you can find it in the “For You” section on the bottom right of the app.

Awards is a different thing where you earn points and stuff, those are only for the black cc’s they have and usually have really high fees.

      • Thanks for the info. I am struggling to claim my rewards. I’m going to call in

  • I have two conflicting advises from CBA customer service in regards to the validity of the offer when you have Low Rate card. Originally I meant to apply low fee gold card, but somehow I got the low rate one. When I asked to close and if I can reapply low fee gold, one said I am eligible as I don't hold low fee card for the past 12 months. But another one said that I am ineligible as I had low rate gold card. The tnc also confusing. Anyone can confirm that they received cashback if they hold other cc type in the last 12 month please ?

    • The same happened to me. I applied from the link in this email, got a screen capture applying for the low fee gold card but got the CASHBACK $200 today and realised my card is low rate card not the gold one. My wife applied and the card is the low rate as well. Maybe when I selected $3000 credit limit they switched to the low rate (non gold one). Very frustrating, $200 total lost for us both…

  • What’s the trick to applying cc these days. Putting a low monthly expense and low portion of any debt on u and say the other party is responsible for the rest? Doesn’t seem to verify you other than your income statement.

    • You shouldn't exactly lie on your application. Debt can be verified by the bank when they check your credit history.

      • not exactly lying when debt are in joint name

  • Anyone know how long CommBank send out the card after approved? It has been a bit over a week since i got approval email but still no card. The app has a notification to tell me to activate my card - it wasn't there 2 days ago.

    • I got approved on Tuesday 5th of April, received the card on April 12th.

I'm guessing the Easter holidays will have a delay from auspost.

They did mention on the phone it moght take up to 10 business days to receive the card.

      • 7 days according what they have on their app. 10 days is for a country location.

I can consider the Easter break cause a bit of delay, but given that already received my card from the Virgin Money deal - applied for VM on same day had the approval msg from Commbank , make me wondering why CB is so slow.

  • Has anyone who applied for this deal received the cashback?

    • Yes

      • How long after you hit the spend did it take to get the cashback?

        • +1

2 days after I paid the balance.

          • @BigDadda: I will share my experiences with this card.

Received card 1 week after approval.
Hit minimum spend of 1500 after 1 week
-My spend was mainly suncorp car insurance and other groceries etc
Took 2 weeks to receive 300 cashback

My 1st statement issn't due until 10th of May

Happy overall, approval took unusually longer (took about 1 week for Commbank to process after I submitted documents online after applying).

            • @eastmeetswests: So with your first statement, is it $1500 less $300 cashback? Amount due would be $1200? Is that right?

  • does anyone know if i can use it to pay council fees?

It says in the T and Cs excludes cash advances and balance transfers but just double checking since other CCs have this exclusion

    • It may not be eligible.

I have read in the beemit ozbargain thread that people have been able to successfully use Commbank cards via BPAY and get points for paying this way

    • This won't help too much but I paid my water bill (state government owned) and it definitely counted with this offer where as with most others offers in the past it hasn't.

    • Ok I took a punt and paid for a local council fee and it counted towards the $3000!

  • Can I close the account once I have received the cashback or is it recommended to wait 90 days?

    • Yes close, no need to wait.

      • Ok thanks!

  • What's the best way to meet the spending requirement? I'm not very good at spending.
