This feels like JB port in bonus all over again, give more incentives to new customers than existings…

  • I've previously bought the Coles Gift Cards from shopback when they had $2 cashback with $20 gift card spend (Bought 2 x $10). Everything tracked fine, but when I try to use both gift card in store, first one will always work, but second one will say "invalid gift card". When I go to check balance, everything checks out fine, and the balance is there.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue? I have a few individual $10 Coles gift card and I want to use them in the same transaction.

    • first one will always work

Sounds like you’re trying to redeem it more than once here…

      • Definitely not trying to redeem the same card multiple times. For example, I use GC#1, and then proceed to GC#2, this will fail. Same with GC#3 and GC#4. I know they are not the same card as it displays different pin to enter.

    • +1

Hey mate, would you be able to send our Customer Service team an email outlining this issue?
They'll flag this with our Gift Card team to check for you :)

    • I had this issue once when I hadn't taken note of the remaining balance on my first gift card, and just swiped it - when the self-checkout machine said I had insufficient funds and only had $x.xx remaining and I proceeded from that screen, it didn't want to accept any other gift cards. Staff couldn't do anything since I'd already paid for part of my items, so I just had to pay by cc and leave.

I think the error message said something like "gift cards not eligible to use for this purchase" - maybe because it thought I was "purchasing" the negative amount paid from my first GC? The items I actually bought were only food items so there shouldn't have been any restrictions.

I've never had an issue when I've selected Split Payment and entered the exact amount remaining on my first GC before paying the rest on another GC.

      • There was a bug in Coles’ POS system last year where if you paid for part of the transaction with a Coles Groceries & Returns gift card and then attempted a second payment using another gift card (e.g. Coles gift card, Coles Groceries & Returns gift card, Coles Group & Myer gift card), the system would occasionally produce that error message, even if the items you were purchasing were just groceries.

One time last year, I was purchasing one item from the meat department that cost around $18. I redeemed $11 on a Coles Groceries & Returns gift card, but when I tried to redeem $7 from a different Coles gift card, I got the error. However, I found that if I did split payments multiple times using that same Coles gift card (e.g. $2, then $2, then $1, then 50c, etc), I could get the amount owed down to 7c or something ridiculous, then I was able pay the remaining amount using cash (because rounding).

I think the bug has been squished, as I have not come across the error in the last few months.

        • Huh, that's weird. Both of mine were Coles gift cards from Swap, and it was only about two weeks ago that it happened.
Now that you mention it though, my first gift card seemed to scan as a Groceries & Returns gc (it showed up as GRC RTNS or another similar abbreviation in the right hand side of the screen) despite it being a regular gc, maybe that was why the error happened? What's the difference between Groceries & Returns and other GCs?

          • +4

@kicha: There are two very important differences:

            • Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards start with 6273 4000 or 6273 4005, whereas “regular” Coles gift cards start with 6273 4010 or 6273 4012.1

            • Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards, mobile SIM card packs, tobacco or alcohol. If you attempt to do that when you scan or swipe a Coles Groceries & Returns gift card, you’ll get an Invalid Product Mix error on the EFTPOS terminal. However, Coles gift cards can be used to purchase third-party gift cards (if you can find a staff member that allows you to do this), mobile SIM card packs (if you can find a staff member that allows you to do this) or tobacco. You cannot buy alcohol using Coles gift cards, since Coles supermarkets do not sell alcohol in their physical stores anymore.

Next time you encounter this error, have a look at what flashes up on the EFTPOS terminal for about half a second after you scan or swipe a gift card. I think it should say Invalid Product Mix or something along those lines…

Hold on a minute, are the Swap gift cards you’re talking about actually just Prezzee gift cards minus some Woolworths Group gift cards? If so, Prezzee accidentally uploaded Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards instead of Coles gift cards when they were restocking their Coles gift cards recently, so that may explain how you ended up with Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards without realising it.

            1. There are actually at least five different types of gift cards issued by Coles Group that you redeem at Coles.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Great info, thanks - unfortunately I don't have that specific card info with me anymore since I deleted it from both Stocard and Prezzee after it was spent, but yes it was from a Prezzee card (Shopback's Super Smart one I believe) so I'd assume I was hit with one of the Groceries & Returns gcs. The "invalid product mix" error definitely jogs my memory.

Appreciate the clarification, it's good to know it probably won't happen again since I unintentionally involved several Coles staff who were all equally confused haha.

              • +2

@kicha: Yeah, it’s happened to me three times now, and each time, staff have no idea what on earth is going on. To be fair, you rarely see someone use a Coles Groceries & Returns gift card as a payment method at Coles (or gift cards in general, for that matter), plus this error will not always be triggered in a transaction, so staff would rarely encounter this issue.

One time, the store manager was called over and I demonstrated the problem to them. They were like “look, it’s an error on our part and it’s completely ridiculous… excuse me whilst I go get some cash from the service desk”, and then they came back and put 20c in the self-service machine to pay the remaining amount owed lol.

                • +1

@WookieMonster: The staff in my case were doing their best too, the manager came over and could only offer a suggestion to call Coles HQ about the gift card (he assumed it was an issue with my second card) but I decided just to get out of their hair and pay with my credit card. Nice of them to give you 20c haha, I definitely don't blame the staff for having to deal with what seems like such a convoluted system

      • The way to get around is to not proceed after balance detection, go back and split pay as normal. You still do not need to record the remaining balance.

        • Yeah, I've learnt my lesson - I thought it'd be fine since I'm usually pretty diligent at keeping track of the balance, but just in case that messes things up even with a non-Groceries/Returns gc I'll avoid it

  • So at the moment ebay has $10 off if you spend $100 but you won't get the $5 shopback bonus? Not seeing the point of the $5 if ebay is giving you a $10 discount

    • Seems like it's only a deal right now if you can pair it with the new user offer… But..

"we've got a few things in store for you this month to stack with the bonus." - more to come I guess?

    • +4

Hey @Gordon84, if you're referring to a promo code then this note would apply:

The use of any Promo Code not listed on our eBay Merchant Page will cause your Cashback to be invalidated, but the Bonus will be eligible.

      • Thanks for the reply. Thats a good stackable bonus then!

      • "Bonus will be eligible", will it apply on best offer as well? even the transaction later would show "rejected"?

        • Items with Best Offer accepted prices and Auctions are NOT eligible for cashback.

    • double check as there seems to be increased cash back up to 10% on shopback. Might be a better deal.

      • Home & garden only.

Geez ShopBack… You guys are killing it at the moment. Please slow down, and allow CR to catch up, maybe? :-P

So you have to install the shopback app to activate this? Not possible from the desktop?

Do you also have to shop through the app?

    • +2

Should be able to activate these challenges in the earn more tabs on the desktop version.

      • I can see the offer there, and clicking on it opens up the terms and conditions.

But there's no button or link to start or activate the offer. There's a 'shop now' link, but that just seems to redirect to the ebay australia page on shopback, with no indication that the offer has been activated.

Hmmm, just noticed that all the other offers have a start link next to them, while in the same place this one just shows $100.00. Does that mean it's been activated?

I guess I was expecting a big 'Start Now' or 'Activate Offer' button, and a confirmation that the offer has been activated afterwards.

      • This would be great, love to do it all on the desktop. However, the instructions state you have to go to the App. Perhaps the OP can clarify.

    • +1

Uvbunny - you can shop on the desktop.

  • Is the spend inclusive of delivery fee & overseas good’s gst?

  • Sorry, new to this, so I have just signed up and if I were to buy this:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324010193739?hash=item4b7083334b…
would I be able to get the $20 off and the 12% off on the item?

    • Absolutely, just be sure to click through our App/Website before purchasing.

      Cheers!

      • Alright thank you!

        • Sorry - I forgot to mention that you must click 'Start' on this $20 Challenge prior to purchasing (if you haven't already).

          • @gotyourback: gotyourback, could you kindly comment on my queries above about whether this offer can be activated/used from the desktop?

            Thanks

            • @uvbunny: Hey, sorry I saw Yola had already answered & thought to leave it.
You can activate the challenge on desktop, our post link takes you to either the Mobile Page or the Web Page depending on where you click from.

Once you've opted-in to the challenge, you can shop on any device and it'll count towards the Challenge (unless explicitly stated otherwise).

              Cheers!

              • @gotyourback: Happy to hear this. Will we also be able to purchase GCs on the desktop as well? I hope so.

                • @Yola: GCs are still app-only at this time, but it's on our tech to-do list.
No ETA for this at the moment.

                  Cheers!

                  • @gotyourback: Hi GYB,
Is it supposed to appear as 4% cashback when clicking on the $20 cashback order challenge? I just want to make sure I am getting the right cashback.

      • Would the cashback valid for "best offer" purchase?

  • +1

Need a lower minimum spend please SB :) around $10-$30 next time please.

  • +2

Existing Customer Bonus still available? Can not find the challenge.

    • yea OP - is it still available for existing customers?

    • Ditto.

      • 3000 slots filled, so it's over unfortunately.

  • @gotyourback is it possible to make multiple separate orders to meet the target amount or does it have to be $100 in one go?

    • +1

@wekimekigugudan you can make multiple purchases to meet the $100 spend requirement :)

  • @Gotyourback, quick confirmation for the new customers of Shopback, is it after creating a new SB account their first transaction should be an ebay purchase….i mean if new SB account has already bought something first and started this challenge…are they not eligible

    • +1

Once you've opted-in, you'll be 100% fine to make this transaction regardless of it being your first or not :)
