I get that these are "business grade" and all that…but these are starting to get very long in the tooth.

For refurbs, it's also helpful (important?) to state what battery checks you do.

Nbc review for those interested :

    • Long in the tooth? The model isn't even 3 years old.

We have a couple of 7400s and 7410s (same device, just with a 10th gen CPU) at work. They've both been pretty good, I've got the 7410 on my desk right now.

And if you actually read the web page it's got a 12 month warranty on the battery

Oh wait yeah, I was looking at the 8860, which is from 2017. Damn they dragged out 8th gen.

Either way for a refurb I'd like to see a battery test. For a laptop that's 2.5 years old, it's a solid 50/50 chance the battery is nearly dead.

Hi there, we do battery test on all our products and as well we provide 1-Year Limited Battery Warranty as well just in case if 'something' does happen :)

        • 2.5 years is hardly a 50/50 chance of “nearly dead”.

A lot of these sorts of corporate machines would be lucky to have 150 cycles on them.

@Mitch889: The downside is a lot probably live plugged into their docks, which (arguably) isn't necessarily healthy long term, but that's what warranties are for

  • This is exactly in the price range ($700-$800) that I'm looking to spend on a laptop. Obviously, I can't have too-high-expectations with this budget.

Can someone reassure me that I'm not making a terrible mistake buying one of these at this price (512GB SSD would be preferable.)

You could buy this and replace the 256GB SSD with a 512GB one. And while your at it possibly add 8GB RAM.

I bought a Refurb from Dell outlet many years ago. Couple keys broke (had to tape them back on bc i cant be stuffed with warranties), and battery definitely didn't last as long as a new one would have…but it did what it had to and the price compared to new definitely made it worth it.

I wouldn't since they are getting quite old for this price.
However, I have an older Latitude as well for comparison and the build quality is good, but I don't feel it's good enough to overlook the old spec. Paid $300 for the latitude a couple of years ago.
I bought another new Lenovo recently for my other offspring's uni use through ebay for just over $700 with a higher res, higher nittage and better colour range screen, but no touch. (which I reckon she'll never use anyway)
It has a 11th gen i5 CPU, although came with 8 GB RAM non upgradable, 3200MHz speed as well as a 512 GB storage. Really don't think the RAM will be a problem. and it's really light with a good and new battery life.
This deal here costs a lot to upgrade the RAM - something you surely could do yourself for much less cost.
Battery is also unknown here - my preused Latitude had its battery replaced uner warranty since its capacity had degraded too far to be acceptable.
Check what the warranty covers for battery - it may only cover it is falls to below a certain % capacity (for example).

      • Thanks. Yeah, I'm not loving the idea of a refurb for the reasons mentioned by yourself and Cdchi.

  • Does this support win11

    • +3

Seeing as it comes with Windows 11, I would imagine the answer is yes.

  • Kids' school issued these - they're a tough nut, good battery life as well. Our youngest has not been kind to his, and it still wakes up every day.

If I was in the market for a laptop right now, this with an extra 8Gb stick of RAM seems a good buy.

USB-C PD compatible as well, even though they come with the bullet power connector.

  • Bought one. No problems ordering. They shipped it the next day. The packaging was fine and looked like original laptop packaging. The laptop is is great condition and booted into the Windows 11 wizard. Great purchase.

    • What's the battery life like?

      • +1

Hi, about two hours in balanced mode without conservation modes on and about four hours with battery saver mode on.
