My phone (Galaxy S20 FE 5G) is currently showing it's on 5G, and I'm on Boost, yet my google-fu skills aren't finding anything about them getting 5G access
Anyone else in the same boat?
Speed test is 110/2 currently 137/7
Just got 135/15
That was only in the US HSDPA was labelled as 4G (LTE is 4G)
@OP can you go into settings and take screenshots of the About Phone / network status screens? Not sure what the page is called on Samsung, sorry
I can't see anything of relevance around there
On my phone, I can search "status" in the settings app. One of the results are SIM status, which I can then tap the one saying BOOST. My phone and Android version is different to yours, so it might be called something different
@DiscountForThee: Yeah comes up with Boost but can't click it. Can't click anything in the sim status screen
Could be a slow rollout?
Only 4g on my Galaxy S20 FE 5G - 78Mbps.
Boost Mobile Now on 5G?
Where is the upvote button?
J.V. I upvote some of you comments and jokes, but this would have to be be one of your most straight to the point,
sensible and even witty comments yet lol.
Is it local stock or a grey import phone? If grey its probably running dodgy firmware from the USA where they renamed LTE to 5G for marketing reasons
Local stock, had it for a year
Pretty sure the S20 FE is new enough to not have such dodgy firmware.
It was 2019 era phones that were being loaded with fake 5G indicators by AT&T.
Would love to hear the outcome of this. I am on Boost too, and whatever phone I upgrade to will almost certainly have 5G so I'd love to be able to use it
Just ran mine - Poco 3 and it says 4g+ and im getting over 200/20. its normally around 100. Home NBN is woeful at less than 20 - bad line apparently nothing they can do. If only i could use the speed of the mobile with unlimited data download.
Doesn't seem any faster than my 4G phone on Boost.. which is still superfast and faster than my home internet.
Am I one of the few who couldn't give a shit about 5G phones currently?
If anything today my 4gLTE connection with Boost has been pretty average…
YMMV
My iPhone is 5g as of today on boost.
Rang them and they advised boost has gained access to Telstra’s 5G network as of today.
Ah yep, reports on whirlpool reflecting it as well
Live support doesn't seem to know that they have gained access if that is the case
https://postimg.cc/NLYd8PyQ
It's typical of most companies these days isn't it?
They roll out something or go public with it and tell their staff after the fact or let them find out themselves.
Yeah that's what I suspect is going on
edit been onto three different agents on live support and they all said 5G isn't enabled as of yet
I noticed this yesterday for a bit. Did a speed test but only got 40mb/s so no quicker than 4g.
Awesome news - now they just need to offer e-sims for their customers.
Just tested on mobile phone at home and got 125 Mbps download, which is faster than my crappy NBN FTTN connection which can only manage 60 Mbps. This will keep me happy until FTTP is available here.
Any impact on battery life?
5G does impact battery life but if you leave your phone on 5g auto it should minimize the effect on battery
just ran a speed test here to… North Gold Coast.
been consistent for the past few months around the same speed on 4g Boost.

Noticed 5G today. Crazy fast with 479Mbps down, 41 up in Melbourne.
lol. trust me to find your voice in here :)
Also has 5G on my iphone 12 pro max , did a speed test, got 203/12.
New iPhone 13, 7km from central Melbourne getting 3g at < 1Mbps today. Used to get 4g - 50Mbps down, 1 Up, but not today. Coverage map says I should get 5g indoors.
So no, no 5g Boost here, I'd be happy if I could just get 4g!! (And yes, I've reset and rebooted everything). At least it's better than when I had Optus - could only get 2g, until they switched it off, now nothing - black spot they said, no plans to rectify it.
Wow. Just noticed 5G after my wifi dropped off. Nice nice. Tested in southern Sydney 320/15
Try shopping centers for speedtest, 5G max speed. Data quota burn.
Are you sure it’s 5G? 135/15 Seems extremely slow for 5G. Unless you’re being capped. My typical 5G speed on my phone is 1000 - 1200 Mbps down and around 100 Mbps up. This is on Telstra in the inner city eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Was in a building at the time. Closer to the cbd today and it hit 500+
Fantastic
Not getting 5G on my Boost yet but on 4G can get average 70mbps and on 4G+ up to 350mbps which is similar speed my friends getting on his 5G Telstra.
Tested 705mb download in frenchs forest NSW yesterday on moto g 5g Plus
After a harrowing port in over the last 2 weeks, I was hopeful there was 5G but nope. Ported from Vodafone (5G). In inner west Sydney.
After a harrowing port in over the last 2 weeks
No pain, no gain…
I was getting 5G with Boost, but as soon as I migrated over to their new billing system I no longer have it.
I think I stopped getting it before I migrated
Maybe it was a test of the system?
That's what I was told via their online support when I questioned it. Not sure if it's true or not.
I hope it comes back soon. I started using my mobile to upload stuff in a fraction of the time compared to when I was on 4G or when using our crappy FTTN internet connection.
Thankfully FTTP is only a few months away for us.
I've just noticed 5G coverage showing up on my phone again. Anyone else have the same?
Boost website has been updated, only the $70 per month plan has access to the 5G network.
Sone info here about Boost mobiles 5G offerings - https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/News/Boost-first-…
5G now on all plans!
amazing speeds, https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/5137660535
'til Sept apparently
Boost mobile now has 5G. Consistent results with the Telstra 5G network with very similar speeds as it uses the retailer network.
From the text they sent today, all their prepaid plans have 5G now at no extra cost.
Doing a lot better than Telstra which only offers it on their higher tier plans for both prepaid and postpaid
already covered here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704120

Is this confirmed? Last I read, they were only testing it for up to September, is it in there now? (I want to change mine next week!)

I initially had it on their lower tier pre-paid plans, and they specifically moved us out of the plan onto one that doesn't have it anymore. Was such an annoying move. FWIW founder of Boost said this:
“Telstra have this concept – which I don’t agreed with – that 5G demands a premium, and I just totally disagree with that”
“I’m not even going to market that plan, because it’s not worth it.” He says “it’s not a value add for me, I don;t think 5G demands a premium over 4G” ^.

From the thread on Whirlpool, seems like it's only for everyone until 26 Sept (They may restrict it to $70+ plans after that date?)
Funny last week speed test
4G 168 down:6 :up
Today
4G 102 down: 4up
5G 220 down: 6 up
Nice. Performance on 4G has been a slippery slope recently.
5G is really an advantage to carriers rather than end users… so it's good they aren't charging extra for it.
I haven’t received a text and I don’t see any indication of 5G working on my phone.
I still haven’t received a text, however it turns out 5G does work for me, just not in my apartment or in the area that I have my lunch at work…
Anyone have any info on when Boost is introducing international roaming again as well?
https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/using-your-phone-over… mentions mid 2022, and support is pretty mum about it.
Got mine via SMS notification today at 3pm.
Did a speedtest on it also whilst I was standing outside a Telstra dealer at my local stores, by coincidence.
I'm on Telstra prepaid btw,
Very impressed. Got the sms just after 3pm today. Just ran a speed test. 1161/95.8. Cannot complain!
Could be misnamed 4GX? Similar to how LTE was misleadingly denoted as 4G on devices years ago.
