Sony PS5 PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller $79 + $5.99 Delivery ($0 SYD C&C) + Surcharge @ Mwave

470

I’ve been looking for a decent wireless controller for Genshin Impact. This DualSense seems like a bargain.

Also could price-match and use discounted TCN gift card (current promotion in Woolworths) in JB HIFI makes the deal even better.

Ps. It was $70.35 this morning, they updated the price to $79 a while ago. 1%/2% surcharge applies for select payment methods.

  • Nothing beats a 360 controller, still my favourite by far.

I’m a fan of the Wii U Pro controller. Something about having the two analog sticks above the d-pad/ ABXY buttons feels right

    • +6

Nah, we use both heavily in our house, and the DS5 has much better:

      • Shoulder buttons
      • Stick accuracy
      • D-pad
      • Battery/charging convenience

… than the xbox 360 controller.

Plus the DS5 can do motion controls in Cemu for Breath of the Wild, has the touchpad, etc, etc.

The only advantage I'd give to the 360 controller is it's easier to set up and sync between different PCs/chromebooks (just plug in the receiver - the DS5 needs to sync via bluetooth, which can be sketchy on some PCs), and some PC games won't give you the PlayStation-style button prompts on screen, just the xbox-style ones, so you have to learn those.

But DS5 is quite a bit better, overall.

      DualSense is easily better.

      360 controller is a joke.

The Dualsense just beats out the 2nd gen Xbox One controller as my favourite controller. They're both excellent for different things, both super comfortable. The 2nd gen Xbox One controller, and all subsequent models, have a defective 'A' button design which results in missed inputs though.

      • super comfortable

For me the dual sense 5 is a medieval torture device. I can't use it. It's the position of the left analogue stick. I either have to wait for a 3rd party controller or sell the PS5.

How are you finding the waifu gacha?

Was hoping some of the new colours would be cheap as well but no such look - black is $95, red is $105, no sign of the blue, pink or purple.

  • Nice price! I got an 8bitdo pro 2 for PC, would love to try this but heard battery life is quite bad compared to other controllers.

    • It's horrendous. 5 hour gaming sesh is all it takes to drain the battery.

      • deliberate tactic to sell charging stations hmm

    • +1

stick with the pro 2, it will carry you far.

Xbox and now PlayStation continue to keep beefing up the controllers, making them heavier and larger in your hands. Good if you have big hands I guess.

  • Anyone else having issues with their right trigger? I actually rarely use my ps5 and I've just noticed how soft the right trigger is.

It's probably gotten 15 hours of use so far so this is pretty disappointing if it's already failing

    • +2

i believe the trigger tension is variable - controlled by the game

      • +3

Yeah this is when the controller is off, I'm fairly certain the spring is broken :')

        • you know i figured an actual owner would know as much but in my defence you did say you rarely use it - i was posting on the off chance that you just got your 2nd game haha

shame about the controller, maybe you can put in a warranty claim

if it wasn't a dodgy unit then surely it would be a fairly common failure by now

    • +4

probably just those right arm gainz you've built up on those lonely nights.

    • Yeah happened to mine. Something had snapped. It’s a known fault, I managed to get amazon to issue a refund but YMMV as I’ve heard people being forced to go through Sony.

    • You may have snapped the R2 spring, I had to replace that spring in both my controllers.

    • Bought PS5 controller bundle. The bundled controller L2 button already less springy and triggers randomly

    • Yeah, that's faulty. Had that same issue and some left stick drift and had it exchanged. My issues took about 10 months to develop though

  • Is this controller the best to use for PC or should I keep an eye out for a 360 controller?

    • +3

Stick with xbox controller for PC. A lot of PC games are not compatible with ps controller and even if the game recongnizes that, it will think its as an xbox controller…i.e: game tutorial will show you xbox buttons.

Also i think the Adaptive trigger doesnt work on PC (or maybe it does with an extremely limited number of games) so there's really no reason to buy it unless you have a PS5

Xbox controller is pretty much compatible with all games

      • +1

        try rewasd

      • Xbox controller is pretty much compatible with all games

So is any PS controller when using steam input

    • +3

Xbox controller will natively work with everything on pc. You can also get firmware updates for it through windows as well. Should you need to, you also have the ability to get the wireless receiver for lower latency or if your pc doesn't have bluetooth. If you have larger hands this is easily the better choice for you. They use AA batteries tho, which can be an upside or downside depending on your thoughts on them. My eneloops get me over 20 hours on a single charge. A lithium battery can be purchased for them but that's an added cost.

On the flip side, the ps5 controller does have more features, and better haptics. You'll be able to get pretty much all games working by adding them in steam and playing through there. There are other workarounds as well for the ps5 controller. You may not find a lot of games that truly take full advantage of the ps5 controller since not a lot of people use them (and hence developers don't bother with it) but with newer titles, ps5 game ports like the horizon sequel, and Sony's new focus on pc gaming you'd be covered for when that transition happens.

      Not the xbox 360 controller.

You want the xbox One or xbox Series controller. Best compatibility for PC.

But these days, Steam recognises the DS5 and tells the games it's an xinput controller (and many games recognise it natively, too, with PS-style button prompts and everything). Either way, compatibility is effectively the same.

So if you like the feel of the DS5, or need it's motion controls or touchpad (great for Switch and Wii U emulators), etc, there's no big reason to choose Xbox controller over DS5 for PC gaming.

If you already have a current or last-gen console, just use those, so when guests come over you can all play at once.

  • I've already returned my controller under warranty, and I opened my new controller that I bought last year from Amazon and it already had drift stick from the get-go

So now, I'm going to return this one within the warranty period

It sucks, but it looks like every 6-9 months you going to be returning controllers

    • These controllers are consumables

  • Where can I buy the PS5 for this to control….?

  • Any good deals for LED customisations? Thanks.

  • will this work for ps4?

    • No. You can use ps4 controller on ps5 for some games, but not other way around.

    I have two Dual Sense controllers, but I don't have a PS5

    • Two dual sense but no common sense :/

    • PS5 via osmosis

  • says $95 for me

  • -1

    Ethical grey area here.

If you want free replacement controllers just buy a pre owned one from EB games then swap it with your broken one and return your broken one with receipt to another store.

  • I recommend this controller if you have other devices to use it on (switch, android, mac, windows). It also supports macros and remapping and comes with a replacable battery.
